HOMEBIRTH! HOMEBIRTH!HOMEBIRTH!

Do you think there will come a day when the majority of women will stop
putting up with medical professionals bullshit and start trusting
themselves?
I cringe when I hear some of the things that are said to women.
Aren't bodily fluids a big part of labour? Isn't it about serving women not
keeping yourself clean? I can understand the risks of infection, disease etc
nowadaysso wear a eye shield, but don't stuff around with the natural
process.
I so believe that there is hardly ever a time, like probably 1%, when there
is a real need for intervention and not necessarily medical. Sometimes all
it takes is a change in position. I find it very unnerving that the
traditional, natural methods are not taught to most aspiring midwives. It is
scary, I don't know why women think they are so safe in hospitals???
(disclaimer: this comment is about hospitals and midwifery training in
general, I am sure there are some amazing midwives in hospitals that are
really with women and I am sure there are aspiring midwives that take it
on themselves to learn from the wise ways of women.)

Love Abby ~ who is a little shocked about some midwives opinions towards
unnatural interventions.

Abby,
AROM is a 'tool' of active management and like many other obstetric
interventions it has been used as a normal practice by o mnay. I am not
sure why it would be used as a Midwife tool but as I am not one (a midwife)
I ont want to make a blanket statement.
I agree that your list o things an AROM can cause as I did a great deal of
reading about it when trying to work out why I had my cs for my first. You
might like to add increase chance of fetal distress to your list next to
baby's head being in the wrong position. All in all it seems like once
again there are MANY reasons why not to do this to women but as far as I
can tell, ambivulent reasons why to use it.
But like you, I stand ready for correction as I said, I am not a midwife
and I am always open for further learning! lol
love Jo
PS LOVE being in Bendigo for my week stayhave been able to have brunch
with some great people and I have read TWO yes TWO books! This no
children, husband or house work thing has some rewards! Unfortunatley the
little one whom I am actually here for is snuggled up inside mum really
with no intentions of coming out to suit my schedule! I am sure she will
birthher baby when i am flying home! lol

Re: ARm was Re: [ozmidwifery] VE

2004-10-03 Thread Justine Caines
The midwife
said she could not guarantee this as she had a women last year whose waters
hadn't broken by second stage - the woman was on a birth stool and as she
pushed the waters broke with a huge gush and her face was splattered with
amniotic fluid, so if my clients waters hadn't broken by second stage she'd
want to break them.

Dear Jo and all

I suggest the midwife gets out of the business end of proceedings!

Before I had my children I went to a friends birth (was awful total cascade)
but the midwife wore splatter glasses! There was not a pair within cooee of
my births though.

My waters broke to a huge pop with number 1 (so much so I first thought it
was the baby, how much did I have to learn!!) and took out a husband, and a
bookcase, midwife was experienced enough to jump away!

Number 2 I had a huge 'shower' after babe (felt just like a shower) and
hubby (as he caught babe) and midwife got a gush of watery vernix that
required scratching off and hair washing - oh dear!!

Number 3 was uneventful

Number 4 I had a wacky (but lovely) midwife and doula extraordinaire rubbing
vernix in their crows feet on their face (sorry is this too much info?)

Unlike the other babes their was huge blobs of vernix (looked like it just
came from a tub of moisturiser!!) So instead of face lifts the wise women
thought they'd check out the wonders of vernix!! Babe still had
heaps.

Ah humour amongst the beauty, more reasons for homebirth I say!!

JC
