Re: [ozmidwifery] Synto & heart problems?

2006-06-10 Thread brendamanning

 Hi Kelly,

I think this lady is
referring to PAT (paroxysmal atrial tachycardia). Sometimes called atrial
flutternot nice but doesn't kill you. It will cause you to faint though
as the atrial 'flutter' isn't pumping the blood effectively up to your brain so
you feel light headed. The pump (ie the heart) is providing only a weak
surge of blood, ie it's fluttering instead of contracting strongly
& rhythmically.
Broken down this means:

  paroxysmal ie comes in
  episodes or paroxysms.
  atrial = affecting
  the atrium of the heart
  Tachycardia = fast heart
  rate
Cardiac arrhythmias are a
documented side-effect of Syntocinon.
She wasn't imagining it
!

  Hi
  Kelly

  Just wondering if you
would know the answer to this.  I know how busy you are, but thought
you'd be the best to ask.  No hurry with the
  answer...

I have been to the doctor
tonight because I am getting irregular heart beats that are causing me to
nearly faint.  I was put on an ecg and that recorded one (thank
goodness...didn't feel like a fake!) Dr rang a cardiologist who said that yes,
it is unusual for someone my age to get it (I can't remember the name,
something about the sinus node and electric currents) but there is nothing
they can do.  I just have to put up with it.  BTW it won't kill me
  LOL!

  So anyway my question
is...Do you know if Syntocinon can cause heart problems? When I was in labour
with Imogen I said to Daniel 'My heart is going to stop, I just don't think it
can take anymore' and I could feel my heart so intensely thumping and hurting
  - I'd never felt it with the other 2 labours.

  Thanks, I'd love to know
if you think this could be related.

[ozmidwifery] Anyone know?

2006-06-10 Thread Heartlogic

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a quote from a book and I'm hoping
someone may know it/the book/the author.

The quote goes something like that midwives stand
at the bedposts of life and death... such people are like rubies and that there
will be no machines which go ping for me etc

It was written by an Australian journalist, she
spoke at a midwifery conference in Sydney either late 80's or early 90's and her
book is titled something like Cats, cradles and (something...)

I'm having a senior moment and can't locate any of
it!!

If you can help me, please respond privately to
avoid clogging the list.

My email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks so much to anyone who can shed light on this
for me.

Have a great weekend everyone.

warmly, Carolyn

It's OK!  I went to Amazon and found the book
- one copy only in all USA!  for sale that is, second hand and all.

It's called Cats, Cradles and Chamomile Tea written
by Anna Maria Delloso.

Thanks to those of you who were seeking to
help.

I love having you all there as my cyber buddies!

warmly, Carolyn
