We are public school district and use Packetfence for a Guest/BYOD WiFi
network registration and access.
There are currently ~1350 registered devices, but the number of devices
that are accessing or trying to connect during normal school hours can be
in 3000 range.

Do you still want a tcpdump?

Re: [PacketFence-users] R: Fingerbank and softnet_stat issues with version 9.2

2020-01-16 Thread Serhiy Morhun via PacketFence-users
I can confirm as well. Fingerbank-collector upgrade resolved issue with
crashes but no help with hitting hourly API limits.
So my questions are:

1. Is there any way to reduce Upstream API calls? I thought only new
unrecognized devices on the network should cause an API call to the cloud.
Also, I thought a local copy of "fingerbank_Upstream.db" would
significantly drop the number of calls but it does not seem to be the case.

- would changing "Query cache time in the collector" (currently 1440),
"Database persistence interval" (currently 600) or the duration of DHCP
lease (currently 30) values help? And if it helps what are the recommended
values?

2. If Packetfence software is now generating many more API calls shouldn't
hourly API limits be increased?

Once the limit is hit and upstream is not reachable anymore packetfence.log
fills up with these

2020-01-13 Thread Hubert Kupper via PacketFence-users

Hello Giacinto,

I did your trick but for us it doesn't work. Shortly after saving the
API KEY again, the email with 300 lookups per hour arrived.

Best regards,
Hubert

I don't know if a pf or fingerbank bug ..

I have tried this and it is working so far :

1. from FingerBank - General settings Menu  :  cancel the API KEY
(copy the string somewhere) and save

2. wait some time, take the next hour .. .

3. reinsert the API key and save

problem missing

classic solution .. I don't know why, but it worked for me

Ciao

*Oggetto:* [PacketFence-users] Fingerbank and softnet_stat issues with
version 9.2

Hello everyone,

We upgraded from 9.0.1 to 9.2 over the Christmas holiday and are
experiencing a strange issue that was not present before. I am
wondering if we have something misconfigured or it could be a bug?

The symptoms are that we constantly receive the Fingerbank alert email
that we have exceeded our 300 lookups per hour. We have received this
email every hour since we upgraded. Also, our softnet_stat events have
gone up to around 500 per 10 minutes. This is affecting the
performance of the server. I have looked at the softnet_stat issue in
the past with version 7.4, and have mitigated it by increased the
net.core.netdev_budget to 4800. After the upgrade to version 9.2, we
immediately started experiencing the Fingerbank emails as well as the
increase in softnet_stat.

Anyone know what may have changed with 9.2 to cause this? Our
apache_filters.conf file is all commented. But I am not sure what, if
anything we need to filter for the captive portal. We hadn’t needed to
in the past, and the logs don’t show anything out of the ordinary.

Regards,
