VLC is linked from OBS, so any fix/update must originate from there.
I suggest you file a bug report on https://bugzilla.opensuse.org.

That's because rpm is confused about inherited dependencies.
Just break it or wait for the packager to fix it, but this might be a long one.

The packager is working on it, just force install yt-dlp along with
python311-yt-dlp

In the respective source lines, e.g. Source:
https://somehost.com/path/foo-1.2.3.tar.gz
Or, if necessary, use a _service file like obs-studio itself does.

You're right, I forgot the main package is also in Multimedia. I CC'd its
maintainer.

Factory and 15.4 indeed build, 15.3 is missing the ldconfig scriptlet, perhaps
it should be added to the Multimedia project config, but I don't know how.

You're right. It's not being published because the build fails on 15.4. The
recent sr addressed that.
I re-submitted the changes to the originating project, hopefully this will be

It's my fault.
I accepted the seemingly reasonable sr#5599 without noticing the package was
linked
from Factory. I suppose the .diff that was created interferes with the

We can link whatever is required and build it in Multimedia if you think it
proper.

yt-dlp is linked from OBS. I sent an update that forces python 3.9 on Leap, once
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/994385 will be accepted into Factory,
the packman package will also be rebuilt and work. It's a matter of patience.

  Hello fellow packmen,
can you foresee anything bad by preferring ffmpeg-4 libraries for Leap 15.4 in
the Essentials
project config? Its immediate dependencies don't seem to break, at least
build-wise.

It's the only way I could think of to fix the package above or is there
anything more specific?

The only issue is can see with that is the delay from release to acceptance
into Factory.

I'm not sure it's worth it, since the main developer has seemingly abandoned
the project
(see
https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/commit/21b759057502c6e70d51011cfb3fb86d84055182).

Perhaps we could add a shim to use the original switches by default, like they
do on AUR.

[packman] youtube-dl replacement

2021-12-19 Diskussionsfäden Luigi Baldoni
  Hello,
as you may have noticed, the youtube-dl package on OBS has switched to the
yt-dlp source, since development on the original branch has been slow for some
time now.
Do you think it would make sense to do the same for Multimedia/youtube-dl?

It's, well, a staging area to test some critical packages before they are

All we need is the one in openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP3:Update, for some reason
openSUSE:Leap:15.3:Update does not inherit from it.

I'd link it myself, but I don't know how not to mess up thing in Staging.
Could someone please do it?

  Hello,
I had a look at it, but chromium comes with an enormous tarball and an ocean of
patches.

In my opinion, fixing it would be an unpleasant undertaking and AFAIK even the
openSUSE chromium
maintainer is tired of it, so you're going to need a very motivated volunteer.

Ideally one should modify the package in games:tools adding the relevant build

[packman] New update model in Leap 15.3 and package version mismatch

2021-06-05 Diskussionsfäden Luigi Baldoni
   Hello,
I recently upgraded to Leap 15.3 and today I noticed libgstphotography being
held back during an update.

From what I can tell, the problem is that Essentials/gstreamer-plugins-bad
links to openSUSE.org:openSUSE:Leap:15.3:Update
but its updates are now coming from repo-sle-update.

So, my first reaction would be to link gstreamer-plugins-bad and
gstreamer-plugins-ugly to SUSE:SLE-15-SP3:Update, but
that would leave gstreamer-plugins-libav out since it hasn't received an update
yet.

What is to be done about this?

An additional trouble is that packman.repo on every working mirror points at
packman.inode.at.

Now, I don't know how feasible it would be to have each mirror with its own
custom .repo file,
but at least it shouldn't point at a dead one.

reinstalling one, e.g:

Problem: nothing provides libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.29)(64bit) needed by
libx264-161-0.161+git20200912.d198931a-2.4.x86_64
Solution 1: do not install libx264-161-0.161+git20200912.d198931a-2.4.x86_64
 Solution 2: break libx264-161-0.161+git20200912.d198931a-2.4.x86_64 by
ignoring some of its dependencies

My guess is that it had no user. crystalhd-libs in Factory doesn't.

I think we're past having it included (beta deadline was two weeks ago or so).
Anyway there's an update available if you dig deep enough.

Trouble is, all other mirrors have .repo files pointing at packman.inode.at.
If the latter is out of commission, perhaps another mirror should become the
primary one?

Oh, I see.
Would you do the same in network:utilities then?

Still, if the package were to be (as for many other) linked and not aggregated,
what would be the advantage?

I never claimed that, only that, as far as I understand, it's run on PMBS
without manual intervention which would not be possible on OBS.

Paging Olaf for further details.

I don't get the broken -> delete implication. It usuall is broken ergo repair
it.

And regarding the weight on the meager resources of PMBS, it's certainly not
the heaviest package.

The packman version has a cron job that offers the latest version available
within minutes, I believe.
Whereas on openSUSE one has to wait for a manual update, submission to Factory
and code review.

Since it's updated even multiple times a day, at times, I think the packman way
offers a better service
to the final user.

Handling half a TB of tarball for every update is unworkable, which is probably
why
it hasn't received an update in more than two years.

Of course. You just need to fix CVE-2019-18359, PoC available on the bug

Hello,
I'm responsible for the last few updates to multimedia:apps/projectM and I can
tell you
that using its libraries from third-party applications has become nearly
impossible.
The API has changed and one of them is not even being created anymore, plus
some symbols
are no longer exported and upstream appears to be interested solely in the
stand-alone
projectM.

So, unless someone with more C++-fu than me comes to the rescue, I'm afraid any
problem
is going to stay there for the foreseeable future.

The package is actually maintained on OBS and it has just been updated.

Two things though:
- are you going to integrate the Qt5 patch?
- would it be possible to have a RSS or Atom feed on the project webpage

I searched for dvbcut on packman but I couldn't locate it.
So I packaged version 0.7.2 and submitted it to multimedia:apps. $GOD willing,
it should reach Factory in a few weeks and then it can be linked to PMBS.

Unless you manage to do away with the faad requirement, you'll have to move

This is the part I understand the least.
What would be the legal ramifications or even just the risks in
attributing copyright to a third party? Or is mentioning a trademark that
concerns you?

Furthermore, you wouldn't even have to use the "Copyright SUSE GmbH" line.
Several other packagers just put in their name, current year and everyone
who adds something to it would add his own.

Also, I understand the principle of wanting one's work to be recognised,
but is it worth the trouble for something that can be trivially reimplemented
and it's MIT licensed so anyone could reuse it in the first place?

If that's the thing, then it can stay on OBS, can't it?

But if Walter really wants to maintain full control he could
build everything in his home project, and then set up some personal
website to point at it.

Or, even better, set up his own OBS server, self-sign and mirror
rpms somewhere.

(clearly the latter would be more work)

Before slandering anyone, now I see that packages in home:dl8fcl:hamradio
have the following header:

#
# spec file for package foo
#
# Copyright (c) 2017 Walter Fey DL8FCL
#

Is this the reeason why OBS doesn't want it? Would packman?

I didn't say anything of the sort and I'm sorry if I gave that impression.

In my understanding (and I could be wrong), Walter Fey opposes copyright
headers for spec files even
when he's the original author.

Hence my perplexity.

Now, I don't know if you know more about whatever happened on OBS or if the
specfile skeleton itself is subject
to copyright, but it would be useful to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

No. I was talking about the copyring attribution for the spec file itself, with
which I seem to recall
from a previous interaction OP has a problem with.

Now, I assume that a commercial entity like SUSE can't afford to distribute
anything where the IP is not
clearly defined, even for a mere script.

Would Packman be more lenient in that regard?

I thought packman was, for the most part, reserved to packages that (chiefly
for legal reasons) couldn't be hosted on OBS. May we ask what's wrong
with the hamradio project?

First of all, get-flash-videos is in the official repository, not packman,

Flash video downloading is not an exact science, so it can break without advance
notice.
If upgrading to the latest version doesn't help, I suggest you file a bug report
upstream, possibly with the URL.

[packman] youtube-dl request

2017-07-12 Diskussionsfäden Luigi Baldoni
   Hi,
sr#3810 has been in the queue for two months now: is there anything wrong with
it?

I packaged the python module too to match the Factory youtube-dl
(kawaii-player requires it).

I had the same concerns in the past. Apparently the idea is to use whatever
is in 42.2:Update. Unless there are bugs or security holes to fix.

I think it could be updated now, but one should find a good reason for the mr.
I also think the mpv in Essentials built for 42.2 ought to be wiped clean
so to avoid this confusion.

By the by, I took the liberty of submitting it to X11:Utilities, which seems
more appropriate.
