Re: Question About burning dVDs

2004-07-04 Thread Gary Wood
Hi Brad. I suppose it would depend on whether your DVD player plays MP3's.
My other DVD player didn't. That's why I bought one that did; but this one
doesn't play WMA files; so I may have to consider purchasing one that does;
and also, this DVD player doesn't play MP3's that are produced at a low bit
rate.

Subject: Question About burning dVDs

Hi,
I successfully burned a disk full of mp3's, but I can't get the disk
to play in my regular DVD/VCR combo. How can one create a dvd full of
mp3s and have it play like an mp3-cd will play in those machines which
support mp3? Thanks,
Brad Trainham

Where to find a DecTalk-like speaker?

2004-07-04 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I've got Jaws running through the onboard sound card, and all other
audio coming through the SB Live, and wonder if anyone can point me toward a
speaker that was like the DecTalk one? It's just one little speaker with a
volume control. That's all I need.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Bookmarking a stream in media player

2004-07-04 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Hamish, does this work for media player 9 or what? I liked the way
media player 7.0, and 7.1 worked, where it had an explorer interface,
and you just saved your station, and even typed the station, now, with
media player 9, there's something about add playlist, and what it does
is it automatically adds a .wpl extencion, something I don't care for,
because if another person happens to use the older media players, that
may not support this, and if they do, people may be thrown by this.

As the subject line says how do I bookmark a stream that is currently
playing in windows media player so that I can access it later without
going through the internet each time.

Re: checking timing of a track

2004-07-04 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Steve, if you had winamp playing all the file types, even those
from real player, you could use control j to jump to a specific point
in a track, and also use your mouse keys to check the length of a
track.

I know that Winamp will allow you to check the length of a track. Does
either Real or Windows Media have such options? Also, can you jump to a

Re: questions concerning GoldWave and files

2004-07-04 Thread shawn klein
Hi Terri. I think the default setting for fft size was
6, so if you left it there, I can see why you had
problems. Yes, sometimes I forget to select the entire
file again, I just do control z and try again. If you
can't find silence in a particular sound, perhapse you
can find it in a similar recording. Same radio, same
radio station, similar level of noise on the fm
signal. I told you I make recordings of what's going
on outside, well now it's summer and there's a
constant background of crickets day or night. I don't
want to mess that up, but I have a small 5 kb slice of
a recording I made in May that has nothing going on,
and that's sufficient to nix the sound card noise. The
noise you get is likely a combination of sound card
hiss, tape player and tape hiss, and, if you aren't
real close to the radio station, static. Good luck and
happy fourth.
Will see what kind of a recording I can get of the
fireworks tonight. I'll have to turn the mic down,
lol. I wish gold wave had an AGC on the record side.

 Hi Shawn,
Thank you for all this info. I'm going to try these
 things, and see how it
 works for me.
As for my tape player's volume, yes it gets messed
 with a lot. I record a
lot of things, and so I'm always having to adjust
 it.
And yes, the tape player is connected to the line in
 of my sound card. I
try to leave my line in volume at 70, but I'm not
 sure if that's really the
 best choice or not.
I think your probably right, that it would be good
 enough to just remove the
commercials. The reason I was thinking about
 inserting a bit of silence
though, was because of what I was trying to save to
 the computer.
See, a good while back I recorded the CMA awards,
 and I've been wanting to
get them onto my computer. However, I didn't want
 to just remove the
commercials, and not have a smooth break, between
 where the show ends, and
then begins again. I hope that makes some sense?
So that was why I was thinking about using that
 feature.
As for the noise reduction, I'm glad you explained
 how the clipboard option
worked. I had been trying to use that, but couldn't
 figure out what was
happening to my file. It turns out, I wasn't
 selecting the entire file,
once I copied a part of the sound to the clipboard.
Now, this feature will only work, if I can find a
 silent part in my
 recording correct?
What if I cant, then what would I have to do, in
order to get the hiss out?
This hiss is usually threw out the entire file. I'm
 not sure if it's there
in my recording from radio, or from my computer
 itself.
And also, thanks for explaining the other options
 from within the noise
reduction. I had tried to mess with them, but I was
 a bit nervous about
doing it, sense I had know idea what they meant.
 Again, thanks for the help.
 Terri

Hi, Marie, your windows sounds should be on your windows cd, just go to
the control pannel, then to add remove programs, and the tab to the
right of the install tab is windows setup, just go there, and windows
will search for the installed components, then arrow down the list to
multi-media, and if it says partially checked, then tab to the details
button, and press the space bar, and in that list, you'll find the
multi-media sound schemes. If it is unchecked, check it with the space
bar, and have your windows cd handy, as it will ask for that, and then
 your sounds should be installed.

Sorry about the awkward sentence construction. I couldn't fix it with
