Downloading Nero demo.

2004-08-09 Thread Geoff Waaler
Greetings,

Sorry if this was already addressed, but I get this list in digest
mode.

I'm afraid neither OldVersion.com or nero.com will address the issue;
she indicated having installed the file from nero.com. Nero works
their demo in a different manner. Instead of disabling certain
features or timing out it is fully functional until a given date when
it is disabled. It is possible if your timing is bad to install a demo
which only functions for a day. In this case I fear the file may
already have gone bad. The following is pasted from nero's web site:

** begin quotation from nerro.com download page **
 Important notice:

This is NOT a Trial Version!
New free demo package will be available soon.

If you don't have a valid serial number of Nero 6 please don't download
this packages!
** End of quotation **

The last demo file ran until July 31. Once the file was installed I
doubt that without assistance from Nero support you will be able to
install the new file when it becomes available and have a fresh demo.
If people could do so there would be no need to ever buy the software.

At this point the only way to obtain the free demo is to watch the site
for a new file. If it does not work as I suspect you can probably get
the Nero support group to help you tweek the registry or do something
so as to unlock Nero for you. The more drastic option of course is to
format and reinstall Windows.

Good luck.
Geoff

Anyone have a zip file of MP Tagger?

2004-08-09 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, this program is no longer made, and I never got to try it out, but
the facility that it has of placing the bitrate in the filename is one which
I need now, and a Google search produces web sites with no download links.
Has anyone got the original downloaded .zip or .exe file which they can send
me by e-mail? If so, please e-mail me before sending, so I can let you know
if I've already recieved it..
Thanks a lot.

RE: QUICK MX

2004-08-09 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi

Not as far as I know, but I will go and check again.

In the meantime - I still have some problems in working with QuickMX. When
I go to the set auto find resource limit sub menu, I get values from one to
ten and not an unlimited value. Also, when I set it on one for example, it
does not change the value in the download list.

Regards

Andre

Hi!

Go to http://exactaudiocopy.de and click on the link eac6.html
this will take you to the download links.

You'll also find some useful information including a tutorial for beginners
at the coaster factory. Can't remember the url, but typing coaster factory
in Google should turn up the info.

There's also a eac users' list on yahoogroups.

Cheers,

Thanks Charles. My volume control problem doesn't bug
me enough to get rid of skype, I've been having too
much fun with it, lol. I'd heard that a bug was fixed
some time back that caused it to jack up your volume
levels when you receive a call. Maybe the new versions
would work for you. Depends on your OS I guess, and
what else you have installed. Windows is strange, lol.
Thanks for the info.

CDEX has options for extraction that should take care of clicks at the
beginning and end of tracks. They are: Start and end offset (sectors).
Look under the CD drive tab of Cdex configuration. You might also want to
change the spinup speed.

RE: QUICK MX

2004-08-09 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi Harry

OK thanks. Is it then necessary to change any settings within QuickMX at
all. Or must you simply load it and leave it?

Regards

Andre, yes, it really is worth using the QuickMX with WinMX; it does nothing
for a single file.
But it works well for several or many downloads together.
Yesterday, I had five downloads going together at a total rate of 101 kbs.
It takes awhile for them to get started but then they take off.

It never says so in the documentation file, but I'm about 95 percent sure
that that auto find in quickmx's menu is to tell it how many searches to
perform at once, not to tell it how often to search. It does say that
quickmx is continuously searching, so there's no need to tell it how often
to search. I went and reduced that number to 1 and my downloads pretty
much
dried up, so I changed back to 10.

Problems with speakers, and microphone

2004-08-09 Thread TerriStimmel
Hello everyone,
Sorry for the cross-posting, but I figured the more help I can get with
this, then the better.
I've got a couple of problems going on, and I'm not sure what to make of
them.
First of all, I have Intel integrated sound on this computer. When I look
under the programs menu, I see something called Sound Max. This is where I
go to change all my volume settings.
Well, today I tried to go and set up my microphone. I have one of those
small, rather cheap desktop mics, that you can purchase from Radio Shack.
It has two tripple A batteries in it.
Well, I connected it, and I noticed that when I touched it, or moved it, I
didn't hear any sound from it, threw my speakers. On my older computer, I
would always hear it, and I'd actually have to keep it disconnected, until I
wanted to use it.
I thought that maybe I just wouldn't hear feedback from it on this new
computer though. But just in case I was wrong, I changed the batteries in
it. They die rather quickly anyway, so I wouldn't have been surprised if
this was the problem.
But changing the batteries made no difference.
So I went into the volume settings, and it's a bit confusing in there. I'm
not able to tell if the microphone is muted or not, because the mute isn't a
checkbox, it's just a button.
The microphone volume is set at 65, and I've even turned the boost on, just
to see if there would be a difference. But I have know idea if this
microphone is working or not.
I tried to run the audio wizard to see if that would help, but it didn't.
I was suppose to read the text on the screen, into the microphone, but
instead I just talked. This was of course so that it could adjust the
volume. It stated congradulations, that I had set the mic up properly, but
I don't know if that's accurate or not.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?
And is there any way I can test my mic, and possibly get feedback, like me
hearing myself?
Now here's the other odd problem, and I'm not too sure how to explain this.
Whenever I go into the Sound Max program, and I mess with any of the
settings, my speakers start to act weird.
Now, when I type, and a bit when the computer talks, the sound kind of fades
out. It's not a huge difference in sound, but it's enough to be annoying.
And it does concern me.
Would anyone know what could be causing this? And possibly what I can do
about it?
I'd hate to think that every time I go into the Sound Max, that this is
going to happen.
Any help on these situations, will be much appreciated.
Terri

You don't, it's an exicutable file that you have to open each time you want
to use it. You have to extract the files the first time you open it.
Just tell it what folder you want them extracted into, then open the
program when you launch winmx.

Re: Problems with speakers, and microphone

2004-08-09 Thread TerriStimmel
Hi Shawn,
Well, I just got a new computer. It has XP pro as the operating system.
Like I said, I have Intel integrated sound. It seems to work quite well.
Much better than whatever is in that old HP.
When I look in programs, I see something called Sound Max. When I go in
here, I have all kinds of volume settings. But my mutes aren't checkboxes,
like they are on my HP. Instead they are buttons, so it's hard to tell if
something is muted or not.
I finally did realize that I could test my microphone, by going to Goldwave,
so that's what I did. I don't know why it took me so long to think to try
this.
Anyway, it stated that the volume for recording was at 100, and for playback
it's at 70.
However, when I played back what I had recorded, it wasn't that loud. It
wasn't low or anything, but just not what I expected, for the volume being
at 100.

Best of luck with it. I can't even adjust my real

I wonder if your system is lying to you about what
your actual volume really is, lol.
