They have twenty feet of wire on them.

RE: Real Alternative

2004-09-15 Thread Robert Carter
Hi,
I tried Real Alternative and liked it a lot. The problem that I had with it
was that I wanted to use it to listen to sports broadcasts from the
University of North Carolina. They now have a subscription service where
you have to pay so much per month. When I tried to use Real Alternative,
the system came back and said that my real player was out of date and I
would have to update to the new one to use this service. I was using the
most recent version of Real Alternative and finally had to install the Real
Player to make it work. I was disappointed as I really would have preferred
to use Real Alternative.

LAME, A QUICK COMMAND LINE FOR A BATCH FILE

2004-09-15 Thread Dane Trethowan
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1
Greetings!
People have been asking.
Ok! about time! you say so here's the command line in its simple form
that EAC uses with LAME, you may like to try it. It can be used in a
batch file, naturally! changes have to be made to the command line
when using it with EAC or Easy CD DA Extractor to tell LAME about the
current file name of tracks being compressed. This command line uses
the old VBR method I discuss in earlier messages.
"LAME -V5 -q0 --quiet
"-V" followed by a number from 1-9 specifies the V quality of the
encoding, this quality can be set from 0-9 and I use 5. If a smaller
number is used encoding is worse but the file is small. If set to 9,
the encoding is excellent! but the file is large. Please note that
the "V" in this example is an upper case V and not a lower case one.
"-q" sets the Q quality, in the above example the Q quality is set to
its maximum amount, the range is 0 best to 9 worst. Please note that
in this example, a lower case q is used.
Everything else should be self explanatory.

  Hi John,
Well I found it and installed it, but now I get this error

Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert
the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file
  again.

I'm trying to access listen live links for various radio stations but it won't
work. My earlier version of windows media played them fine so I'm not sure what
the issue is, any thoughts as to what settings to fiddle with. I've got windows
98 a dsl connection and not a clue thereafter.
  Thanks
  Tessa

CXM PCR compatible antennas

2004-09-15 Thread ANN
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can get an XM antenna that has a good length of
cable and will be compatible, fit the antenna jack, on my XM PCR? My old
antenna is kind of totally destroyed, and I still don't have a replacement
for it yet. I had planned just to buy another pcr unit off Ebay just to get
the antenna, but for $300 and up . . . good Lord!Everyone has gone nuts
selling these things!

I enjoy the XM radio service, and as far as I know, there is no other way
for a blind person to be able to access artist names and titles unless we
are using the PCR units.

Thanks for any advice. I'll be polite and not say exactly what I think of
the RIAA, but are they so ignorant that they don't realize you could record
music from the PCR and any XM unit with a headphone jack, and you don't
need a specialized program to do it. I hate the fact that they are picking
on the PCR units just because of this fact.

~Ann
