recording

2005-04-19 Thread Juan Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I had a few questions.

1. Does anyone have adobe audition 1.5 Wineyes sets?

2. does anyone have sound fordge 7 sets?

3. which of the above software packages is better for recording from a tape
casset at high speeds, and redusing the playback speed so it is understandable?

thanks for any info. thanks

Re: recording live streams.

2005-04-19 Thread Stephen Jolley
Hi Joanne,
I use Total Recorder, and it meets all my needs.
If you have trouble connecting to the streams, make sure your recording
parameters (button to in main dialog) are okay.

The recording source must be software whereas from an externally
connected device like a hifi amplifier would be soundboard.

In your volume parameters, you may have to have playback device set to
total recorder.

Hope those tips help.

Hi. DJC recommended mediarecorder to me and I can't say enough about it!
I think it's pretty much limited to winamp and the streams you can pick up
with winamp, but DJC can correct me if I'm wrong there. It was a little
tricky to figure out the jaws commands when entering times, but once I got
it I really have had no trouble.

I also have total recorder which I think is more versatile as far as
working with media player and winamp, but I've not been able to figure out
how to get it to connect to the station. Setting the record and timer
functions was easy, but I can't get it to connect to the stream and I've
asked for help here but didn't get a response.

I don't have the exact website I got mediarecorder from, but I did a
google search and it took me to a download site.

balance setting

2005-04-19 Thread Judy W

Hi,

I'm using an audigy zs and when I use the system volume controls to go into
the play setting and set the speaker balance to 50 percent it goes back to
zero as soon as I exit the volume control. All of my other settings are
being preserved. Has anyone seen this?

Thanks,

Re: balance setting

2005-04-19 Thread Larry N
I haven't seen your specific problem, as I haven't had the need to change
balance since installing that sound card. But when using WindowEyes, checked
and unchecked items have occasionally failed to keep their new setting after
exiting. This does not happen every time, and when it does, my quick work
around is to open Jaws and redo the setting. No logic there, but so far it
has worked.

xm radio online very accessible!

2005-04-19 Thread Rusty Bourgoin
Hi Listers,
I had been reading, on various lists, about the inaccessibility of
xm radio online, so I never bothered with the free three day trial. Now,
however, that it is included free with an xm subscription, I thought I'd
try to struggle with getting it to play on my laptop as I'm visiting Tampa
fl for a few weeks. Imagine my supprise when I found it to be totally
accessible with window eyes. I haven't yet found where what's playing is
displayed, but I can choose and listen to any channel I choose with no
difficulty whatsoever. They must have been listening!

My experience has been that..in order to record a live stream..using Total
Recorder, the parameters need to be set to soundboard. But then..this
computer has been known to pull some strange things anyway! For instance,
if I try starting a recording in TR..before bringing up a live stream, the
computer seems to lose the sound drivers! However..if I start the
stream..then start Total Recorder to record, the stream will hang up!
This may be a Windows ME issue..and one of the reasons I'm seriously
contemplating getting a new machine!Tom Kaufman

Re: Goldwave Question

2005-04-19 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

I too have a couple of Goldwave questions. I bought the program several years
ago and really
love it.

One thing I have never been able to do is to accurately read the V U meter
percentages on my
machine running 98 S E. However, on my XP home machine, I can sometimes read
these percentages.
This is one area in which I much prefer to use Total Recorder as reading the V
U meters is quite
reliable.

Another feature of Total Recorder which I find preferable to Gold Wave is Total
Recorder's
ability to accurately move through a sound file in user defined increments
which range from
one-half a second to I believe five minutes. I believe someone mentioned there
is a way in
Goldwave to move through a sound file, but I don't recall it and wish someone
here would tell me
how to do it.

I find it cumbersome in Goldwave to hit alt e, k, enter, tab to start or finish
and type in the
designated time to which you wish to jump and then tab to okay and hit enter.
Is there a better
way in Goldwave.

Thanks.

Don Roberts

Re: xm radio online very accessible!

2005-04-19 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi
This is kind of true, kind of not. if you are a current XM Radio
subscriber, then yes, it *is* free.
However, if you are not currently an xm radio subscriber, you can purchase
a subscription for xm radio online for $7.99 a month I believe it is. Or
you can become a regular subscriber for $12.99 and get a regular radio and
you can then enter your radio ID and get a free subscription that way.

Re: xm radio online very accessible!

2005-04-19 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi
You don't download it. it's a regular internet radio stream, much like the
others available out there, accept not all of the channels are streamed,
and there are channels available online that aren't available on the
satellites, and the reverse is true for the satellites as opposed to
online. So to get all the channels, you have to have both the satellite
radio and the online service.
. A subscription to xm radio online is free if you're a current xm
subscriber, and if you're not, it's $7.99 a month.
You can also get a free 3 day trial if you're not a subscriber and give it
a try. note that you should disable your popup blocker though, because
that's how these channels and controls are displayed.

MP3 flash player recommendations

2005-04-19 Thread Jeff Samco
Hi, Listers,
I haven't been on the list for a while so don't know if this subject has
been recently covered.

I am looking for a portable flash MP3 player that is relatively
accessible. I would like it to have a simple way to copy files such as the
MuVo or at least accessible software. Also having an accessible FM tuner
with capability to record from radio and voice recording features would be
nice.
I would like to hear any and all recommendations for good models or ones to
stay away from.

I have come across these models which seem particularly feature-rich at
under $100:
Creative TravelSound TS350W with built in speakers.
The SanDisk SDMX1512A18 with 512 MB FLASH and FM tuner and recorder.
IRIVER IFP-790T with 256 MB flash and FM tuner and voice recorder
J WIN JXMP129FM with 128 MB flash and FM tuner and voice recorder.

Thanks for sharing your experience expertise.

Re: cdg .mp3 files

2005-04-19 Thread Trueblue Proud
Chris, I haven't come across any software that will burn these type files.
The burn software I use is Nero, and this software does not burn CDG files
at all. The only way it is possible to put these files onto disk using Nero
burning rom. Is to first, convert them into .bin files, with a cue file.
That is what I have been told. Whither there are some other software that
will do the job better, I don't know.
Some people say that CDRWIN software is much better for burning such files,
but I can't seem to be able to get it to work at all.

hi
I've changed the subject line so it's a bit more descriptive, these
files? really doesn't describe what's going on.

Why not just burn them to a data cd?
I mean, if everything I've learned over the years is true and you burn
them to a data cd, and if you have a suitable player that can play these
things, you should be just fine. or hell, if you can find a player that
will play them, you should be good to go. i don't know where you got the
advice that they have to be converted to a .bin file to be burned to a cd,
that doesn't seem right to me. but then again I've never worked with the
file type before so maybe it's the one instance that's different about
this whole thing, all i can think of is to just burn the files to a data
cd and it should work fine, no conversion should be needed.

are you trying to actually convert these things to mp3 files that you can
play in Winamp or some other kind of audio player? Seems like you're
taking the long way round.

hi guys, been trying for so long, to find anyone who can help with this

I have lots of Karaoke music files. .cdg .mp3 files. I
have been told that such files must be converted to .bin files before
they can be burned to disk.
This is where I 'm gettting stuck. I have been using mp3+toolz to convert
to .bin. This has been working all right for me, but I've now been told
that there should be a cue file along with the .bin files, but for some
unknown reason, I don't sseem to have the cue files mentioned.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Or is there a more speech friendly prog than mp3+toolz I can use for this
job.
Any help with burning these files would be really very helpful indeed.

2005-04-19 Thread Jeff Samco
Let me try to clarify. If I understand MP3 players, there are two basic
types of storage: one uses flash memory with no moving parts; the other
uses a hard drive which spins just like a computer hard drive and holds
greater amounts of storage. I thought the Archos players were of the
second type. They may well have flash memory for holding the operating
system but audio file storage is on the spinning drive. I am interested in
the first type with storage in flash memory. Does this type of player
still utilize the Rock Box software?
And, I would still like any and all recommendations on what flash based

rockbox questions

2005-04-19 Thread Allison Mervis
Hi all!
I have some questions about the rockbox firmware. I'm getting an archos on
Saturday and I want to have all of the facts straight. What are the advantages
of using the rockbox firmware as opposed to the firmware that comes with the
machine? What makes the Archos accessible? Can I buy the Archos with rockbox
already installed? If not, is it easy to install? Thanks!

Re: MP3 flash player recommendations

2005-04-19 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I don't know if they still make it or not, but I have a compact flash MuVo
from Creative Labs. I got it a year or two ago. It has 256M of flash
space. It has no display, so it's obviously quite accessible. It also
doesn't come with or need any PC software to transfer the files to the
MuVo. You just use Windows Explorer to copy files to the drive.

I haven't been keeping up with things lately, but it sounds a lot like the
iPod to me, except you don't need to use any special software on the PC. I
must be missing something, but everything I've heard of the iPod doesn't
set it apart from the MuVo that I've got. Maybe the MuVo I've got isn't
made any more or maybe the iPod is just a lot cheaper for more memory.

IRIVER IFP-790T with 256 MB flash and FM tuner and voice recorder

Re: rockbox questions

2005-04-19 Thread Sarai D. Bucciarelli
Okay, first of all don't install the firm wear on the archos that comes w/
the unit, that's not acessible. Rockbox isv very accessible, I've used my
player w/ it and w/o it. Its easy to install. If you go to their web site
there is a FAQ for blind users. I have the Archos studio 20 recorder.

Subject: rockbox questions

Hi all!
I have some questions about the rockbox firmware. I'm getting an archos on
Saturday and I want to have all of the facts straight. What are the
advantages of using the rockbox firmware as opposed to the firmware that
comes with the machine? What makes the Archos accessible? Can I buy the
Archos with rockbox already installed? If not, is it easy to install?
Thanks!
Allison

Let me try to clarify. If I understand MP3 players, there are two basic
types of storage: one uses flash memory with no moving parts; the other
uses a hard drive which spins just like a computer hard drive and holds
greater amounts of storage. I thought the Archos players were of the
second type. They may well have flash memory for holding the operating
system but audio file storage is on the spinning drive. I am interested in
the first type with storage in flash memory. Does this type of player
still utilize the Rock Box software?
And, I would still like any and all recommendations on what flash based
players are more accessible. Thanks.

Thanks, yes, I am aware of RockBox but isn't that solely for hard drive
based players? I'm specifically intersted in lower-priced flash
players. Any further recommendations from anyone?

 Subject: MP3 flash player recommendations

 Hi, Listers,

I haven't been on the list for a while so don't know if this subject has
 been recently covered.

I am looking for a portable flash MP3 player that is relatively
accessible. I would like it to have a simple way to copy files such as
 the
MuVo or at least accessible software. Also having an accessible FM tuner
with capability to record from radio and voice recording features would
 be
 nice.
I would like to hear any and all recommendations for good models or ones
 to

IRIVER IFP-790T with 256 MB flash and FM tuner and voice recorder
J WIN JXMP129FM with 128 MB flash and FM tuner and voice recorder.

Thanks for sharing your experience expertise.

Yeah the Muvo is made, they just did a review of it on acess world. Ditch
the IPOD, its not as accessible or as nice as people make it out to be.
