GETTING HOLD OF PLEXTALK PTR IN THE US

2005-07-31 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

I will be visiting New York from the 4th to the 8th August i.e. later this
week. I am considering purchasing a plextalk ptr while there as it will
probably save me the postage to South Africa.

Is there any way I will be able to get hold of such a unit while I am in the
US?

You are welcome to contact me off list at

Re: Latest version of winamp and bookmarks

Thanks, Bruce.

Got that latest version and it's cured the issue I was having with playback
of lossless WMA files. So far no unwanted features in this latest version
that I've noticed as reported by some other listers.

Could you give me a pointer on using the time markers please?

Thanks.

 1. If you go to www.whitestick.co.uk and then to the downloads section,
you'll find a link to the newest Winamp.

 2. If you are a JAWS user, you can set what are called time markers in
files that do what you want. Window-Eyes users do not have this option.

Write them and ask. They are in Princeton New Jersey and they might be
willing to ship it overnight to your hotel. Princeton is less than 100 miles

Easy CD Creator 5.

Hi:

This is my first time creating an audio MP3 CD for a portable CD player; it
is a book. How do I know how many pages I can put on one CD? I get an error
message when I try to burn the MP3 file, however, it does not say what the
error is, only that it is a technical error! The book has aproximately 270
pages. Thanks, Debbie.

MP3 Decoding Odity

2005-07-31 Thread Bruce Toews
I came across a real audity yesterday when mixing something together in
Gold Wave. I have some radio programs in MP3 and I tried decoding them
with Gold Wave. It just gave me an error message. So I tried converting
them with Easy CD-DA Extractor (latest version), and it went without a
hitch. As far as I can tell, these are just ordinary MP3 files, Winamp
also has no problem with them. Why would Gold Wave have a problem? I'd
also add that other MP3's get decoded by Gold Wave just fine. Thanks.

The info is in the insert+h list when you're in Winamp. But briefly:

Set a marker: m
Go to time marker: alt+shift+m
Remove time markers: control+shift+m

Remember that these are built into the JAWS scripts and thus not available
to users of other screen readers.

Re: Latest version of winamp and bookmarks

2005-07-31 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi Josh
You're correct. Actually it's not so crazy as you put it but it is damn
annoying let me tell ya!
When I upgraded to version 5.094 i didn't necessarily have any trouble fast
forwarding through files but I did have the problem with the playlist
editor not staying in focus. The developers made a very slight change to
the interface which causes problems with screenreaders with respect to
where the focus is when you closethe open file dialogue box and return to
the playlist editor. You're essentially placed back into the main window,
so you then have to press control plus tab twice to get back into the
playlist editor, this is assuming that you also have the playlist editor
open and the equalizer as well. So after finding this out, I went back to
version 5.08E as you suggested.

I would honestly stick with that, it works the best on my system.

At 02:28 PM 7/30/2005, you wrote:

hello Kevin,
Maybe you'd better think twice about installing the latest version of Win
Amp. Many people have been complaining about the crazy things that happen
with the playlist editor. Well I for one, have had similar problems with
that thing. For some crazy reason after installing 5.094, when I would
hit enter on Win Amp from the desk top, I would get thrown in to that
stupid playlist editor, and couldn't get out of it no matter what I did.
So I, like some others, had to delete that version, and go back to a
friendlier version, namely 5.08E. So from now on, I won't be so quick to
get the latest thing out there until I begin hearing great things from
others as to it's reliability.

Re: Latest version of winamp and bookmarks

2005-07-31 Thread Josh N Rivera
Hey Chris,
A funny thing happened when I deleted the latest version, and went back
to 5.08E. I fully expected to have to reinstall all of my bookmarks, all
the radio stations I had previously marked, but when I checked the
reinstalled version, there they all were still. How does that happen? I
thought deleting one version would get rid of all the stations you had
bookmarked. I'm glad they didn't erase, but just puzzled.

that's right! unfortunately the Winamp forums now have a visual
verification for when you sign up, at least it did last I checked so you
have to have sighted help to sign up. Bummer! If I can get it though, I'll
get in there and report the issue with the developers and see what they say.

1. How can you bookmark large MP3 files in winamp? If I'm listening to

a file that lasts a couple of hours, can I leave a bookmark without having
to make a note of the running time and jumping to that time?

2. Has anyone noticed problems playing lossless WMA files? Tracks seem

distorted and jittery for the first 5 seconds when played in winamp but
sound great in media player.

Thanks.

Kevin

Re: Backing up mp3's onto a dvd

2005-07-31 Thread Andy

Hi again Rusty.

I managed to follow your instructions and successfully copied 14 albums
1.44gb of mp3's onto a blank DVD. This is excellent as I've got a lot of
stuff to back-up and it makes sense to use a larger format disk. Any idea
just how much I can get onto a DVD? Another list member advised that he
managed to get 3gb. Is this possible?

Best wishes.
Andy from sunny Kilcreggan.

Hi,

When using roxio e z cd creator 6.x, choose creator classic from
the opening menu. Navigate to the files you'd like to store onto the dvd.
Remember, you're making a data compilation, not music. Press control t to
add the selection to you dvd, either a file at a time, or a folder at a
time. You can route your mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, and
move it up a line at a time to hear how much room remains on the dvd.
They hold 4.5 gigs of data. If you put more than 4 gigs on, you'll get a
warning message that after burning, the dvd will be closed. I use dvd's
to archive a lot of data. Whether you'll be able to play these mp3's on a
player depends on what the player supports. My dvd player is old enough,
about four years, that it will not play dvd's or cd's that I've burned. I
have players that will play mp3 cd's. I suspect that there is, or some
day will be, a player that can play any format.

Hope this helps.

Hi Peter

I burned mp3's onto a standard cd and Simon was able to listen to the
music on his boss wave machine. I could also listen to it on my dvd
player which is under my tv. I understand that a dvd can hold mp3 tracks,
but cannot get Easy CD Creator to do it for me.

Best wishes.

Mp3 music on a DVD. Now there's an idea. I imagine if this is possible
then

you could perhaps contain an artists complete discography on one DVD? I'm
assuming a DVD has more than 1 Gig of space, otherwise you'd just place
the
discography on a regular CD. Which is fine if you only have a discography
of
8 albums or so. But if an artists discography amounts to some 15 albums,
then
a DVD with the space of perhaps 2 Gigs would certtainly be the way to go.
If
this is the way you went and you placed all of an artists discography on
one
DVD in mp3 format, could you then play that DVD on a stereo slash mp3
player?

Hmmm. Now 14 Cat Stevens mp3 albums on one DVD playing all day on one DVD
disc. Man I'd be teasing Buddha in Katmandoo with a chocolate bull at
four on
a broken morning in room C79 while I waited for the peace train. But is
it
really possible to place a 15 album discography on one DVD and play it on
an

mp3 player?

Hi all.

I've converted 14 Roy Harper albums to mp3 format and would like to back
these up onto a DVD to save disks. I'm using Easy CD Creator version 6.0
and
would really welcome a step by step at how to achieve this. I've
attempted
but cannot manage. I have discovered that the albums amount to 1.37gb.
Is

this too large for a DVD? Any advise would be very appreciated folks.
Thanks.

Best wishes.

Re: Latest version of winamp and bookmarks

2005-07-31 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi Josh
It's quite simple actually. The only things that are updated when you
install a new version, or in our case go back to a old one is that the
installer looks to see if there are certain files there and it only
overwrites certain ones, like the main Winamp application file and some
plugins. Your bookmarked radio stations and other settings like that
aren't even touched unless you actually tell the uninstall program to
remove all files. if you do that, then of course they'll all be gone. But
that's the beauty of Winamp, everyone thinks you have to just re-install
everything but Nullsoft keeps it simple.

Hey Chris,
A funny thing happened when I deleted the latest version, and went back

The info is in the insert+h list when you're in Winamp. But briefly:

 Set a marker: m
 Go to time marker: alt+shift+m
 Remove time markers: control+shift+m

Remember that these are built into the JAWS scripts and thus not
 available
to users of other screen readers.

Got that latest version and it's cured the issue I was having with
 playback

Could you give me a pointer on using the time markers please?

  Thanks.

  1. If you go to www.whitestick.co.uk and then to the downloads
 section,
you'll find a link to the newest Winamp.

  2. If you are a JAWS user, you can set what are called time
 markers in
files that do what you want. Window-Eyes users do not have this
 option.
