the problem is, the cd itself was not mixed in surround. you aren't in fact
getting the dirrection simply because they were not recorded in that manner.

Hi all! I write to say that my thoughts on this subject aren't meant to
suggest that I don't value other opinions on this subject. I don't know if
mine are right on this; but I have a classical CD that I got when I listened
to the Bose radio, and it's supposed to give the true nature of the sound;
but I've listened to this CD with surround sound, and it sounds great! I'm
wondering though, how can you fully appreciate a symphony or jazz
performance in stereo, when you can more fully determine the direction of
where the instruments are in the performance? I guess I can appreciate
this, because I was in my high school band and chorus! This is just my
personal opinion, but I feel that I can really appreciate that fact!
Cheers.

Hi Dana. Thanks! But I think that listening to music is a subjective
thing, and maybe in my humble opinion, a good listening experience may be
different with different people. Again, just my two cents worth, or maybe a
little more than you may want! Loll.

Garry,

To me, at least, as well as to many (most?) audiophiles, being in the middle
of a movie soundtrack (no matter how good the cinema's sound system) sounds
quite different from being in the middle of a live concert performance. And,
it is the latter sort of feel that we strive to reproduce in our home
listening environments.

Listening to good jazz or classical music through a surround sound system
always makes me feel as though I'm in a movie theatre, not a concert hall,
club, or open air performance. That's why I won't use one, for my home
listening.

activating noise reduction

2006-01-01 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi
I am trying to activate Sony's noise reduction 2.0 on a new computer running
Windows XP Pro, and am getting an error and I wondered if anyone else had
come across this or can give me any other ideas about activating this
product. Sony are naturally closed over this holiday period. Perhaps
someone could also let me know what is the best way of getting hold of tech
support, is it by phone or by e-mail? Thanks.

OK, so to the problem.
I start noise reduction and immediately get the following error:

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

If anyone could please help, I would be grateful as I really need to get

you have to get something done don't they?

Thanks.

 Hi,
I know a lot of you use xm radio, but is anyone on here familiar with
 Sirius?
I went to target and the unit I looked at, don't remember the model
number, the buttons were so small they were indistinguishable.
My fear is that the buttons on these things are so small, that you can
 only use the remote.
I am looking next week for more models, but if any of you have any
recommendations for a particular Sirius unit, please let me know.
 Many thanks in advance.

Hello Tyler. I know you have received some answers but I'll chime in
here in case I can add to any of the information given. As mentioned you
can easily use DVD Shrink to read the dvds as well as decrypt them which
is a must for making back up copies. Due to the encryption and the size
of most dvds you cannot simply use dvd-copy in Nero to copy a dvd movie.
By using DVD Shrink you can remove the encryption and you can shrink it
down however some newer dvd movies like Stealth starring Jessica Beel
and Jamie Fox will not decrypt even with DVD Shrink. Unless they update
DVD Shrink what you may have to do is purchase any-dvd which is a driver
running in the background. I believe that sells for $30 or $40. With
this running any dvd placed in your system will be decrypted so DVD
Shrink can read it and you can do your backup.

I don't remember off hand which site sells Any-DVD but you can get it
from the list archives or do a google search for it.

 Good luck.

frustrated and for some reason a week later the hard drive on that same

back then I didn't know what a keybord was to a mouse and I just thought

Good luck.

This is not specificly PC-audio related, but in nero 6.0, how does one copy a
dvd from disk to disk, or make it into an .iso file? (what two options are
these?) I couldn't find it in the help file, and I'm guessing I didn't look

When I tried using the Premiere CD Creator I saw some graphics on

Re: Good PC Speakers

2006-01-01 Thread Gary Wood
Hi T. J.! No, I think I meant that with that CD, I could get the
directionality, and know where the instruments were by listening to it with
my surround sound. What I'm saying is, that if you just listen to classical
music in stereo, you really don't get the directionality that you get when
you listen to a symphony with surround. That could be said for big band
music and jazz! And also, for example, listening to Billie Joel's We Didn't
Start the Fire with surround, you get a great feeling with the rear speakers
with the effects they used. Maybe it was before a live audience, but it
still sounded good.

the problem is, the cd itself was not mixed in surround. you aren't in fact
getting the dirrection simply because they were not recorded in that manner.

Hi all! I write to say that my thoughts on this subject aren't meant to
suggest that I don't value other opinions on this subject. I don't know if
mine are right on this; but I have a classical CD that I got when I listened
to the Bose radio, and it's supposed to give the true nature of the sound;
but I've listened to this CD with surround sound, and it sounds great! I'm
wondering though, how can you fully appreciate a symphony or jazz
performance in stereo, when you can more fully determine the direction of
where the instruments are in the performance? I guess I can appreciate
this, because I was in my high school band and chorus! This is just my
personal opinion, but I feel that I can really appreciate that fact!
Cheers.

different with different people. Again, just my two cents worth, or maybe a

Listening to good jazz or classical music through a surround sound system
always makes me feel as though I'm in a movie theatre, not a concert hall,

   could
   burn

   still
   won't burn the CD.

Instead of kritizising a product made especially for the blind we should
probably write the company with serious info about, what they should fix to
make the program the very best also for the advanced users.

 Just my 2 cents.

Re: Premiere CD Creator

2006-01-01 Thread Bruce Toews
Yes, at least in my opinion. I will say it one more time before I give
this subject a rest. Since there are other products out there that require
very little learning curve and perform the same or greater functionality,
the only message I get from this product is that blind people need to be
spoon-fed specialized software. I see very little benefit to anyone,
beginningg or novice, in paying twice the price of an off-the-shelf
program for limited functionality and an interface which is only
marginally, if at all, simpler than other off-the-shelf interfaces. I have
nothing against the company. I've seen a lot of their products and a lot
of them serve a distinct purpose and I support them. But this product, I
think, just costs new computer users unnecessarily and makes them think
that they need a specialized program when they really don't.

DVD player - Re: Premiere CD Creator

2006-01-01 Thread Peter Scanlon
I would really like to see this company develope a DVD player that was
truely accessible. It could have the ability to easily access the
additional descriptive audio which is difficult to access because each
DVD is set up differently. Or at least that is my understanding.

spoon-fed specialized software.

In the list of tracks, thee's a hot key that you can use to move a track
up and down in the list. It's the equivalent of cutting it from one
position in the list and pasting into another.

I agree, a nicely laid-out DVD player would be nice. But if each disk is
different, it will be hard to standardize witha player. The only DVD's
with described video I've seen are the ones for season two of the Canadian
hit series Corner Gas. To get the DVS with those DVD's you just cycle
through the different audio tracks: 5.1 surround, stereo, DVS, audio
commentaries. My DVD player has a button for cycling through the various
audio tracks.

Subject: activating noise reduction

 Hi
I am trying to activate Sony's noise reduction 2.0 on a new computer
 running
Windows XP Pro, and am getting an error and I wondered if anyone else had
come across this or can give me any other ideas about activating this
product. Sony are naturally closed over this holiday period. Perhaps
someone could also let me know what is the best way of getting hold of
 tech
support, is it by phone or by e-mail? Thanks.

 OK, so to the problem.
I start noise reduction and immediately get the following error:
 Internet Explorer Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
 Line: 5
 Char: 1
 Error: Object expected
 Code: 0
 URL: file://C:\Documents and Settings\brian hartgen\Local
 Settings\Temp\udat\upsell.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
 Yes No
If anyone could please help, I would be grateful as I really need to get
this up and running to do some audio work. These things always happen
 when
you have to get something done don't they?

 Thanks.

I would really like to see this company develope a DVD player that was
truely accessible. It could have the ability to easily access the
additional descriptive audio which is difficult to access because each
DVD is set up differently. Or at least that is my understanding.

CDRWIN is much less, and the accessibility has remained strong throughout

that, and offers the closest thing I've ever seen to one-button CD burning

I agree, a nicely laid-out DVD player would be nice. But if each disk is
different, it will be hard to standardize witha player. The only DVD's
with described video I've seen are the ones for season two of the Canadian
hit series Corner Gas. To get the DVS with those DVD's you just cycle
through the different audio tracks: 5.1 surround, stereo, DVS, audio
commentaries. My DVD player has a button for cycling through the various
 audio tracks.

CDRWIN is much less, and the accessibility has remained strong throughout
the versions. Easy CD-DA Extractor is most accessible, much less than
that, and offers the closest thing I've ever seen to one-button CD burning
I've seen anywhere. Just two examples.

Yes, at least in my opinion. I will say it one more time before I give
this subject a rest. Since there are other products out there that
 require
very little learning curve and perform the same or greater
 functionality,
the only message I get from this product is that blind people need to be
spoon-fed specialized software. I see very little benefit to anyone,
beginningg or novice, in paying twice the price of an off-the-shelf
program for limited functionality and an interface which is only
marginally, if at all, simpler than other off-the-shelf interfaces. I
 have
nothing against the company. I've seen a lot of their products and a lot
of them serve a distinct purpose and I support them. But this product, I
think, just costs new computer users unnecessarily and makes them think
that they need a specialized program when they really don't.

Hi Ray, one Sirius receiver with the knob for tuning to the various
stations is the SIR PNP 3. This receiver also has 10 preset
buttons. I use this receiver with an Audiobox boombox (Model BB 3)
and I just love it. It has a remote as well. The preset buttons are
rather small but very distinguishable. The boom box has 2 large
buttons for volume control and the other buttons are distinguishable
to the touch. If I can answer any more questions, just let me know,
I'm happy to be of help. Happy 2006, Norma ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

2006-01-01 Thread Robert Hebert
Not trying to be too picky or maybe I have missed earlier comments but as you
know but maybe haven't thought about is that the direction your antenna is
positioned depends on the location of the satellite from which the Serious
transmission is received. So, on the West Coast of North America where I am, I
would likely have to have my antenna in a window facing south and possibly
south east as I Live in Vancouver Canada. If I lived in Southern California or
Northern Mexico, I would likely have to have the antenna in an east or
north-east facing window. And of course, all this is assuming that their
satellite is parked somewhere over the south central United States as I
understand is where the TV satellites are parked.
Who knows though, maybe that parking lot is full, or all the satellites have
parking tickets so they had to move or that parking lot just got too darn
crowded. I believe that geophysically there is an optimum location for the
satellites then a central location relative to population density is also
factored in.

locations, lower than the geo-stationary XM satellites. This means that
an outside location where the antenna can see most of the sky is the
preferred location to mount the Sirius antenna.

Hi Ray, I haven't had too bad of a time with antenna placement,
though in the house I get the best results with the antenna facing
southwest. I would have to move it sometimes when the climate
changed, or when there were significant solar flares or
whatever. Just kidding a little there. Anyway, right now I have the
antenna outside on our upper deck, facing west. With the antenna
outside I rarely get any problems with the transmission, but I do
understand this is not an option for everyone. HTH Norma

2006-01-01 Thread Chuck Adkins
Ray, Sirius told me over the phone when I installed my unit that I should
place the antenna outside, although I haven't done that yet. I have some
trouble but not much. When and if you get your unit, turn to channel 184
which is their update channel that also has some weather stuff. That's what
they recommend. It's a very easy set up and I don't think you'll have much
of a problem though. You can subscribe to different emails for sports,
music, etc for program updates, and like with XM you'll be able to get the
music channels online.

Hope that helps some.

2006-01-01 Thread Robert Hebert
They must have several satellites then as the arc of any one antenna's
reception ability would be limited to the point where the satellite fell below
the viewing horizon. Thanks for your info, I guess that parking lot must truly
be getting a bit crowded so just as when searching for a parking space in a
busy city sometimes the only solution is to keep rotating round the block.

Joint Stereo - what is it?

2006-01-01 Thread arthur Pirika

Hi, I've notice that mp3's at 128 kbps joint stereo seem to be better quality
than normal stereo mp3's. So, what is joint-stereo and why is the quality
difference present?

I agree, a nicely laid-out DVD player would be nice. But if each disk
 is
different, it will be hard to standardize witha player. The only DVD's
with described video I've seen are the ones for season two of the
 Canadian
hit series Corner Gas. To get the DVS with those DVD's you just cycle
through the different audio tracks: 5.1 surround, stereo, DVS, audio
commentaries. My DVD player has a button for cycling through the
 various
  audio tracks.
