I would be very grateful if you could tell me how to create a DVD

Many Thanks.

Hello Karen. Nero Burning ROM will burn on to DVD blank media just fine.
I use it all the time and is very speech friendly. I still use version
6.6 because I have not taken the plunge into version 7.x but I still
highly recommend Nero.

Does anyone know were I can get some software for burning DVD's.

Re: sigmatel audio help sought

2006-03-23 Thread Larry N
Hi Richard. If you want to do line in recordings from cassette or turntable,
be careful when choosing a USB sound source as the features do indeed vary.
My first choice was the M-Audio card, one that is designed with a guitar
input. It is a fine USB device. The problem is that the line in jack is
mono. I've seen another USB card that offered no line in.

My situation is that I want to improve on the intel sound chip that came
with my new computer, but it's manufacturer, MDG here in Canada, surprised
me with a sticker that warns me not to remove it or I'll void the warranty.
So I have to either pay an extra $90 to have them install any new PCI card
that I might choose, void my warranty by breaking the sticker's seal or go
with a USB card. I'm trying a Turtle Beach card next, and we'll see.

Richard! USB sound devices come in a wide range of functionality and
prices. I'm using one now that is primarily a guitar effects processor.
There are some that are optimized for audio recording, some for surround
sound processing, some for multi-track recording and some for general
purpose. Do you want to do anything special with it? Your looking at
 about
 ninety dollars and up.

MODEM

2006-03-23 Thread Jouie
I am looking for a modem that supports voice communication and the caller ID
feature. Are you aware of that? If so, can you suggest any? I'm talking
about a modem that is capable of recording phone conversations, of course
with the help of a software that is designed to handle such features; like
that voicemail has. One thing, when somebody is calling, his/her telephone
number flashes on your computer screen. I'm sorry if I describe it that
much, I just want to be so sure that you get what that is.

Thanks

Re: sigmatel audio help sought

2006-03-23 Thread Richard Quan
Larry, why would you have to remove the chip? You could disable the onboard
audio in your bios settings so I have been reading.

Hi Richard. If you want to do line in recordings from cassette or
 turntable,
be careful when choosing a USB sound source as the features do indeed
 vary.
My first choice was the M-Audio card, one that is designed with a guitar
input. It is a fine USB device. The problem is that the line in jack is
mono. I've seen another USB card that offered no line in.

My situation is that I want to improve on the intel sound chip that came
with my new computer, but it's manufacturer, MDG here in Canada, surprised
me with a sticker that warns me not to remove it or I'll void the
 warranty.

Re: launchcast radio and the my station

2006-03-23 Thread Wes Derby
Okay, I know I'm several months behind on my list mail, but I do have a
comment about this...It's one of the reasons I miss SonicNet's station
feature; the rating tool was accessible.

I wrote Yahoo about this a couple years back, and the response I got was
pretty much It's a flash tool. Sorry you can't use it, but we don't plan to
work on accessibility.

I'll admit, Yahoo was one of my favorite sites when I first got on the
Internet in 1998 or so...But lately, they're one of my least favorites. I
know this isn't necessarily audio-related, but on their mailing lists and
many of their features, when you sign up, they have that Type the text in
the graphic for security purposes. If you're blind or visually impaired,
click here. It takes you to a contact form...I've filled it out about
twenty times and have never once gotten a reply or any assistance...If I
want to use something that involves that kind of feature, I have to have my
wife, who is sighted, assist me. The only sites I've found who actually
assist in those things are garageband.com, opieanthony.net, and xmfans.com.

Okay, end of rant.

 Hi,

I know you have to rate stations with this radio system:
 http://ca.music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp

or rather, your station, if you have one. (You have to sign up to yahoo!
to be able to make your own station).

Anyway, has anyone got the rating system to be accesible; or even usable?

 thanks,
 Tyler

PS: usually, I just listen to the stations that it lists, but I'd like to
have my own kustom station (say, I want it mixed: pop, rock, alternitive,
 etc etc).

Re: launchcast radio and the my station

2006-03-23 Thread Wes Derby
It's irritating to see how many sites are using this form of
verification...I work as a Readers' Advisor for the Washington Talking Book
Braille Library. As part of my job, I maintain our general email account.
Many times, when replying to a user who has Earthlink as their ISP, I'm
given a form to fill out to allow my emails to go through and avoid their
spam blocker. It has the graphic verification, and has a Click Here link
for the visually impaired. This takes you to their live chat with technical
support...The help I was given from Earthlink's tech support has been
Sorry, we can't help you. Try to find the person's phone number and call
them and tell them to add you to their list of okay email addresses. Great
help, guys...Which is why, when asked to switch to Earthlink, I refused.

So now, I have to call a sighted coworker over to assist with these forms,
or the Earthlink user who wants to order books (usually for a parent or
other elderly relative) won't receive the reply to his/her email.

By contrast, I used to regularly do reviews on grageband.com...I don't have
much time since our daughter was born almost a year ago. They had the same
process on each review. However, I wrote them and explained that I'm blind
and use JAWS. They were able to disable this requirement on my account, so
now, I can submit my reviews without a problem. So, some companies are
willing to help...Others, obviously, aren't.

It's more of the deal that bots flood a certain person with these
 requests,
otherwise a normal form like Yahoo used to do with email confirmation
 would
be enough. They must be, by the appearance of things, be trying to curb
 that
 problem as well.

I'm not sure how it works since I've yet to get an email response. My
understanding is that there's more to it than just typing email in the
edit box. My understanding is that this then kicks off a procedure where
an email is sent and replied to, similar to the verification procedure
used when signing up for some mailing lists. Of course, a bot could
automate all of this and work around this safe guard, but I'm sure bots
could also use OCR to grab the text in the image too.

So now all yahoo stuff lets you put in email for the code thingy? The
trouble is that provides them no bot protection at all, a bot, when
programmed, could put the word email in the box too.

I tried to sign up for this service with no luck. They guard against
 bots
by presenting an image and prompting you to type in the code you see in
the image. They have an alternative where you can just type email in
the edit box instead of the code presented in the image, and the rest of
the sign up procedure will be done via email. I did this, but never got
any email back. I submitted a problem report, but again, I got no
response. Does anyone know if this service is still active? The home
page seems to be updated frequently. BTW, it looks promising, both from
the amount of content that seems to be available and the attention to
 accessibility.

I will be addressing this to yahoo. If I get no response, I will simply
tell
them, or ask them, why they have a center for visually impaired people
 to
create acounts, yet they provide no accesibility. I guess

Hi Dick.

I'm sure you've gotten a ton of recommendations, but here ya go.

I used to use CDEX, but now find it slow, especially on my new computer.
Now, I use WinAmp Pro...I still have 5.111, though I see some newer versions
are out. It works great, and is fast.

What program can you recommend to convert files to MP3?
Maybe I should ask what program do you use to convert music files to
 MP3
format?
