that is not always that easy. For example, in my case I need to have
someone come in and move a jumper on the motherboard in order for two
soundcards to be seen.

  Hi there,

Just a conflicting point of view Adobe Audition is a multi-track program
annd it does sort of have a 70% functionality with JFW. A question that
I
will also answer here in regards to: Why not sound forge or gold wave?
Well, Gold Wave is a good program in itself however it does not have
very
good effects as post-production goes. Sound forge is another step up but
still doesn't offer the dynamic range that adobe audition offers in

Golden! Producing music with instruments and voice is possible with
any recording program but the procedure would vary with each program. I
believe you have Goldwave? Do you have Sound Forge?
You can do it in MP3 as well as WAV.

Re: real player volume control

Since I started using Real Player in 2002, there has been no way to
independently control the volume. For me personally, this has not been an
issue as I have an external synthesizer, and I would rather not use Real
Alternative because of what I've heard about it not working with all
streams, but as with so many things int he comptuer world, it's largely a
matter of personal preference and individual needs.

RE: Using an Onboard Sound Card Exclusively for JAWS

2006-08-29 Thread Tim Grady
Who disabled them? Assuming none of the jumpers were changed then you just
need to go into the BIOS and enable them. If you do that go into device
manager, find out what the cards are and search on the internet for the
correct drivers. I will say that if any of them is the AC97, I have some
drivers you can try. I don't know anything about JFW except that you can do
what you want. If the jumper has been changed on your mother boards to
disable the on board sound cards then they won't show up in device manager
and you should talk to a pc repair person to find out what jumper to change.

Golden! You make more than one recording, each recording in a separate
window. You copy the contents of one window to the clipboard, navigate to
the window whose contents you want mixed with what's in the clipboard, go to
Edit, Mix. You probably want the first choice in the list so just press
enter.

The dreded text recorder.

2006-08-29 Thread kevin cussick
Hi all,
I got into a conversation last night on list and off list about converting
text to MP3.
I remember I tried to use text recorder a while ago and gave up can't
remember why so I installed the dam thing to-day!!
Now I remember why I gave up on this bit of software I know some one on this
list clames she has got this to convert text to MP3 but I know of lots of
other
folks who have the same problem as me.
It just sits their it makes the wov file but If you use Jfw mouse Keys it
says it is compressing to MP3 but 4 or 5 hours later it is just doing the
same.
I have the lame encoder in the System 32 directory and have told the program
to use this I also have it in program files and have tried to use the
encoder
it's just the same one burt it does not matter what I do it does not convert
to MP3 I would like to get this program to work not because I will use it
really but It is just annoying me because their is no reason that I can see
why it does not work.
can some one help?
It has a nice interface it's not as advanced as say text aloud but I would
like to try it all the best and thanks for any help any one can give.

2006-08-29 Thread Patrick Perdue
Hello Joe,
You could always buy an i-pod (not shuffle or first generation), or an I-Audio
x-5 (both of which are still
being made), and install the rockbox firmware for more accessibility.
With the rockbox firmware installed, you don't need to use itunes (drag
and drop works fine now), and it supports ogg playback as well, which
the native firmware doesn't do.

You can listen on Bluebeat.com. I haven't used them in awhile, but the
 last
time I did on 98, it required setting some other sound driver as default
that got sort of choppy at times. I sort of end up having an odd setup
anyways because my default recording is through my USB headset and
 playback
is normally through the sound card unless I switch that. I don't know if
Bluebeat would cope with that, but installing extra sound drivers is
 always
 scary.

 Hi,

I've been assisted by the Pandora tech support folks in getting
 registered
with the site. If you don't ask, they may not offer to help, but if you
inquire, they will ask you to email the important info to them. Once you
have been registered, you should be able to both log in, and choose
different songs/artists to listen to. The keystrokes for their media
 player
don't seem to work, even with a screen reader turned off, but perhaps I'm
missing another step which would enable the use of these keys.

 Good luck,
 Scott

I wrote to them and they acknowledged that registration is likely
impossible, and I agree. I haven't gotten help getting over that
hurdle, but they seem to believe, and the existing keyboard shortcuts
give cause for cautious optimism, that the system is usable once you
 register.

would be willing to get sighted help to register if I could be
reasonably certain that I could use the service with Jaws. Any help
with this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks much, and have a fantastic day.

Re: WinAmp

2006-08-29 Thread Wes Derby
That's interesting to hear people saying how inaccessible the library
is...I'm running JFW 5.1, XP Home, and currently, Winamp 5.27...Thanks to
Jim's scripts, I have absolutely no trouble using the media library...Works
great for browsing files, searching for files, ripping/burning CD's, using
the online services, and so on. Granted, I haven't upgraded to any of the
5.25 betas, so that might make a difference...Actually, I've considered
upgrading, but as a Winamp Pro user, I haven't seen any version newer than
5.24 on the Winamp site.

Reed,

Suggestion 1: FORGET ABOUT THE LIBRARY! Even with the latest scripts, it
isn't accessible, and it simply isn't worth all the effort to try and make
it accessible. For browsing the music on your hard drive, use the ctrl-l and
shift-l commands, and, for finding interesting web streams to play, browse
the shoutcast web site, and bookmark anything that interests you.

Go ahead and install the latest scripts, though. They do make various other
functions more accessible. Just don't think they'll do anything
significantly useful for the library.

Blessed Be,

Dana

 Hello to the list!

 I'm PO'd with Media Player.
And I don't want to hear any I Told you so
I've just downloaded and installed the current version of WinAmp.
I am currently running JFW 7.0 which includes scripts for WinAmp.
I see on the JFWLite - programs web page, Jim Grimsby's WinAmp scripts.
With JFW 7.1, has the library support been added or, if I upgrade to JFW
 7.1, do I need Jim's scripts? Do I ever need Jim's scripts?

Any suggestions on setting up and starting for the newbie WinAmper?

 Thanks.

Winamp and CD's; Strange Issue

2006-08-29 Thread Wes Derby
Hi All.

Okay, here's a strange one; maybe someone else has experienced this. I now use
Winamp for all of my ripping needs, as well as most of my audio burning (I'm
now using CDRWin for data burning since Easy CD Creator is no longer
accessible.). Ever since the 5.2 series came out, I've had a rather strange
problem. Often, when I put in an audio CD to play, the whole system will
freeze up if I load it in Winamp...Then, when I reboot, it tells me that XP has
recovered from a serious crash, and asks if I want to submit an error report.
When I do, it says an undertermined driver caused the problem. Then,
occasionally whenI'm ripping, after a few CD's, Winamp will give an error
saying it needs to close...When I submit the error report to Microsoft, it
claims NullSoft has created an update which will fix the error, and gives me a
link to click...This simply takes me to the page to download the newest version
of the player, which is what I have.

I have two CD/DVD drives, one of which is my burner. It doesn't matter which
drive I use; this can happen with either one. The odd part is that I have no
problem burning...Also, when I play a CD in another program such as Windows
Media Player, I have no problems. I simply prefer Winamp and find it much more
full-featured and easier to use.

Like I said, I've only encountered this problem since I upgraded to version
5.21; I'm on 5.24 now.

Anyone else having this problem, or know of a patch I can download? It's a
really irritating thing to have to deal with...Plus, when Winamp crashes, it
locks the CD drive up, so I have to reboot just to be able to eject. Usually,
if I put the disc back in and re-do my rip, it works just fine...Winamp never
gives me problems, like I said, when I'm burning CD's or playing files from my
hard drive...It's only when I'm popping in a CD to play, or on occasion when
I'm ripping...And it doesn't happen every time. With the problem when playing,
sometimes I can load three or four CD's before I have a problem. With ripping,
sometimes I can go through twenty with no problems, but then the next three
will give me trouble.

Very strange...Any help would be appreciated.

Wes
