mackie 1402
I have a mackie 1402 vlz. Through the headphones, I can hear all my mic inputs and my telephone hybrid. For some reason, when I use the two stereo sliders on the far right to control the output to the computer, I can't hear the sound change as i move these two sliders. I have been able to in the past. I have obviously pushed some button or changed a knob setting. The manual is useless and full of diagrams. Does anyone own this mixer? If so, do you know how to fix this problem? Devices for Recording LP's and 45's to Digital
Good morning to the List, I am looking for recommendations of which device or devices to purchase that will allow me to play and record our extensive LP library. Hi Paul. I'd be interested in what you find out. I'd like to be able to connect the device directly to my pc. Re: Devices for Recording LP's and 45's to Digital
Hi all, the easiest way to do this, is if you have a turntable that you can set up close to your computer! You can either get an inexpensive pre-amp that will boost the low level of a magnetic phono cartridge and equalize it correctly and feed the output of that pre-amp to the line input of your sound card! Then, all you need is a sound editing program, such as Gold Wave, or Groove Mechanic wich is designed for recording vinyl! An alternative solution, if there is no way to get a turntable in the same area as the PC, is if you already have a fairly good quality stereo system, with a turntable and a cassette deck, you can first record the vinyl LP's on to a good quality cassette and then, plug a cassette deck into your PC's sound card and record that way! Since I have my stereo system set up right here along with my computers, I just feed my main pc's second sound card into the tape monitor loop of my reciever, so I can record anything that I wish onto the hard drive! I use sheets of clear laminating material, available at any office supply store. I can have multiple lines if necessary and can cut the material as a custom fit. And it is thinner than Dymo tape, thus reducing the possibility of the braille catching in a player. You can experiment a little in order to isolate the problem. You may also want to get in touch with the company in order to determine what is wrong with your head set. .. Hi Keith, I have never used groove Mechanic, so I can't tell you anything about it! I use Gold Wave and it is very accessable and it has a pop and click filter that works well if used sparingly! As far as Pre-amps, Radio Shack used to sell one, though I don't know if they still do, but any pre-amp designed for a magnetic phono cartridge should work just fine! HTH: J. J. Sony has a turntable with onboard RIAA preamp that you could plug directly into your computers sound card, BA Software price, $110.00, includes shipping within the United States. Ion has a turntable with onboard RIAA preamp that you could plug directly into your computers sound card or USB port. This comes with the stylus and software to record and cleanup damaged records. It's marketed expressly for converting Vinyl to MP3 or Wave. BA Software price, $140.00, includes shipping within the United States. I'm quite sure Teac has something to but I'm still waiting to hear from them. If I had a lot of Vinyl I think I'd go for the Sony with Sound Forge but the Ion would take all the work out of the process by setting its own levels and automating everything else. if you don't already have a preamp I would buy a mixer instead. It will have turntable preamps in it plus you can do so much more with it. An alternative solution, if there is no way to get a turntable in the same area as the PC, is if you already have a fairly good quality stereo system, with a turntable and a cassette deck, you can first record the vinyl LP's on to a good quality cassette and then, plug a cassette deck into your PC's sound card and record that way! all you really need is a turntable with a built in preamp to plug in to the line of the sound card to make lp recordings. But I do use a mixer as a go betwene so I can e q my lps the way I want them. Beyond TV
Hi There, Has anyone on this list used Beyond TV or any of the Beyond Media products? I had bought a media Center Edition computer and an Adaptec Duel Tuner card. All this to let me control my TV and record programs via the computer keyboard. However, neither regular JAWS or Professional JAWS can work with Media Center. Freedom Scientific says that Microsoft will not let FS have access to this program. This means that Microsoft's Media Center is intentionally inaccessible! Beyond TV, should let me independently record programs. Are any of you already using Beyond TV? If this doesn't work out, then I'll try the Swingbox I would really appreciate any input on this. Replay AV 8.03 Podcasts I did
Hi All I did 9 podcasts for Applian Tech the makers of Replay AV 8.03 applications. They have the mp3 files that I did. I am not a professional narrator/speaker but I did the recordings anyway. This will educate both Applian Tech and new users of Replay AV 8.03. For sure Applian Tech has been listening to me for 3 years now. I made the recordings for hobby only and I make no money with it. I did the recordings because Applian Tech has been listening to me whether its by email or mp3 recordings I have made for them to listen to JAWS and how I am interacting with their applications. The recordings are not complete. They will lead you in the right direction on how to get started with Replay AV 8.03. The menus. I have word RAV 8.04 will be released soon. I may do more recordings if any of you need one to be done but I can't guarantee it. RE: Beyond TV
Hi. I don't own a media center PC but I know of a few people who are using them who are blind, and they use JAWS professional. I can't speak for Window-eyes since I've never had experience with that, however, whoever said that Media center was inaccessible was mistaken. See, there's that word again, accessible, which is very subjective. There is a huge difference between a program that simply will not speak with a screenreader no matter how many scripts or set files you throw at it, and a program that seems unusable, until you learn how to navigate around it. There's always a chance that something can be changed in the program to make it more screenreader friendly, which could help. But in the meantime, I'm drifting off topic here. What I said above could count for any program, audio or otherwise. At 04:18 PM 1/9/2007, you wrote: I use Beyond TV all the time. When you open it from the task tray, press f6 to start the TV. Hello. I'm not sure who on earth you spoke to at Freedom Scientific, but both JFW Professional and WindowEyes work reasonably well with Media Center. I have used both products and although there are a few things that do not work, all of the basic functions like watching TV, changing channels, recording on the fly or scheduling recordings for later viewing work just fine. The program guide is also very useable and you can see what is on and choose to schedule a program for recording, or record the entire series if applicable. Someone at FS has given you inaccurate information, but honestly that doesn't surprise me as it would not be the first time. --Warmest regards, --Rick Alfaro [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of VICTORIA VAUGHAN Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 5:10 PM To: PC audio discussion list. Media Centre was: Beyond TV
Here's a bit that I've found out about Media Centre while playing around with it. Jaws does not see text when you use the jaws cursor. So, you have to rely on the feedback that Jaws gives when using normal navigation. Just about all navigation is done with the arrow keys. The tab key doesn't seem to do anything. You might be on a control that says save and wonder where are the things you want to change. Just use the right arrow key to get to the options. Then use left arrow to get back to the save and cancel controls. You use spacebar or enter to activate controls. The default setting gives clicks for feedback when navigating around. So, to explore each screen, use the up and down arrows to see what is in each frame or pain or sub window. And, use left and right arrows to switch between these sections. I was trying to use the My Music function today. Jaws does have trouble seeing some of the controls and doesn't always give feedback when arrowing around in there. I'm not sure how I finally get Jaws to read lists of music files. I selected one and pressed spacebar. This took me to another screen that looks like a player window. I'm not sure I found all the controls in there. No hot keys were listed. The backspace key seems to work to move to previous screens and to get back to the main screen. Media Centre is somewhat accessible but I wouldn't call it blind or screen reader friendly right now. - Original Message - From: Chris Skarstad [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 4:51 PM Subject: RE: Beyond TV Hi. It's the interface they're talking about, not the OS, I think. - Original Message - From: Chris Skarstad [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 5:51 PM Subject: RE: Beyond TV Hi. Re: Beyond TV
Beyond TV works with it's built-in web interface. Other than that, it doesn't work that well with it's own interface. I can record pretty well, but can't really watch live TV with that program. I think the whole access to the media center interface is the whole copy protection issue. I hope this stuff doesn't make accessibility worse before it gets better. - Original Message - From: VICTORIA VAUGHAN [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 4:09 PM Subject: Beyond TV Hi There, Has anyone on this list used Beyond TV or any of the Beyond Media products? making phone calls using the computer
I've got a friend who is interested in making telephone calls using his computer. Does anybody have any suggestions? I told him about Skype but that is the only one that I am aware of. Thanks. Re: GoldWave: is it possible to record multiple tracks?
Hello! Or use audacity. But its a bit hard to use. /Anders. - Original Message - From: Richard Claypool [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, January 08, 2007 5:33 PM Subject: Re: GoldWave: is it possible to record multiple tracks? You can copy and paste tracks together, but you can't, for example, do true track layering. This is why I really don't like digital editing. I've seen programs that can perform this task, but I don't have the money for them yet, so i will stick with my trusty old clunky tascam. Hello list, I wonder if it's possible to record a file while an another one is being played and heard in GoldWave. It might be useful, for example, for making a simultaneous translation of a podcast or for recording the second vocal track... If it is not possible to do that in GoldWave, pleas could you suggest me a program where it could be done in an accessible way? Thanks a lot in advance! -- With best regards, Andre.
