I would recomand Nero showtime, for the following reasons
1.the functions can be all found in the context menu key
2. you don't have to change your sound card settings.
3.the video is clear.
4the picture and sound come accross in nero digital/mp4
5.
the next option would be power dvd which i have also used.
that is also accessible with the function key but you sometimes have to go
and set audio and video settings.
least recomanded i would say is win dvd the picture, and audio aren't not as
clear as the above two programs.

RE: the most accessible full featured DVD player.

2007-01-26 Thread Joy Tilton
I would like to find a DVD player that will let you choose which sound card
you want it to go through. The only one I know of is Windows Media Player.
But, for some reason, even when I try adjusting or turning this off in the
view menue, I can't get rid of this web page that comes up every time I try
to play a dvd.

No disbelieving laughter here.
If you cannot get the power pack you need then perhaps an alternative
may be the new high capacity rechargable batteries around now? Get a
couple of sets and a quick charger.

I don't know about accessible but Zenith makes a player with a
display feature that allows you to work around the menus. Just hit
the display button on your remote and select the episode you
want. if it's a movie just hit display 1 and the movie plays. If
you have a multi episode DVD you can select display 1 then display 2
and so on. works great for us. We've owned two Zenith DVD players
so far that have had this feature so I'm assuming it's available on
all their players. Hope this helps.

Olympus DS-40: First review

2007-01-26 Thread Michael Lang
Today, I read the first hands-on review of the DS-40. The reviewers,
seemingly a british company which distributes such products, like the 40
quite well. They write, that putting the clip microphone onto the
recorder is a bit tricky.

According to the review, one always seems to have to go into the menu,
when one wants to change the playback speed. That would be really
cumbersome. I like it as it is on the better Sony voice recorders, where
one sets the alternative speed in the menu and then can easily change
between normal and alt speed with a mechanical switch. Having said that,
I'm still looking forward to the new Olympus recorders of course. Here's
the URL of the review:

Re: replay podcasts

2007-01-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Kurt

I've been using 8 for a while and I've not seen one .cap file yet.
it's a little more forgiving about creating files. i notice if the
show has any kind of connection problems, instead of just giving you
a file you can't use, it just gives you what was recorded instead. it
might be an incomplete show but it's better than nothing. it really
does pay to have a good, fast internet connection when using replay.
it's that way for any internet stream, but especially in this case.

Stopping web page in WMP was: the most accessible full featured DVD player.

2007-01-26 Thread Bobcat
I know there is a way to get your normal view back in Windows Media Player.
Open the Now Playing sub menu from the view menu. Choose no visualisation.
That works for me. This might not fix your problem with playing dvds. I
haven't tried a dvd with WMP yet.

I would like to find a DVD player that will let you choose which sound card
you want it to go through. The only one I know of is Windows Media
 Player.
But, for some reason, even when I try adjusting or turning this off in the
view menue, I can't get rid of this web page that comes up every time I
 try
 to play a dvd.

I would recomand Nero showtime, for the following reasons
1.the functions can be all found in the context menu key
 2. you don't have to change your sound card settings.
 3.the video is clear.
4the picture and sound come accross in nero digital/mp4
 5.
the next option would be power dvd which i have also used.
that is also accessible with the function key but you sometimes have to go
and set audio and video settings.
least recomanded i would say is win dvd the picture, and audio aren't not
 as
clear as the above two programs.

Studio Recorder

2007-01-26 Thread Peter Scanlon
I have just been playing with Studio Recorder for the first time.
The mix command along with the Arming the document seems to be a great feature.
However when mixing the two files, I thought I would have been able to preview
the sound as I adjust the levels, but this does not seem to be possible, it
seems like you have to adjust the levels by trial and error and if one of the
source of destination is too loud you have to re do it. Am I missing something?

I don't remember the the normal version can do or not.
It's pretty easy to edit the file, if you want to learn let me know.

I have a habit of using total recorder (newest) to record music, played
after total recorder has started. I get these pauses at the beginning
and end. Is there any way that I can set something so this doesn't
happen? I am not good enough with the program to cut the pauses out
myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Kurt

Re: Studio Recorder

2007-01-26 Thread Peter Scanlon
Yes, playing one file and recording the other is a nice feature. Say you
want to record a voice ove a music backing but want make sure you finish
before the end of the track. Hearing the music track in the headphones gives
you an idea how long you have to the end of the track.

Once you record the second track you use the mix command.

will 25 be the final total? Your work is much appreciated and I may even

what you really need. Thanks again. Kurt

Ajusting recording or input levels was Re: Studio Recorder

2007-01-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
I'm cureious, why do you need to ajust the levels within the software
itself, can you not ajust the levels using the Windows Volume
control? That way you can hear what's happening when you're recording
with whatever you're recording with.
