Re: Recording a semenar using Gold Wave

2007-08-06 Thread Doc
It wil work best if you happen to have an external synthesizer. If your
sound card has wht you hear or stereo mix you can record what ever comes
through the soundcard. this will mean having to turn off system sounds and
being sure your speech program is either turned off or muted.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually and I forgot to mentioned that I have two sound card. My built in
sound card is SoundMAX Digital Audio and I have an external sound card which is
Creative 24 Bit external sound card. My synthesizer comes through my built in
sound card while all Windows Sound skeams comes through the external sound
card. So, what is the best configuration that I need to do for me to
accomplish my task?

I asked a simillar question and got no response. Does this What you Hear
setting allow you to record the mike input at the same time?

What other names might such a setting be called by a different card
manufacturer?

I did a review of the iRiver on Main Menu four years or so ago. In
that review, I also created a little recording. The review should
still be available in the Main Menu archive. Since I don't record with
the iRiver normally, I've forgotten how I exactly did the recording,
but I still know, that I didn't use Rockbox.

Hi Chuck, for some months now, AllOfMp3's shut-down has been
 anticipated.
People who spent enough with them were given an invitation quite
 some
 time
back to migrate to MP3Sparks. Those invited users have been using
 MP3Sparks
in place of AllOfMP3 well before AllOfMP3 was closed. All that has
 happened
now is that the anticipated shut-down of AllOfMp3 has occurred.
 MP3Sparks
was down due to the load, but it was never shut down.

YouSendIt Replay plug-in scripts published

2007-08-06 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi

As the subject line suggests, the scripts for the YouSendIt plug-in for the
A V Replay program have been freely published. Shortly I will create some
kind of page for them on my site, but the direct URL to download the
installer is
www.hartgen.org/YouSendItreplay.exe

The installer is programmed to detect JAWS versions of 7.0 through to 9.0 at
the moment to cater for 9.0 when it is released later this year. As was
pointed out on this list, version 6.20 does not work well with Replay A V
and since these scripts are designed to meet a specific purpose I have not
been concerned about that.

The functionality offered by the scripts is quite automatic as follows:

1. When confronted with the licence agreement screen, ALT+A equals accept
licence agreement, ALT+D equals decline licence agreement, ALT+V equals view
licence agreement. I did not put hotkey help in here because the tutor
message voice prompts you with this guidance automatically.

2. When focused upon the sign in or any other YouSendIt screen, the
virtual cursor is automatically activated and you are advised of this. From
this point just use the application as if it was a web page.

3. Insert Q gives you the scripts version number.

That's all, but at least for jaws users this plug-in is now accessible.

Brian Hartgen

I still use it, but be careful, as it installs a proprietory driver
which may mess up other recording/playing software you may use.

 Hi

I want to record a few audio programs from a web site at scheduled
 times.
Is total recorder still a good option for doing this please or are
 people
finding that other tools are more accessible or easier to use. I have
 not
used total recorder before but I see there are various presentations
 about
it around on the internet but just wondered if anything surpasses that.

 Thank you.

Re: SoundBlaster's inaccessible equalizer

2007-08-06 Thread Bobcat
I've actually had a little luck getting at those bass and treble controls.

1: Make sure your screen reader is reading tool tips. The values of the
sliders and the headers will be spoken when the mouse moves over them.

2: Rout your Jaws or mouse pointer to the active window.

3: Use the mouse up, down, left, and right movement keys. ctrl+shift+arrow
keys with Jaws and WindowEyes.

4: If you hear a number spoken you have landed on a slider.

5: Lock the left mouse button down.

6: Use mouse up and down to change the levels. These are vertical sliders.

7: You might not hear the values change so unlock the left mouse and move
the pointer to the left or right a few spaces to get off the control. The
new value will be spoken when you move back to the control.

Master volume is the first slider on the left. Next is bass, then treble.

I wish I could give you the coordinates for the sliders but Jaws doesn't
seem to report this accurately, probably cause I'm not doing it right. I've
tried making a frame around each slider but that didn't work either.

I'm sure someone could actually write a Jaws script for the Creative mixer
if they tried.

It is a shame that Creative kept making their mixers less accessible over
time. Their old AWE 32 mixer actually worked well and even had hot keys to
move direct to controls.

Older SoundBlaster cards offered a slider for bass and trebble,
controlable via Windows's standard mixer. Newer cards don't have these
software sliders anymore. They offer a graphical equalizer software
instead, with which one seemingly can adjust more sound frequency
bands. However, this graphical equalizer seems to be inaccessible to
100 %. Does anybody here know a solution for this problem? Is there
perhaps an alternative software to control the SoundBlaster equalizer?

 Thanks

Re: scheduled recording from the internet

2007-08-06 Thread Mike Pietruk
I, today, spent some time playing with Replay AV; and can see why, those
of you who use it, are impressed with it.
I too would have been blown away if I had tried it before RedButton.
For my needs, at least, RB blows Replay AV away.
Here's why.
First of all, the underlying database the programs use in getting their
station info makes the Radiotime site, used by RedButton, superior in that
it appears to have a good number of stations
that the Replay Media Guide doesn't include.
Moreover, I observed that Replay AV must be loaded for automated
recordings to be made.
RedButton doesn't have to be opened and will, in fact, wake up the pc from
hybernation to do its work.

Don't get me wrong: Replay AV is a topnotch piece of software and
especially likable by a blind pc user as it follows standard Windows menu
structures. And I may well eventually purchase it.
While Redbutton initially turned me off due to requiring a Window-Eyes
user to extensively use my mouse keys (for which set files can assist), I
have grown comfortable with the program and have no regrets in paying the
$29 registration fee.

Question: how prompt are the Replay folks in adding stations and fixing
links when reported via their feedback system?

Mike, unless version 8.x of Replay AV has limitations not found in
earlier versions, it is capable of starting a recording from hybernation.

I found the Replay A/V feedback process to be cumbersome but
certainly not unusable. the one time I reported some alteration to
their database, i believe they fixed it pretty quickly.

Now, regarding RedButton, does it record via the sound card, or, like
Replay A/V, does it directly capture the stream?

thanks.

RE: scheduled recording from the internet

2007-08-06 Thread Kelly Ford
For those familiar with Replay AV, how comprehensive is the database of
actual shows on radio stations? One thing I really like about Radio Time
and RedButton is that the database of shows on each radio station is quite
complete.

This was certainly not a formal comparison but in looking up a few stations
I listen to/record in Red Button on Replay AV, the station listings only
listed a few shows from the daily schedules. The missing shows were not
network programming but rather local shows that just seemed absent.

My reaction to the Replay AV Media Guide was much as yours --
disappointing when compared to that of RadioTime.
Of course, if I had first tried Replay AV, I likely would have viewed the
guide as terrific.
What concerned me more, however, is that a cursory glance of stations
found a lot of missing ones which RadioTime had as part of its database.

RedButton directly captures the stream so you can use your soundcard for
whatever else you like.
RedButton can record up to 8 streams simultaneously.
You can monitor any of the streams at any time and/or hop between streams.
Scheduling is handled via the Radiotime website.

Let me stress something important: the advanced blind pc user should have
no problem with the program.
One, however, must be comfortable working with the mouse keys as there is
no conventional Windows menu structure.
The label graphics feature of Window-Eyes labels also essential mouse
clicks; and creating for oneself a set file will certainly make life
easier.
