lots of ideas, do this first,
go to control panel, sounds and audio devices,
and, press control-tab. You will land on a tab which says volume page. Press
the right arrow until you hear audio tab. Now press the tab key until you
hear sound playback device, combo box, where you change the default
playback device.
USB Internet Phone by TigerJet
if it says this, use that combo box to change it to your sound card, and
then, do this, after you've changed it to your sound card, press tab until
you hear, Use only default devices, check box not checked. Press the space
bar to check this box. Now press tab to apply, and press the space bar,
to apply your changes. Shift tab to ok, to close the dialog.

Hi All, Ok, about Magic Jack, glad your doing ok with it. I tried it as
it so states in its set up and nothing went right.
So far, it has taken me two days to try and figure out what the heck went
wrong. I cannot find anything that it downloaded, this is necessary in
order to clean out my system and possibly try again. But here is the
really bad thing; all my sounds are gone now. I go into the sound
settings and try loading up one of my own or any other and no go. I tried
just setting one, like windows start and when I click the play button to
as if test the sound, a dialouge box shows and says that this media file
cannot be played because my sound card is now in use and as far as I
know, this is bunk.
My jaws works ok, but no sounds in any program. I use to get a sound to
notify me that I got email, now nothing; and so on.

So, does anyone know how to get my sound card working again?
I really would like to get MJ working but not at the expense of jaws or
any other interference.
Any ideas out there?

To answer your question about Magicjack and Screenreaders (JAWS or

Windows-eyes), yes, a blind person can use it just fine. All you
 do
is insert the Magicjack into a USB port and it installs itself
temporarily. You have to answer a few questions at the sign-in
screen the first time, but that is it. The interface on the
 screen
is not to accessible, but it has a skype-like interface and you
 can
enter numbers and there is a dial and hang-up button. However,
 once
the program is loaded, you can minimize the screen, so Magicjack
 is
hidden or minimized; then you can plug a regular house phone into

the MJ unit and you are ready to go. You get a regular dial-tone

and you can make phone calls directly from the regular phone. You

don't even have to use the screen at all. It works directly like
 a
  regular phone.

One thing: On my old Dell Desktop, once I plug the MJ unit, the

sound goes to the phone (XP Pro); however, when I plug the MJ unit

into the HP Desktop (Vista) I don't get the same effect and the
sound stays with the computer. You can turn off JAWS and just use

the phone. Some guy said you could start JAWS first and plug in
 the
MJ unit later and the USB may not take over the sound card.

Like I said, MJ is definitely usable via the phone regardless of

  your screenreader.

I have the unit and it works fine. They could, however, do a
 little
script-type work on the screen interface. The good thing about it

is that, once you get the unit, your phone costs go way down. You

only have to pay a small licensing fee in succeeding years ($18 a

year for me, as I bought unit early, but it may be cheaper for
current purchasers). Free long distance in US and Canada and
 skype-
type credits for calling abroad. I think, however, that, if you

sent a friend or relative in another country a unit, you could
 have
free long-distance calling, as long as you both are logged on or
 if
you call your MJ number and it is in England, they could answer it

and pay nothing. I like that.

Another way is to tab to the side you want to mute and hit alt p followed by m.
That will mute the selected side for the whole file. If you only want to mute
part of it, simply select that part, tab to that channel and hit alt p m.

  Hi Chris,

One way of doing what you want in Sound Forge is to do the following.

  1. Record all of your clips on both channels as normal.

  2. Convert to mono if the left and right channels contain different things
(i.e. are in stereo) and you want a combination of both
  channels to appear in one.

  3. Open a new file and create a file of silence which is longer than any of
the sections you wish to mute.

  4. Copy this new file to the clipboard with Ctrl+a and ctrl+c.

  5. Switch back to the original file with ctrl+f6.

  6. As you know, pressing tab cycles between left channel, right channel and
both. If you want to mute the left channel, tab until
you only hear the left channel and select the section of recording you wish
to mute using the i and o keys. I'm sure you know how
  to do this.

  7. From the edit menu, select paste special and overwrite. This will
overwrite only as much of the left channel as you have
selected with the silence from the other file. You will get a warning about
copying two channels to one, but just select OK. You
can probably avoid this warning if you record your silence file in mono.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 as above for the right channel.

  I hope this helps.

  Hi

Well, I atempted this, and either I'm doing something wrong, or sound
  forge is misbehaving.
I think what needs to happen is the source files i have need to be in
one channel only, but again, there's the rub, i'm not sure how to do that.
In this instance, the production would sound something like this...

you would hear a sound in the left channel *only* and then you would
hear a voice in both channels, followed by a sound that appears in
  the right channel *only*
So you get that kind of effect where it bounces all over the place. I
know writing it out doesn't do it justice, but that's what it would
  sound like.
What happens when I use the tab key and the sound only plays through
one channel, it only plays through that channel as long as it's set
that way. I basically need to take 2 of these sound clips, and mute
one channel in each of them.
I hope I've explained this right?

  Thanks.

  Hi guys
I'm atempting to do some production work and I have this idea for
something but I'm not quite sure how to pull it off, so I'm hoping
one of you guys can assist me.

As it says in the subject line, I'm using Sound Forge 8. I'm just not
able to afford version 9 at the moment so you know how it is, you
  work with what you have.

In this production, I have a bunch of short audio clips and i have no
problem mix pasting them all together on top of a music bed, that part's
  easy.
What I want to do however, and I'm pretty sure SF 8 can do this but
I'm not sure? but what I want to do is take one of these sound clips,
set it to only play on the left channel, and then just after that
one, i want another one to play only on the right channel. I've been
through all the options, and a friend of mine suggested maybe using
mute, because in an earlier version, you can only mute one
channel. That's essentially what I need to do but I'm not sure
how. Even more curious is the fact that if I press the tab key once,
the sound of the file only goes through the left, then another press
of the tab key goes over to the right, and then a third press brings
us back to both channels. I would need to figure out how to get one
of these sounds to only play through one channel, so I hope this can
be done. i do have other recording programs like Goldwave and Studio
Recorder so I'm all set with the actual programs, but just need to
  know how

I believe I'm understanding that you have two jacks for 2.1 speakers? truth
be known, there should only be one jack necessary. I believe that if you
have to use two jacks like that with that setup, probably your issue is
getting your sound card to realize that the left channel is plugged into one

About Auto Sizer?

2008-04-16 Thread tickpub
Hi all and thanks for your help on my sound card woes, and it is amazing
to see how much everyone knows out there.
So, I want to know a little about some of these smaller free programs
like Auto Sizer and a thing called Macro Manager that allows you to use
the Windows keywith set keys to create macros to get here and there and
do scertain things.
Do any of these programs interfere with Jaws or cause slow downs or have
hidden agendas?
I would like the auto sizer but do not want any more woes to effect my
comn or work.
Got any suggestions on what smaller programs might assist but not cause
troubles?
Thank you,
MMM

the old fm transmitter question again

2008-04-16 Thread Dean Martineau
I'm in a position to advise somebody about an fm transmitter to send the
computer audio signal throughout the house. What is the current wisdom? I
have a card from a British company whose name I can't remember, and it is
great. I recall that they now produce something more polished, and probably
more expensive. Please remind me of their name. I have also gathered that
the CCrane unit doesn't work for most people.

Thanks.

Re: Magicjack and Screenreaders

2008-04-16 Thread Curtis Delzer
Ok, I'll try that -- just did, found what you're talking about, but only can
hear slider 2, but cannot determine any changes, and if slider 2 is the
microphone of the output of the phone, (microphone over the line) that would
be nice to control in some way. I tried re-classing in Window-Eyes to see if
the custom control, could be made into a up down control, or some other
scrollable control, no luck, no difference in the amount of change viewable,
as you say by a screen reader. I made the assumption that these sliders were
for headset volume and microphone volume of the headset/USB devices, did not
know they could make a change in the magic jack volume which is quite high
over the phone, here. :)
Thanks!

Hello Curtis, tab around too the menu button, hig space bar, arrow down,
says something like phone or head set volume enter, I'm just not sure the
screen reader will read these sliders. It may say slider one and slider 2
slider 2 iss the microphone vvolume. After you change the volume, be sure
and tab around to the OK button, which all so saves your changes.

 Hello James!

To answer your question about Magicjack and Screenreaders (JAWS or
Windows-eyes), yes, a blind person can use it just fine. All you do is
insert the Magicjack into a USB port and it installs itself temporarily.
You have to answer a few questions at the sign-in screen the first time,
 but
that is it. The interface on the screen is not to accessible, but it has
 a
skype-like interface and you can enter numbers and there is a dial and
hang-up button. However, once the program is loaded, you can minimize the
screen, so Magicjack is hidden or minimized; then you can plug a regular
house phone into the MJ unit and you are ready to go. You get a regular
dial-tone and you can make phone calls directly from the regular phone.
 You
don't even have to use the screen at all. It works directly like a
 regular
 phone.

 however,
that, if you sent a friend or relative in another country a unit, you
 could
have free long-distance calling, as long as you both are logged on or if
 you
call your MJ number and it is in England, they could answer it and pay
 nothing. I like that.

Re: the old fm transmitter question again

2008-04-16 Thread Dave McLean
Just to add to my other post:

If you can find one on Ebay that is assembled the Ramsey Fm100B does
everything you'd want in a transmitter that would connect to your computer
and transmit your music around the house.
The advantage of that transmitter is that it has its own built in mixer with
2 sets of rca inputs and a microphone jack. The frequency is also easy to
set and it locks as well so you can't inadvertently knock it off frequency.
It also has its own built in whip antenna.
If you can find one assembled it's about as plug 'n play as it gets.

The British company you're probably thinking of is Veronica.
They still have the old vfo unit and they sell a 100 milliwat unit (among
 other more high powered units).
The 100 mw unit however requires you to open the box and set switches
 internally to change the frequency.
If you don't care about that it's a great unit.

For $99 you can get the Mobileblackbox v6000 which is a small unit, about
the size of a cigarette pack, has good sound and has buttons to adjust the
frequency and power. Only problem is it's mono. If that isn't a problem
 it
 is also a good choice.
Ramsey Electronics makes good hobby units but they are only sold as kits.
For about $300 there is a company from Canada called Wavemach which makes
 a
decent unit as well and for an extra $35 the manufacturer will add buttons
to adjust the frequency, and from what I understand, the power as well.
I could go on for quite awhile listing them but here is the point where
 they
 start getting pricey.

no sound! Does this mean that the problem is not really on the speaker but
on the settings? Or on the wires? Jacks? I am not a sound expert. Can you

Hi. I'm not sure if I can explain my problem clearly. Here it is.

I have 2.1 speakers on my PC. Now, the left side isn't functioning. I've
tried a little investigation/experiment hoping to fix this, but got no
success. I've checked all the settings I know with its driver/software
configuration, and found it normal I mean, all the settings I put are
still there such as the left and right volume all set to 50. Now I went
 to
hardware thing. I observed all connections are doing fine but not sure
 if
one of them really is. The left speaker as the suspect, is put on the
 right
socket I don't know how to call it, it is where the right speaker is
connected, the sound was coming out on the left speaker, so I concluded
 that
the left speaker is ok. But when I put the right speaker on the left
 socket,
no sound! Does this mean that the problem is not really on the speaker
 but
on the settings? Or on the wires? Jacks? I am not a sound expert. Can you
help me on this? Anyway, sighted people also use this computer so I'm
guessing their games' music, music from the web pages can also be a
 factor?

 Thank you,

 Jouie
