Re: Studio recorder question:

2008-11-10 Thread Kelly Pierce

don,

What isn't clear in the manual is that it is necessary to select wave view
in the view menu rather than time view. While blind people won't be
looking at wave patterns, former Sound Forge users like myself are used to
selecting pieces of audio with the shift and arrow keys and being able to
enlarge or shrink with the keyboard the increment that is selected. This
is called the zoom ratio. The time view doesn't use the zoom ratio for
selecting text. Realize that in Studio Recorder though shrinking or
expanding the zoom ratio is done with function keys rather than the up and
down arrow keys, which do something else.

Hi Kelly.

Thanks for the info.

Yes I need to subscribe to the list, haven't done that yet.
What I didn't see in the manual was exactly what you described moving the
arrows with the shift key as you would in sound forge or goldwave to move
a marker that may have been improperly placed.

thanks a bunch.

Kelly Pierce wrote:

similar method of adjusting a selection as in Sound Forge. The issue
isn't moving an edit point but changing the parameters of a selection,
which is discussed in the manual.

I adjust selections by going to the beginning or end of a selection
using the control right bracket or control left bracket keys and using
the right and left arrow keys and the shift key.

BTW: Are you familiar with the Studio Recorder mailing list? Details
are on the SR page on the APH website.

Hi Listers.

In studio recorder if you drop markers with the left or right bracket
keys and you find they need to be moved slightly, how is this done?

I read the entire manual and didn't see mention of a way to move a
marker or would you just use scrub at that point?

P.S. does anyone know anything about the Plextalk RE11 remote control
for studio recorder?

I am looking for a remote control unit that I could preferrably use
with all recording software such as goldwave, sound forge stuido
rerecorder etc.

Is this a fantacy?

Hi Anders,

Regarding Winamp the installation is extremely flexible so you can
install as many or as few features as you want and need so Winamp
doesn't have to take up a lot of space. I like Winamp because I like
experimenting with some of the DSP/Effect plug-ins available for Winamp.
I don't have Hal so I don't know how well the Winamp library works with
Hal. Another reason I like to use Winamp is because of the excellent
Window-Eyes scripts now available for Winamp. However if Foobar 2000
meets all of your needs you might like to keep using it. So you have a
lot of options.

Actually i have been using foobar2000 for 4 years now.
However from the beginning it was a really neat and great player.
Though many functions i had in my first version of foobar2000 has been
removed.
For example, you now have to create your own hotkeys for play stop etc.
Now to my question.
Most people seems to use winamp and seems to be very satisfied with it.
But it seems to take up a lot of space though.
Now in the latest version of hal you can use winamp much more flexible
than
before.
The screenreader has got new map files and scripts.
So i am thinking to start using winamp again after 4 years.
There is a streamripper plugin also for winamp.
But why should i use winamp?
More than what i've stated above.
Can the library feature be used?
Such as the shoutcast radio functionality i had in older versions of
winamp.

I think that fuber does handle winamp plugins, so I would say that there's
really not much of a reason to leave for winamp. the library, at least

around 20k plus songs, takes up around 45 megs of ram.

Subject: [friends] ACB Radio Interactive welcomes new broadcasters - come
join us

Are you a blind or visually impaired person, and ever thought of becoming a
broadcaster with ACB Radio Interactive? Well, you can, and what's more it's
easy. During the last year, ACB Radio Interactive has had to comply with
very stringent rules from an organization called Sound Exchange, which
handles copyright matters for the recording companies. This has meant that
we have had to supply, as part of our metadata - and I'll come back to what
metadata is later - artist, title, album and record label. Unfortunately
some of the software that broadcasters used before the introduction of this
somewhat stringent demand, was just not capable of providing all this data,
either at all, or in a useable form.

The team at ACB Radio Interactive have been working hard to find a way of
making the submission of this data easier, and have come to an agreement
with another organization which also handles the copyright, SWCast. This
organization only requires us to send as metadata - yes there's that word
again - artist and title. They do ask that if people can send album name as
well that would be useful, however it is not a requirement, although we at
ACB Radio would prefer people to send that if they have it, simply because
we show details on our own web page.

Okay let's get this term metadata explained. Metadata is text that is
streamed along with your audio, and on many players - especially Winamp, can
show up in the title bar, and also is shown on our web page, thus giving the
listener a way to find out, quite apart from the DJ announcing it, who the
artist is, and what the track title is. Okay, having got that out of the
way, let's continue.

If you've ever thought that you'd like to do a show on ACB Radio
Interactive, all the software that is currently available for broadcasting
is capable of sending the required text, however of course it does mean you
need to put the text in the file, and here again the software has facilities
for you to do this - no, it won't do it all by itself, you do have to enter
the data but hey, most of us know what we're playing and who it's by don't
we? Actually I'll let you into a little secret, there is software out there
that can do most of it for you without too much effort on your part.

Anyway, assuming you can do that, the rest is, as they say child's play.
All you have to do is write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and we'll help you do the
rest, and the ACBRI team will help you get over any problems, and behold!
after an hour's audition - well we have to know if your stream is stable now
don't we? - there you'll be, a DJ on an ever-expanding high quality internet
radio station.

So come on, give it a go. So you've got a good album collection and would
like other people to hear it: now's your chance.

It goes without saying that we very much welcome back broadcasters who were
unable to comply with the Sound Exchange needs

Write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and get broadcasting.

ACB Radio Interactive needs you!!! yes you!!! and you too!!! yes, and you
skulking back there in the cheap seats, so come join us and help us show the
world just how good internet radio can be.

Hi,
This thread enspired me to try Foobar2000, and I have to say I absolutely love
it! I have all my plugins in Foobar from Winamp, and have even replaced some of
them with custom-built Foobar ones which are much better. An example would the
SoundTouch plugin. I also have my broadcasting plugin, EdCast, configured in
Foobar now too. After using Winamp for about 3 years, I never thought anything
would be better, but Foobar2000 is much better for me and it is being updated
all the time. So, I will say to people who think Winamp is the best thing since
sliced bread, give the Foobar2000 0.96 Beta4 a try and see what you think, I
think you will be greatly impressed.

Re: Why winamp?

2008-11-10 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi.

In adition to what other people have said here, the hotkeys that are
built into Winamp are pretty cool. They may seem a bit strange but
when you look at it from using the keyboard it actually makes sense,
especially if you're familiar with using those old tape recorders
back in the day. while in Winamp, the letter x plays a track. c
pauses and unpauses it, b goes to the next song, and the letter z
moves you back a song if you're in a playlist.
obviously the b and z keys won'twork if you have a single song
loaded, but remember, the hotkeys i listed above are in Winamp, no
matter what you're using as far as a screenreader goes. I've never
used Hal so I can't begin to speak on its accessibility but others
might be able to. I can however, say that the Window-eyes scripts
that Jeff Bishop wrote are absolutely supurb and I highly recommend
them. For years I always hoped Window-eyes could have better access
to Winamp and it finally does!

on Tek Talk. It's free.

Does anyone have an audio cd burn program, free or paid, Jaws friendly and
easy to understand and burn music cd's?? Any information appreciated. I
have Windows Media, Roxio and infrareccorder non of which I can use.
Windows Media did burn about 10 discs and will not resume burning. regards,
Don

The one I personally use is Easy CD-DA Extractor from www.poikosoft.com.

accessible are they?

Audio Cleaning Lab wasn't accessible the last time I tried it, and that was a
year or two ago.
