A Non-Liniar Video Editor

2010-01-03 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!

Can someone explain to me what this means? I'm using Video Redo TV Suite
to edit my video and it proudly proclaims for the user to read on the
screen that the software is a "Non-Liniar Video Editor".

Hi Bret and others who have set me suggestions as to how I could listen to
the guitar parts of songs. Although the cords would be helpful, what I
really want to do, is to copy to the best of my ability, what the lead
guitar is doing.

I think the multitrack recorder/player, is what will work for me.

1 John Denver has put out several acoustic versions of his songs.
2 If you are internet savi u can find chord files for guitar. This is
similar to tabliture files but only has chords. It can be a process but
the chords can be read by your screen reader or if you're lucky enough to

No, because what you have is a final compressed track. if you can get
your hands on the master recording then you wil have that option. with
equalization you can enhance certain instruments based on how much that

Re: adobe audition

2010-01-03 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi
I've used Audition for years now but only in the 1.5 version. I use the
scripts and find them very accessible especially with the Multitrack
section. They were written for Jaws 7 but I did manage to install them in XP
into the Jaws 9 and 10 enu setting, but they only appeared to work for me
when in the Jaws settings in the User section, not the All User section.
I didn't find them too good for positioning a file in a track, but for
recording 8 or 4 tracks then editing they were great.
I'm now onto Sonar and although the Audio effects are more limited than in
Audition they work well, especially the time/pitch shift. I believe version
8.5 is better for Audio effects etc. and will find out soon when I purchase
it.
If you can get a copy of Audition 1.5 it may be fairly cheap - certainly
cheaper than the Sonar/Caketalking route - but if you want to keep up to
date then unless someone writes scripts for the Audition v3 or above
versions with their new interface, then you'll be working with an old
technology with older algorithms. They're good so it probably doesn't
matter, but, assuming effects and options get better there will come a time
when it may get left behind a bit.

radio station with which i am involved, i might think of purchasing it if
i thought it was blind friendly, any help will be really appreciated

things.
But I am sure there are much better users of the program on this list who

You can order both CakeTalking and SONAR at Dancing Dots.
CakeTalking costs $289 and works fine with JAWS 10. SONAR has 2
   editions
which they sell for the minimum advertised price. The Producer
Edition

is
$499 and the Studio Edition is $299. They are both excellent but the
Producer Edition comes with a few more soft synthe instruments
including
the Session Drummer 3, more audio effects and more options to
customize some
of the effects also contained in the Studio Edition.

For $99 you can order the Fast Track USB or, for $199, the Fast Track
Pro. Both of these units are high-end audio interfaces/soundcards
that
connect using USB. It's important to have a separate soundcard to
dedicate to
recording and playing back the audio that comes with SONAR.

Lastly, you should make certain that your PC at least meets the
minimum System Requirements for SONAR. See
   http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/CakeTalkingForSONAR.htm for System
Requirements for CakeTalking and a link to the System Requirements for
SONAR.

You can order both CakeTalking and SONAR at Dancing Dots.
CakeTalking costs $289 and works fine with JAWS 10. SONAR has 2
editions
which they sell for the minimum advertised price. The Producer Edition
is
$499 and the Studio Edition is $299. They are both excellent but the
Producer Edition comes with a few more soft synthe instruments including
the Session Drummer 3, more audio effects and more options to
customize some
of the effects also contained in the Studio Edition.

Requirements for CakeTalking and a link to the System Requirements for
SONAR.

To order online, see the link that says: "Order CakeTalking and Related
Accessories Now" which you will find on that same page. For the Fast
Track:

Hi: I play the guitar as well. I am brand new to recording anything and
it is all rather confusing. Anyway, I will watch postings to try and
learn enough to ask questions that might, hopefully, make sense. I have a
Strat Guitar, a computer where I download backing tracks and an amp. I
want to be able to have one headphone cable that would allow me to do
things like play a backing track and practice with the guitar and amp
through the headphones only. Also, then be able to record a combined
track of the backing track and my playing and, perhaps, using a mic, a
vocal. I am thinking of Audacity for multi track recording I guess and I
am not sure about hooking up all the hardware. Also, I don't know much
about midi yet and that is another whole ball of string I have to look
into for adding more color to any recordings. So, you guitar types are
the vanguard and I just wanted to say hi to all on the list and
especially those who use the guitar to do recordings with various
software and hardware including midi features. Thanks and I hope you find
a midi guitar. One of my old instructors had one, sort of, it could be
made to sound like other instruments like an organ or piano when he
played gigs but I have long since lost touch with him. Good luck and hi.

RE: is media center available for XP home?

2010-01-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Windows XP Home and Windows XP Media Center are two different editions of
Windows XP. As far as I know, you can't put Media Center on XP Home; you'd
have to upgrade to Windows XP Media Center. You may be able to find out more
on the Windows XP home page at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-xp/default.aspx, but there seems to
be a lot of Windows Vista and Windows 7 information on that site.

I was told Media Center works great for tuning into and recording TV
programs, and I do have a Windows 7 computer that I see has Media Center.
But my regular computer, which is being repaired, has XP Home and I've been
told Media Center isn't available for XP Home. We're trying to figure out
how the scheduler works in the TV card itself, but I was hoping somehow
Media Center could be used on the XP computer since it seems to be
accessible with Jaws from what I've heard. Just wondered if someone could
verify whether or not it can be used with XP Home.

If not, I could put the card in my Windows 7 computer that has Media Center,
but does anyone know of an easily-accessed TV card I could use with XP for
recording purposes?

Thanks.

A Good Article On Braille Literacy

2010-01-03 Thread Gary King

You can read a good article on Braille literacy by going to
NYTimes.com

and searching for the link Listening To Braille. As you read the article,
you may run across a familiar name. I agree with the article, even though I
was listening to it with text-to-speech instead of reading it with Braille.

Hi,

I have a question. I like the system, but I'm in a crap room, which has a

have had the z2300, do you like the midrange? I've read debates on this
subject, and was curious.

I've noticed on some albums like Some great rewrd, the midrange is shot,
but when ealing with full midrange, I'd guess that a large speaker system
would produce better mids anyway.

Plus, thanks to having toobs puncher my ear drums, I don't have the
sensitivity of hearing I used to enjoy.

Don't want to start a war, just interested in opinions. I've never had the
pleasure of haring this in a large room with good sound dinamics. My room
is roughly the size of a jail cell, and as I said, it has a glass deck

RE: phone question using skype

2010-01-03 Thread Ishtiaq
hi joe,
and a happy new year to you too. I know you've had a lot of replies but
here's my 2 cents worth.
I'm one of the unlucky ones who had problems with total recorder (which was
one of many I tried)
there's a freeware program called Donar MP3 Recorder (you can google it or
use this link: http://www.donarzone.com/)

i needed a solution to record phone calls. i started out thinking it would
be easy to find a skype call recorder that worked reliably, so i planned to
use 'skype out' calls with a skype-specific recorder. i found all the skype
software recorders gave me trouble, so i went back to using my normal phone
line with an inexpensive phone interface that connected to my pc microphone
jack, etc. and used this program (donar) -- it is different from your
requirement, but you can select the audio input with donar, so you should be
able to record your skype calls straight out of the audio card. it's pretty
easy to use, and easy enough to try and discard if it doesn't do what you
want. (and i have found it rock solid).

hope this helps.
cheers,
rashad

I am trying to access the site and to listen to some audio on it with any
success.

This is the website for the franschoek motor museum. If you click on one
of
the vehicles on the the cars section, you will get to the history and
specs

of a certain vehicle. Acfcording to the folks at the museum, there is
supposed to be a start button on which you can hear the specific vehicle
starting up and driving. However, using Jaws 10 I cannot find any start
button there. Jaws only says start flash an end flash. Can someone with
much more technical skills please look at the site and tell me how I can
get

to these audio samples?

Please if possible answer me off list as I do not want to clutter up
things.

Hi: I play the guitar as well. I am brand new to recording anything and it
is all rather confusing. Anyway, I will watch postings to try and learn
enough to ask questions that might, hopefully, make sense. I have a Strat
Guitar, a computer where I download backing tracks and an amp. I want to
be able to have one headphone cable that would allow me to do things like
play a backing track and practice with the guitar and amp through the
headphones only. Also, then be able to record a combined track of the
backing track and my playing and, perhaps, using a mic, a vocal. I am
thinking of Audacity for multi track recording I guess and I am not sure
about hooking up all the hardware. Also, I don't know much about midi yet
and that is another whole ball of string I have to look into for adding
more color to any recordings. So, you guitar types are the vanguard and I
just wanted to say hi to all on the list and especially those who use the
guitar to do recordings with various software and hardware including midi
features. Thanks and I hope you find a midi guitar. One of my old
instructors had one, sort of, it could be made to sound like other
instruments like an organ or piano when he played gigs but I have long
since lost touch with him. Good luck and hi.

No, because what you have is a final compressed track. if you can get your
hands on the master recording then you wil have that option. with
equalization you can enhance certain instruments based on how much that
track was in the fore front.

is all rather confusing. Anyway, I will watch postings to try and learn
enough to ask questions that might, hopefully, make sense. I have a Strat
Guitar, a computer where I download backing tracks and an amp. I want to be
able to have one headphone cable that would allow me to do things like play
a backing track and practice with the guitar and amp through the headphones
only. Also, then be able to record a combined track of the backing track and
my playing and, perhaps, using a mic, a vocal. I am thinking of Audacity for
multi track recording I guess and I am not sure about hooking up all the
hardware. Also, I don't know much about midi yet and that is another whole
ball of string I have to look into for adding more color to any recordings.
So, you guitar types are the vanguard and I just wanted to say hi to all on
the list and especially those who use the guitar to do recordings with
various software and hardware including midi features. Thanks and I hope you
find a midi guitar. One of my old instructors had one, sort of, it could be
made to sound like other instruments like an organ or piano when he played
gigs but I have long since lost touch with him. Good luck and hi.

Does a midi guitar exist? If so, can anyone give me the name of the
company or its web site?

Many thanks, Vicky

High Joe,
Yes it is, I use it at the radio station that I work for too as well.
The computer at work, is running Windows XP pro and Jaws 9.
I use the software to produce adds to air on the mane station and also the
sister station that we have on am.

I haven't had any problems with it at all!
Hope this helps.
My best regards.
 John.

Re: Is it possible?

2010-01-03 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

High Vicky,
Yes you can do that.
But you will need some kind of a multitrack audio editing software to do
this.
Adobe Addition is one of the peaces of multitrack audio editing software
that can do this for you.

I know this because I use it all the time on my job, it works grate!
You may also want to check in to Gold Wave and Sound Forge.
I am told that they can do this for you to as well.
But to be honest, I never used Gold Wave and or Sound Forge, so I cannot
verify this for you.

Good luck!
My best regards.
 John.

Is it possible to either be able to listen to or record just the voice and
guitar from my CDS of John Denver? I feel I could do a much better job of
picking out songs, if I wasn't distracted by other instruments.

Many thanks! Vicky

RE: Is it possible?

2010-01-03 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello Victoria, unfortunately no, it isn't possible. The only thing you
could possibly do is cancel out the vocals, however this doesn't always work
because what it does is cancel out the centre channel. Depending on how the
original song was recorded, you will get different results. Since the song
has been mixed down to 1 track, you will not be able to get just the vocals
and guitar. Hope that helps.
