The Origin Of This Is A Journey In To Sound
Hi. This morning I was listening to TripleJ where they played the album by Gourtier called Like Drawing Blood. On it was a track which used a number of audio voice samples and one of them was something that's been used on other records. A British guy saying This is a journey in to sound (Etc.). Does anyone know the origin of this sample? Rregards, Adrian. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Thanks Robert and Time I'll follow up your help. Good suggestions. Gordon -Original Message- From: tim cumings Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 1:34 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Sennheiser PC 160 Microphone headset Gordon you need a headset with a condenser mic which runs on phantom power, probably 12 to 48 volts. I'd call some place like bsw or full compass and ask them what they would recommend based on your current equipment. On Wed, 6 Jul 2011 23:59:12 +0100, G. McFarlane wrote: Hi Tim Thanks for this. I'm in a peculiar position with headsets. I keep buying them and then finding they don't work well with my mixers. I have an Alesis multimix and a Behringer xnix. I bought 2 Bayer DT109s a while back and they were not loud enough. Even with a mike preamp as they were so quiet the preamp just made them hissy. They were not cheap and so when I heard how good the Sennheiser ones were I bought them with the results mentioned previously. They need a 5v current from what they are plugged into, usually a computer or voice recorder, something missing from a mixer which will only give phantom power. I need something that will give me a good loud clear signal - someone else has suggested that I could try the Sennheiser HMD 280 pro as it has a lower impedance. Someone else says I need a mixer with a higher gain option for mikes. It's beginning to get expensive without any real certainty that it will work. Thanks again. There's boudn to be a mixer and headset combination which will give professional recording possibilities. They sound great when I plug them into my Olympus DM5 and the mike works well. However when I plug the mike into my mixer I get absolutely nothing. I have converters from 3.5 to the quarto jack, this does not work either. As they’re going into the line in socket, I then tried an industry standard mike preamp, still nothing, just hiss. The signal isn’t getting through although adding my Dm5 into the mix by plugging the mike into it first andd then routing it through the mike preamp into the mixer and it does work. Ideally I wish to use both headset mikes to record interviews through my mixer to the computer. I should also say I’ve tried a number of converters from 3.5 to quarto jack, mono and stereo. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can get a signal into my mixer. Perhaps you know of a particular converter/adaptor which will allow the mike’s great signal to hit the mixer. Thanks. RE: suggestions on olympus players
My new favorite 1 is the LS-7. I mean, the DM-4 is cool for what it's worth I guess with it having text to speech, speech recognition and the daisy player, but the LS-7 is cheaper, and it is more studio like. It records in studio quality too. It can go up to 96KHZ 24 bit.Where as the DM-4 and 2 and the new DM-620 only go up to DVD quality. 48KHZ 16 bit. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Robert doc Wright Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 7:46 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Although I'm not familiar with the recording you mentioned, I can say that, at the dawn of stereophonic sound on phonograph records, London Records released a recording called A JOURNEY into stereophonic sound. I'd have to play it to be sure but I think the narrator opened the recording by saying: This is a journey into stereo sound. I don't know if this is the true origin of the sample, but it's my best guess. Assuming I'm correct, the recording was an LP, two sides, which took the listener to many sites, such as the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. I have it on a cd I made, consisting of various stereo demos. Perhaps you can search for it. Maybe you can find a copy. It's more than I can tackle to send it to the list. Re: Adjusting the volume
OK, with Winamp, what happens when you hit the down arrow key? That should lower the volume of the music without changing the volume of your screen reader. You may need to hit it a few times since the amount the volume is lowered is pretty small. If it changes both the volume of your music and the volume of your screen reader then there's a few configuration settings we can look at. Re: Adjusting the volume
I don't know of one myself. I'd suggest checking with Google or waiting to see if anyone else can point you at a tutorial or a podcast. In the mean time, I'd suggest looking through the JAWS documentation for Winamp. There should be some suggestions on how to use Winamp, as well as the list of JAWS keystrokes that work with winamp. I know it isn't much, but I'm sure it'll get you started. If you're a Window Eyes user, I know Window Eyes has some set files for Winamp, so there should also be some associated documentation there as well. Re: Adjusting the volume
Use the up and down arrow to control Winamp's volume. However, you must have Winamp's output set to direct sound. If it's set to wave out, it will probably lower your screen reader's volume along with the music. Go to Winamp preferences with control+P. Go to output, and make sure it's on direct sound. This will let you lower the music volume without affecting screen reader volume. At least it does with Jaws. - Original Message - From: Adrien Collins adriencollins22...@googlemail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 3:40 PM Subject: RE: Adjusting the volume Hi Bob Ok thanks for this, I have just replied to Christopher's message with full details. I am now considering the Replay Capture Suite from Applian Technologies for my Windows 7 Home Premium system. Has anyone used the entire suite of programs and found any accessibility problems? RE: Adjusting the volume
Hi Yes it works, I can lower the volume in winamp using the up and down keys. Regards Adrien -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dave Scrimenti Sent: Friday, July 08, 2011 12:08 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Adjusting the volume Use the up and down arrow to control Winamp's volume. I know how to alter the volume of my screenreader and am not sure how to alter the volume of winamp. The other option is for me to use speakon of course. RE: Adjusting the volume
It is fairly easy to use. Yu can use z to go back. C to pause. V to stop. B to go forward. I Uusually just keep the main window and the playlist window open. There are shortcut keys for opening and closing windows in it but you can also alt and down arrow to the nelsoft winamp sub menu and right arrow into it. Make sure jus the main window and playlist window are checked. You can open tracks in the playlist window. Control n wipes it clean. Also remember if your in the main window by accident it will remove all the other tracks and just have that one. You can go between windows with control tab. Also r is for repeat and s is for shuffle. Control shift t gives the time remaining and control shift r randomizes the whole playlist. This should be good enough to get you started. Also make sure it is in classic skin or jaws won't read it right. This can be changed in preferences with control p and then down to skins tab and make sure it is on classic then hit enter. Reverb, Echo and Goldwave
Hi, I am making what I hope will be a piano cd. I was thinking I would like to have just a bit of echo on it. I am not sure what the difference in Goldwave is between echo and reverb, but, if I have tried all the settings correctly, there is too much echo and too much delay. Are there any plug ins that would give just a very slight echo so I don't have to get one of these psychodelic sounding things? What's the difference between echo and reverv anyway? Thanks. Re: Reverb, Echo and Goldwave
Others may have other definitions of reverb and echo; to me, echo is that slap sound (like when you make a sound and you hear it bounce back); reverb (to me) is a sound much like when you're in a big room. I don't know if my descriptions are totally accurate, but that's as good as I can come up with for now--grin!
