RE: Winamp, more help, please!

2011-12-12 Thread Walter
Hi. Yeh, I would have thought so but I only got to the configuration
options once but have not been able to replicate it. When I get the
opportunity, I'll uninstall and start again but my experience so far with
Winamp tells me the programme is a waiste of time. Actually all I really
want to do with the programme is have a huge playlist containing thousands
of tracks and play them continually in a random fashion. I would use VLC
for .AVI movies. Walter.

I am not a jfw user so I don't know about the scripts. As to the
audio meter, I haven't had a chance to do some work with it yet,
school and personal obligations. However, there is a nice little
blurb about it in the help file. Some of the combo boxes were hard to
read the headers from, but maybe they don't have to have headers and
are context sensative. So the short answer is, no I haven't had time
to play with it. Seems pretty usable though from the brief overview I
gave it the other day. If you're a window-eyes user, it's important
to reclass the custom controls in the meter window of the control
properties so that they are buttons, saves you a keystroke or two.

Ok there is a simple fix to this. When in win amp only have the main window
and playlist window checked. From the main window control tab to the
playlist window. Hit control n if there is stuff there already. This will
clear it. Add all the tracks you want with the l command. When done either
put it on shuffle by hitting the letter s or just randomize the list with

Walter.

Well, none of that should happen. heheh. I've had trouble configuring
plugins with non-standard interfaces. THe winamp metroska/mkv one seems
particularly suspect and only works about half the time anyway. I'm getting
to the point of resigning to the need to use something like VLC for movies,
but I don't really know if that's a concern for you or not. I haven't tried
the crossfader plugin..maybe I'll give it a go and see for myself..but the
spacebar should definitely activate the configure button under just about
all circumstances.

Hi. It is difficult to say. It seems to crash if I do something it
 doesn't
like, there's no patern. I installed the crossfade plugin and have
 selected
that plug in but each time I go to the configure button and press the
 space
bar, after it thinks about it, it asks me if I want to send an error
 message
or not. I' say no then I get the message the programme is not responding
and do I want to end it, once I say yes to get out of it, I am asked again
if I want to send a error message. Maybe you are right, I need to
 uninstall
and then reinstall. The version Ihave now is the standard but maybe I
should select the full version next time. By the way, when I see the
configuration button, I've tried various ways to activate it without
 success. Just hitting the
Space bar, pressing the enter key, using the key command Alt+C, I've even
Routed PC to JAWS and used the mouse keys, again, still crashed. Walter.

Hello Walter. Long-time winamp user here, and I find the programme to be
extremely stable. Sometimes though something does seem to happen to the
programme and the only thing that will fix it is a reinstall. This
 happened
to me a few times after getting v5.6 or something, but after installing to
the latest full version I haven't had this problem. Anyway, out of
curiosity, what sort of errors are you getting?

Hi Barry. Thanks for taking the time to explain this. I'm having
 trouble
getting the hang of Winamp, I find it crashes a lot and I get a error
message. Once I become more comfortable using the thing then I will
 venture
into the plug in thing. How and where do I install this plug in? What
folder does it go into or is it self install? I appreciate your
 patients.
 Walter.

 Hi Walter,

You need to install the SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading Output plugin. You
 can
get it from the Winamp site at
 http://www.winamp.com/plugin/sqrsoft-advanced-crossfading-output/32368

Once installed, you will need to open the Winamp preferences with ctrl+p,
arrow up or down until you get to output, tab to the list
of choices, arrow to the Sqrsoft plugin and press enter. In output, you
 can
also tab to configure where you can adjust various
 crossfading and

Hi folks!

Normally this problem wouldn't effect me as my Squeezebox Boom and

put past them but its seems a different matter with my Windows and Mac
computers.

I'm trying to listen to the Radio 2UE audio stream at
http://www.2ue.com.au, I find the Listen now link and click on it, a
player window pops up and that's about as far as i get, anyone got any
suggestions?

This happens on every computer I've tried it on and I've tried it on 5,
3 Windows machines and 2 Macs.

Hi Dane,

The direct URL to the stream for 2UE is:

http://streaming.mytalk.com.au/2ue?MSWMExt=.asf

Another option is to go to

www.australianliveradio.com

Where they have a direct link to the stream. I hope this helps.

Regards Steve.

Question for Owners of the Kindle Fire?

2011-12-12 Thread Saylien Brown

Hello Guys,

I'm strongly considering getting a Kindle Fire. Need to know how
accessible it is to the blind community. Also does it come with the
VoiceOver feature that reads both the menus and ebooks?

Had to send back my Kindle DX a few months ago because Amazon for
some strange reason left out the VoiceOver feature.

If someone owns the Kindle Fire, can you please give some feedback on
how accessible it is?

Thanks.

2011-12-12 Thread Walter
Hi. I don't know much about this product at all and don't possess one and
don't plan to but I did hear a report on a BBC radio programme that was
aimed at the blind. It seems that more and more authors are not allowing
their eBooks to carry voice over and the reason seems to be, these same
authors make a load of money from audio books and if the voice over facility
was available on eBooks then they would lose out on sales of audio books.
Before you decide to invest I would suggest you go to the Amazon's site and
see just how many of the books you would like to purchase are voice over
enabled. Sorry my contribution is limited but I thought I should pass on
the little I know. Walter.

2011-12-12 Thread Saylien Brown

Thanks for sharing this info.

Well I do enjoy listening to some audio books on my Kindle, but most
of the NY Times Bestsellers aren't released in audio book. The
voiceover feature allows me to listen to them, without having to wait
4 - 6 months for an audio book.

Haven't come across an ebook or magazine that has disabled this
voiceover feature (I buy everything through amazon,) but if I do, you
best believe the author will get an ear full from me.

Hi Dane,

I pressed enter on the link which reads
On Now - Listen Live
and after the player window popped up, it started playing. Perhaps there is a
plugin or something you need to install. Did it
prompt you to install anything?

Thanks,

Re: SProblems playing stream

2011-12-12 Thread Dane Trethowan
Well that didn't work but thanks to the help of an audio engineer I've found a
far more usable solution, I'll be detailing this in a separate message.

This way you can bypass all those annoying pop-up windows, the streams just
work on whatever system you want to use.
