OzTech How to Stream Digital Media From Your Windows 7 PC | PCWorld

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!

I'm setting up another Windows machine for someone who wants to stream
media files from the machine to DLAN compatible devices, in particular a
Surround-Sound Receiver.

I'm no expert when ot comes to the DLNA side of things and I know this
topic does come up on the list from time to time, another Google search
was in order to see if I could discover any new information on the
topic, and low and behold, I found what seems to be quite a nice
tutorial on the subject, thought others on the list may find it
interesting, helpful and instructive.

audio source to mp3 output

2014-11-08 Thread Joe Giovanelli
Hello Listers,

I don't believe I've seen this covered. I have quite a few minidisks and wish
to copy them as MP 3 files. A number of devices can be used to do this, such as
the Victor Reader, second generation.

This is fine, but I'd like to take this a step further. My disks have perhaps
12 radio shows on them. My hope is to play such a disk through and have files
created by way of silence between tracks.

I'd sincerely appreciate your thoughts. Thank you very much.

Joe Giovanelli

Accessible Pandora Clients

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Just in case some didn’t know, there are some very good clients around that
make Pandora accessible and easy to use if you’d rather not navigate the web
site.

For Windows try the Hope Pandora client at http://q-continuum.net/hope/

For Mac try the Mus Pandora Client available from the Mac Apps Store.

If you have an iPhone then go to the Apps Store and lookup Pandora, the App
itself seems to work rather well with Voiceover.

Tapin Radio crashes when doing a search

2014-11-08 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hey guys

As the subject line says, as of this past week for whatever reason,
Tapin Radio has suddenly started to crash on me when performing a search
by typing something into the edit box on the main screen. For example,
when I type a station's call letters, a dialogue suddenly appears and
says, Tapin radio failed to load presets, would you like to download
them from our website? there are yes, no, and cancel buttons. when I
press yes, a download button appears but when i press it, the program
crashes. When i answer no, another dialogue appears and says, couldn't
load presets, pre-mature end of document, with an ok button. I've tried
completely uninstalling and re-installing the program with both the free
and paid versions and it still exhibits this behavior. I've been using
Tapin for ages now and have never seen this. I wrote to the support
folks for Tapin Radio and haven't received any kind of response, so I
figured i'd ask here. The only major change I made lately is that I
installed a newer version of Nod 32 antivirus on my machine, so I wonder
if the 2 aren't fighting with each other? So if anyone knows if
there's a fix for this, I'd appreciate it. I miss using Tapin to listen
to internet radio!

Thanks!

Chris

Re: audio source to mp3 output

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
I think some of the Olympus models might be able to help you there if you’re
thinking of doing the job in an automated way but then again the question comes
up, is it really worth spending a couple of hundred dollars just for that when
you could say connect your Minidisc to a computer’s line in and use the Total
Recorder software package which looks for silent passages and can perform
custom options, even the Professional Audio edition is only $35.

Of course using Total Recorder also means you have more flexibility in how MP3
files - if you want to use that format - are created, you have a very
reasonable editor included if you purchase the Professional version etc, take a
look at the web page at http://totalrecorder.com

There are a lot of people out there still using Winamp but the time will come -
if it hasn’t come already - when those people are going to run into
difficulties.

I’ve been playing with WMP for the last few days and I’m quite surprised at the
flexibility of the player, in fact I’d go so far as to say its been just about
a closely guarded secret smile.

Sure, WMP has some annoying problems in my opinion, its not very flexible when
it comes to playing Audio formats such as FLAC but for most people I’d imagine
this isn’t a problem and in any case, if you’re that concerned about playing
Lossless formats then you can use software to convert your FLAC collection to
Lossless Windows Media Audio.

My favourite player across platforms is VLC which just keeps getting better.

Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
In the beginning - a very long time ago - I too used Nero but I found that it
had problems when reading CD’S so a couple of people who are in the “Ripping
Game”, then put my on to Exact Audio Copy which was written by a computer
programmer who loves his music.

The reason he wrote Exact Audio Copy was because of the fact that most CD
Rippers don’t read the content of a CD byte for byte, they skip over errors on
the CD, they don’t try and recover from reading CD errors and so on.

Fortunately there are several utilities around that are equal or come close to
what Exact Audio Copy does, for Windows there’s Easy CD Converter and for the
Mac there’s XLD and Max, others for LYNUX of course.

Cd Ripping Software, What's Good And What's Not?

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi again!

I was prompted to post to the list thanks to a question I received via private
eMail which wanted to know some of the features that made Exact Audio Copy
stand out from the crowd of CD Rippers.

One of these features is the Accuraterip function, more information on this can
be found at http://www.accuraterip.com

In a nutshell, if your CD Ripping software can make use of this then you’re on
the right track and you shouldn’t have any difficulty with Ripping CD’S though
copying music CD’s is another matter but first things first.

Easy CD DA Extractor or Easy CD Converter as its now known is another CD Ripper
that utilises Accuraterip, I’m sure if I did a Google search I could turn up
more Cd Ripping software for Windows that uses the accurate rip technology.

Why is accurate rip so important in a CD Ripper? Read the short article at the
above link for further information.

Getting Audigy ZS 2 soundcard to work

2014-11-08 Thread Dan Kerstetter
Is it possible to use an SB Audigy ZS 2 soundcard in a windows 7 64 bit
machine?

When I had the card installed and booted up the computer, I got an error
message saying that windows was unable to install device drivers for the
device. I then went to the creative support site and downloaded a driver
package which I installed; however, when I rebooted after the installation I
received a message saying that the drivers could not be loaded for the
soundcard.

According to the Creative web site the software I downloaded was supposed to
work on Windows 7 64 bit.

I've since uninstalled the drivers and now when I try reinstalling them I
receive an error message stating that I have previously installed drivers
for this device and to reboot and try again; but, of course, it doesn't
work.

I would appreciate any suggestions or answers anyone might have.

Thanks.

Dan

Re: Tapin Radio crashes when doing a search

2014-11-08 Thread Steve Pattison

Hi Chris and all,

Chris, thanks for your message. Unfortunately I don't have a solution to
your problem but I'm having a similar problem with TapinRadio that
started recently. Your message helped confirm the fact that I'm not the
only one having this problem.

For me though I now get similar messages to you when I try to go into
the Stations menu. Tapinradio crashes for me when I do this and gives me
the same message to what you get. I'm using ESET Smart Security as my
virus checker and recently upgraded to version 8 of this program. I
don't know if this is related to the TapinRadio problem or not though.

Hoping anyone having this problem finds a solution eventually.

Regards Steve.

I’ve been playing with WMP for the last few days and I’m quite surprised at
the flexibility of the player, in fact I’d go so far as to say its been just
about a closely guarded secret smile.

Sure, WMP has some annoying problems in my opinion, its not very flexible
when it comes to playing Audio formats such as FLAC but for most people I’d
imagine this isn’t a problem and in any case, if you’re that concerned about
playing Lossless formats then you can use software to convert your FLAC
collection to Lossless Windows Media Audio.

My favourite player across platforms is VLC which just keeps getting better.

Thanks Dane, I think I may have a go at this. I've ignored WMP up to now,

 Hi!

I'm setting up another Windows machine for someone who wants to stream media
files from the machine to DLAN compatible devices, in particular a
 Surround-Sound Receiver.

I'm no expert when ot comes to the DLNA side of things and I know this topic
does come up on the list from time to time, another Google search was in
order to see if I could discover any new information on the topic, and low
and behold, I found what seems to be quite a nice tutorial on the subject,
thought others on the list may find it interesting, helpful and instructive.

Re: Tapin Radio crashes when doing a search

2014-11-08 Thread Charles Krugman
I have had the same problem over the past few weeks. I can't get it to play
at all and can't browse stations in different genres. I am using the version
for Windows 8.1. I also tried to contact them several times with no response
and am not sure where they are based but I think its in Europe.

Hey guys

As the subject line says, as of this past week for whatever reason,
Tapin Radio has suddenly started to crash on me when performing a search
