I certainly hope they've gotten rid of that awful way it notifies you for
updates! Currently..if it prompts you for an update, it won't let you opt
out of it (am sure it can be done)..but as far as I've been able to tell, a
blind or visually impaired person cannot do it; the only way to get rid of
it is to just reboot the computer!

Subject: Sirius Online Question

Hi all. After signing up for Sirius yesterday, I learned that to listen
online I had to press a button and listen for a series of numbers, which I
then had to copy. Ok, inconvenient, but workable. However, today when
pressing the button to make the numbers speak, I hear nothing, even after an

extended wait. This is the case for three different computers.

I phoned Sirius, only to be told that there was no way that the problem
could be their fault. They claim it must be a windows issue and would not
discuss it further. When I asked the tech to at least try the button to
ensure that it worked for him, he said he couldn't do that because he had no

speakers on his computer.

So my question. Does anyone use sirius online? If so, do you have a problem
getting the number sequence to speak?

Thanks for any and all info.

RE: Need help with Sirius Stiletto 2

2008-05-17 Thread Barry Campbell
Sirius does have an audio capsha for it's online service. I would suggest
that if you need to do something different with the steletto and siriuus
then contact sirius and ask them to put in a ticket to the tech support. I
was one of the many who discussed the capsha option with sirius when they
launched the online service 2 years ago. They were very blind friendly when
it came to access.

Hi everyone. I just set up a Sirius account today over the phone with my
new Stiletto 2. I'm hoping someone out there has this radio and is using it
successfully. The first problem I am having is that I cannot log into my
account because there is a graphical capcha. I have already created the
account with the customer service rep over the phone, who helped me set up a
username and password, but now that I am trying to log in, the capcha is a
huge barrier.

I realize I may not be able to interact online with Sirius, but is anyone
aware of blind podcasters who might have done an audio review of this radio
so that I can become more familiar with it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

hi All,

I have been a member of audible.com for some time. I don't
have any trouble
getting books, but I do have a couple of questions.
Whenever I upgrade
winamp, it takes over trying to play those files. It can't
play them. The
only way I have found around this is to unselect all
filetypes in Winamp,
which defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.
Does anyone know
what filetypes I need to uncheck so that Winamp won't try
and play my
audible files?

My other question concerns the portability of these files.
I do not have an
mp3 player at this time, so I have been burning them onto
audio cd. The
problem is that I often get this horrible crackling noise in
the disk. Many
of my disks are impossible to listen to. I do have a cd
player that will
play mp3's. Can I convert the audible files to mp3 without
burning them
onto audio first? I could then get several books on one
disk, and that
would be quite handy. I'm open to ideas. Thanks.

blinks to contact Sirius to get this rectified; I spoke to a
cooperative young lady, who flagged our conversation, to give
Sirius' Tech Support a heads up! Be very courteous with Sirius
personnel and they try to be forthcoming! I put this young lady
through the paces of listening to my screen reader, over the speaker
phone and I believe she got the message! One other thing to watch out
for with Sirius: They will charge your credit card, for renewal of
your account, sometimes, without even alerting you that they are doing
it!! It happened to me, a couple of months ago!

 Good Luck, Everyone,

 Hello everyone:
If you listen to sirius Satellite radio online you will not be able
to utilize it as of this morning if you are blind. They have instituted a
autocaptcha similar to google mail before we gained access. I have
contacted their customer service and a nice gentleman wrote up my
complaint and contacted their tech support and they will be working on
a fix for the problem. I refered them to Google mail's fix for us
blind guys and gals as well as Pay pals fix. I suggest that anyone
with a sirius account contact them

 The number is

Please pass this on to anyone who has Sirius radio

 Found this on

 http://www.kurthanson.com/archive/news/030706/index.asp

the magazine is called RAIN, Radio And Internet Newsletter.

God, I hope this isn't true.

From Digital Music News: XM Satellite Radio routinely touts it
commercial-free radio channels, giving it a major edge over
 terrestrial radio. Now, an

 xm satellite radio

interesting situation involving Clear Channel could force commercials
onto a number of XM stations.

Most recently, the company pointed to an upcoming change as part of a
10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. XM noted that
 'commercial

advertisements will resume on music programming currently provided to
us by Clear Channel,' part of a 'dispute we had with Clear Channel
 relating

 clear channel

to our respective rights and obligations' following a '1998 investment
 in us.'

Clear Channel reportedly controls about four channels, a small
percentage of the 160-station XM dial. But consumers could become
 confused by the development,

especially if one of the Clear Channel-programmed stations happens to
be a favorite. Whether that poisons the well is speculative, though
 certainly XM

is unhappy about the programming change.

Meanwhile, the development could be an attempt by Clear Channel to
sabotage the commercial-free competitive advantage of XM, part of

 digital music news

an intensifying battle between terrestrial and satellite companies.

To Gary and others:
Again I say if you don't like the way ACB Radio is operating you can do
one of the following

1. Volenteer to help out. ACB Radio is not only about broadcasting, we
could always use help in web design, program ideas, obtaining sponsorship
donations, Information technology assistance.

2. Offer constructive criticism to the director and the staff utilizing the
ACB Radio survey on the homepage or sending email to

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

3. Sending letters or emails to the ACB President and the Board of
publications

It is easy to sit on a list and bitch about something you don't like but
it is better to do something about it...

In otherwords Crap or get off the pot

These above is not necessarily the opinion of ACB, ACB radio, nor its staff
or directors

For those of you who sit there and complain about not getting something

The following is a message from the sponsor of the PC-Audio list,

We're very pleased to advise that on October 29 starting at noon US Central
Time, Julia and I will be hosting a poker party on All in Play. If you've
never visited, All in Play is a very accessible online gaming site, with
games that are also attractive and fun for sighted people to play.

Our poker party will run for 24 hours, have six tables, and will be a great
way for us to meet our listeners and readers as well as having a lot of fun.
You'll be awarded 10 exploding chips for this special party.

If you've used All in Play before but your membership has expired, fear not,
as long as you have the software on your PC, you can play! If you've never
used the site before, you might like to head on over to All in Play At
http://www.allinplay.com and get a 14 day free trial so you've had a bit of
practice before the big day.

To give you a feel for what All in Play is like, we've done a quick audio
demo for you, which is available over on http://www.MosenExplosion.com.

Keep visiting MosenExplosion.com for more details as the day gets closer. It
should be a blast! The URL to participate in the party will be posted there.

RE: Need Help with CDEx and ASPI Drivers

2005-10-16 Thread Barry Campbell
Kelly, I found this information on the CDEX website which may help you out.

If you have Software or Hardware from Adaptec, you can obtain the drivers
from the Adaptec site. If you have not any of that, you can use a utility
(both
for Windows NT and Window 98) named ASPI_ME, although it is officially
banned by Adaptec, it is still available from some WEB sites (take a look at
this
site, and search for aspi_me). However, there is a time lock in this
utility, so you need to set back your system clock to somewhere in 1998 when
starting
ASPI_ME. Afterwards, you can set back your system clock to the current data.
Furthermore, you can look at one of the following resources:

Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem with CDEx. I loaded it a couple days ago,
and it seemed to work fine, but after I started it again a bit later, I got
the following message:

Native NT SCSI Library support is not supported by this operating system.
You have to install ASPI drivers in order to use CDex.

I rebooted the system thinking that might correct the problem, and the
program began working propperly again, or so I thought. Now, whenever I try
ripping a CD, it doesn't look like the program is doing anything. I press
the Cancel button, and the program locks up.
Does anyone know how to correct this problem? Alternatively, is there a
site where I can grab these ASPI drivers?
I think the drivers I originally had were erased, without my permission,
when I installed the ImToo DVD Audio Extractor program a few months ago.
Thanks.
