 Hi Petro,

Two accessible download managers are GetRight available from
www.getright.com and Free Download Manager available from
www.freedownloadmanager.org. GetRight even has some built-in options to
make it work better with screen readers. I hope this helps.

 Two more sources for transmitters
 http://www.ontheair3.com/#bc-100
This site sells AM transmitters for under a hundred dollars.

 http://www.decade.ca
Decade is a Canadian company that sells FM transmitters that are
ready to go on air out of the box. Frequency is by a series of dip
switches at the back of the unit.

Another site that you may want to visit is called Hobby tron. Their
ttransmitters are in kit form, but they will assemble it for you for
 a small fee.

Here is my set up and what it's consisted of.
I have a Dell desktop that is running Windows XP service pack 2.
 I am running Jaws 8.1.
I also have a SONY cdr/rw drive whitch came with the system.
I didn't like the Mother Board sound, so I ordered and installed a Sound
Blaster Odyssey 4 Series molty media controler sound card.
My other equipment is a vintage Fisher 500-s stereo reciever a JVC tape
deck, a JVC turn table, and a Peavey vacuum tube mic preamp.
My preamp is hooked up in between the reciever's record out and sound
 card.
I have downloded many types of software such as D Power Amp, and others.
But none of them work with Jaws.
Could any one tell me whare to look for software to perform this task that
is very user frendly with Jaws?
 Thanks a hole bunch.

if you click on the 5 meg file it will come down well before the bigger

anyways, theres no need to stop the other file.
if you are sharing files, this helps as people don't like leechers, and
chances are that none of your files will complete as they just ban you and

If you can't be sure if you have normal mode checked by reading the view

in normal mode, and it should stay that way, unless you press F8 or F9. If
you do, pressing F7 again will return you to normal mode.

When I bring up the view menu, the first item reads normal mode F7,
checked, and, since I have a braille display, it shows x to the right of

is, indeed, checked.

Would you send along the instructions on how to close the

Thanks, Dana. Bob Batchelor sent instructions on how to close RP's message
center, which is a big help. Regarding normal view, I can't get JAWS to
indicate whether or not it's checked. I click on it in the view menu and the
menu closes. I go back to find it isn't checked. Is it another aspect of RP
that requires sighted assistance?

Again, many thanks.
- Original Message -
From: Dana S. Leslie [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Adrian,

I recommend disabling the Realplayer Message Center. Unfortunately, I
disabled mine so long ago, I don't remember how I did it. But, in the
Preferences tree view, scroll down to Message center, and see what you can
find about disabling it.

In the main player window, in the View menu pull-down, make sure Normal mode
is checked, and everything else is unchecked.

I recommend using RP for ONLY those media types that will not play in WMP or
Winamp. So, under the Media Types section of preferences, make sure that
only Real Media types are checked. But, unfortunately, since the media types
selection list is largely inaccessible, you will either need sighted
assistance for this, or you will have to go through the complicated
procedure that Gene asner has outlined elsewhere. (Let me know if you need
me to go through this for you.)

Finally, I don't recommend using RP's My Library. Any Real Media on your
hard drive, you can browse to, right click on, and, from there, choose Play,
burn, or whatever you wish. As for Real Media streams, the Favorites menuing
system within RP, is quite accessible, and I recommend using it in
preference to any of the stream selection methods built into RP. Indeed, you
can copy RP favorites from where they are stored on your hard drive, to some
more convenient folder, and use them whenever you want to listen to an RM
stream, rather than starting RP, clicking on Favorites, etc. If you just
click on the Favorites shortcut, wherever you have moved it to, it will
automatically start RP with the relevant stream playing. Then, you only need
ctrl-P and ctrl-S, to pause or stop the stream, respectively.

Well, that ought to be enough to get you started. Let me know if you have
any specific problems.

Blessed Be,

Dana

I would like to have the song title and artist info in the track list,
 instead of Track 1...etc.
Any other burning software out there that will do this , and maybe for
 free?
I know this sounds real cheap, but have some tough times at the moment.
I should be able to get Nero 6 in awhile, but till then , any suggestions?
I am currently using Nero Express.
 Thanks,
 Morey Worthington

If I check another recording source, it no longer records from line in; if
I mute the playback volume for line, it has no effect at all.

I'm trying to record from a line-in jack on a computer. I've got the
 patch

 as
one would expect. But no matter where I adjust the line-in volume in

the save overdriven result. What would I be doing wrong here?

 Hi Linda.

I use windows media player to rip all of my music and then load it into a
great music management program called Audigen. Audigen is supplied by a
company called Red Chair Software and costs a measly $15. For that you
 get
a completely accessible interface and the ability to browse your
 collection
by artist, album, track or genre as well as being able to search, create
playlists, edit ID3 tags and produce reports in a variety of formats.

As far as portable players are concerned, I have a Creative Zen 20GB
 player
with an inline remote control to make it a little easier to operate. The
menus don't wrap on this player, you can have it click for each menu item
and, if you've got a good memory, navigate your music by artist, album or
track. Putting music on the player is a doddle as it's just a windows
explorer looking interface where you can use copy and paste to add music
 to
 your player.

 Regards.

H, I am new to the list. Some of you may recognize my name from other
 tech
lists. Absolutely the most technically challenged person regarding music
 and the PC.

I would like to be able to rip tracks from cd's, organize my music in a
music management program, move it to my MP3 player, and purchase music.
 I
currently have an Ipod mini (big mistake), Anapod Explorer, and the
 Itunes
 scripts.

I purchased version 10 (I believe of Real Player. I thought I read Real
Player supports the Ipod and is user friendly to JAWS.

This story could go on and on. Bottom line, I'm in way over my head and
it's not nearly the leisure activity I had hoped it would be. I'm
 totally
ready to give up on the Ipod and try something else.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

 Best Wishes,

That's an age-old question for just about any trialware that ever
existed. The way it knows about your trial status is by leaving
something behind that it can check on. That could be a cookie, as in a
browser cookie, it could be a record or key in your system's registry,
it could be a hidden file buried somewhere, it could even be a simple
DLL left over in the Windows system directory. Trouble is, unless
you're the program author and know the secret, you may spend the rest
of your life trying to find it and probably never will.

First thing to do is remove the program completely from your computer.

Next thing to do is run a registry clean program such as Microsoft's
regclean. This will remove any keys and junk records from your
registry which may (or not) be related to the program you wish to
re-try. After a good regclean, reboot your system.

Next, try installing the program again. If it still says you've tried
it before, then there's a detection scheme going on that, as I said
before, you may never find and may never be able to defeat. I've even
seen one or two that use your IP address, so if you try and install it
again for another go-round, it knows you tried it once before from
this address and won't let you do so again.

Good luck, although I don't really expect you'll have any, sorry to
 have to say.

Well, it is an iloe and it is supposed to play WMA files. I tried to
sync it last night and got a bunch of MP3 files and stuff but no WMA, so
tried to let it sync some more this morning. Now it doesn't play
anything and I think most of the folders are empty. Am I having fun yet?

There's been a lot of talk about FM transmitters. We're in the world's
worst spot for low-power FM. So with our AM band almost a ghost town, and
with AM probably being just fine for things like audio books, are there
any good AM transmitters out there?

Paul, I have a Real Tech AC97 onboard sound card in this Medion desktop
computer which was purchased approximately three years ago.

I have been absolutely delighted not only with the quality of the sound
from this card but also with the fact that the microphone and aux
volumes are more than adequate, and also with the fact that no hiss is
introduced into the mike circuit by the sound card.

There are none so blind as those who will not see!
Who ever said this was talking about us, though they did not know it at
 the time.
Recently, some have heard fit to write me regarding a message I posted.
Rather than write back on an individual basis, I am answering all, via the
 lists.
List managers, please allow this to post, though it may be consider to be
 to long by some.
1974 saw me in a new reality. I was 18, had my first live in girl friend,
job and two new technological developments, Touch tone telephones and the
 Westinghouse
liquid level indicator. A remarkable device this and only $595.00. We
all know what it does so I need not explain further.
Until the rest of the world wants what we have and use in our vertical
market every day, only then will we get the very best the world has to
 offer!
While I work with some of us, I will never work for any of us! This is to
say that no person who is blind will ever sign my pay check!
I became interested in computers in 1979, attending a junior college,
obtaining my degree in Electronic Data Processing. As this was before the
 onset of
talking computers I used an Opticon lens to read the CRT. screen.
Completing my academic requirements, along with a very bad case of right
 arm tennis
elbow, I took my first job as a Cobol programmer. My training at Maryland
Computer Services brought me in touch with one man who is blind, with
 vision!
1985 found me working for the state of California, again the only blind
programmer in the shop. The XT. had made its debut the previous year and
 I wanted
very much to become involved in the efforts to make it talk. Leaving CPM.
behind, I took an extension course in MSDOS. and again met the man who is
 blind,
with vision. Purchasing an Arctic's Symphonics board and my first version
of Jaws, version 1.0, serial number 27, I got involved! It was quite
 clear
to me and others that the main stream world is where the highest paying,
most sought after jobs are to be found. It was toward this goal that I
 steered
my course. Our world was about to be overwhelmed with a glut of
technological miracles and thus the war began, it is not over yet.
1994 found me as the president of my own software company, Future Vision
Software, INC. I had learned Turbo Pascal by this time and developed five
 Christian
based applications on the open market. Less than 14 months later I found
my programs raped by Christian hackers and placed on a BBS. known as the
 Christian
connection. I was using Jaws version 2.3 for DOS. serial number 0039314 at
this time and quickly became interested in the push toward JFW. The man
 who
is blind, with vision never stopped working. The JFW. development
happened so fast that two years later I was using Windows 98 and JFW. 3.5,
 serial number
JFW-35959. Our talking computer world had turned once again.
Recently, I was privileged to browse a store that boasted of having every
technological device for the blind. They may well be right in doing so,
 though
I cannot imagine why. I heard everything from bill and color identifiers
to 60 series talking cell phones, talking bar code readers, a new device
 known
as a Braille Sense and these are just a few of the high priced highlights.
By the end of year 2007, we will all be able to hold in our hand a device
 not
unlike the communicators used by Captain Kirk and his crew in another show
with vision. Our device has not yet been named and will contain no moving
 parts
and will work by two way voice communication.
Just to sum up, in case you haven't gotten my points. The Shark puts
Peepers to sleep In A Box! I have but one disk and can work on any
 computer system
in the world within five minutes of my arrival. Every time I have tried
to sit on the cutting edge of technology, it hurt my butt! For those who
 fear
the onset of Vista, soon we will hold the entire wealth of information the
world has to offer in our hand! The technology growth curve is imploding
 in
on itself and making faster science fact for all! Explode on this!!!

I've probably got one of the weirdest request you've ever scene. I know
you're a gui-talk list member as I've seen your post there many many

Anyway, I'm writing because perhaps you can help me. I'm having a winamp
problem. No one from the gui-talk list has been able to answer it. I don't
want to go join the winamp list to get a simple answer to a question. So
maybe you know someone who can answer it.
Here it is.
I have about 120 cds in my winamp library. When I press the play button
on
any of them no sound comes out though I think winamp may be trying to play
them. All of the music was playing three weeks ago. So I just can't figure
out the problem. I've pressed control comma and control period to raise
the
volume but nothing happens. Can you get back to me on this. Thanks.

 www.audible.com

You can subscribe to a membership for either one or two books a month. In

I haven't found everything I wanted at Audible, but the selection is quite

Radio - Listen To Dozens Of Stations [4.78M] [Win98/ME/2k/XP] [FREE]
I am a person who likes to try new things every once in a while. When it
comes to media, everybody seems to do it differently. That is why I was
happy to find this little program called Radio. It allows anybody to check
out dozens of stations from around the globe. This is an easy-to-use
Internet radio with recording options. It is built to be a user friendly
and an easy way to listen to radio stations all over the world. It has 26
predefined stations, and a growing list of radio station lists to use for
those 26 channels. You can select by categories, like Country, Hits,
Classical, Rock, Norwegian, etc. You can use this device to record the new
things you might find, as well. After you record a radio session, the
default format is .mp3 and the filename is output.mp3. Simply right-click
the radio interface, select Edit recorded material, and save the file as
any name you choose. Remember to save each file with a different name as
all new recordings will be named output.mp3 and will overwrite previous
recordings. So, feel like expanding your horizons today? Check out Radio
and listen to what somebody else has to say for a while. Hear some new
music you might have never heard before. Expand yourself in the culture of

hi Scot, its 100 percent accessible using hal anyways.
its all keyboard driven, and a lot faster than dare I say roxio and
perhaps Nero.
the layout is a little different first, but after a while you get used to
it.
example, you want to create an audio disk, you choose it from the jobs in
the file menu bar by pressing the alt key to bbring the menu up.
you can then set the recording speed and how many copies etc from the main
window.
then you click on add track button, this will let you browse through the
media you have on your computer that you want to add to the project,
select what you want, and press open.

this will copy the items to a temp directory.
then go back in to the file menu, and select record from there, or you can
press 1 of the function keys think its f6 but it will tell you the short
cut when you land on it from the menus.

you can do video disks, disk to disk, mp3 disks, data disk etc.

Hi folks,

I'm wondering what people's experiences are with Sonic Record now. I'm
mostly interested in the accessibility of things like copying cd's,
burning cd's, ripping tracks.

I may be working with someone who has this program, (Sonic I mean), and I
only have the vaguest sense of the program.

Thanks,

Hi.
Sorry for the repetition but try this:
Using Nero to burn a compilation from tracks stored on your hard drive

Start Nero from the desktop or programs menu.

1.. You can configure Nero to present the new compilation dialogue in
preferences. To do this:
1.. Press Alt + F to open the File Menu.
2.. Arrow down to Preferences and press enter
3.. Press spacebar on the first checkbox to check start with New
compilation
4.. Tab to the OK button and press spacebar to save the settings.
1.. Now when you start Nero, you will see the new compilation dialogue
and
you will be placed on the multisession tab.
2.. Press shift + tab until you reach the combo box that allows you to
select what task you wish to perform. This will usually be defaulted to
CD-ROM which is used for data compilations.
3.. Now choose the format of the CD you would like to burn. Select Audio
from the radio buttons if you want a CD that will play in standard CD
players or select Data if you want a CD that will be used to contain MP3
tracks that will only be played in an MP3 player. Tab to Next and press
enter.
4.. Press enter on the New button and the compilation window will be in
focus.
5.. Use the keystroke windows + E to start Windows Explorer.
6.. Locate the tracks you wish to add to your compilation by browsing the
folders on your hard drive where they reside.
7.. For selected tracks, use the keystroke control + C to copy them to
the
clipboard.
8.. Press alt + tab to bring the Nero compilation window back into focus.
9.. Use the keystroke control + V to paste the tracks into the
compilation.
10.. Repeat steps 7 through 10 until you have added all of the tracks you
want to include in your compilation.
11.. You may now want to reorder the tracks in your compilation. To do
this, use the keystroke control + X to cut the track to the keyboard then
use the up and down arrow keys to locate the track that you wish to
immediately follow the track you've just cut to the clipboard. Use the
keystroke control + V to paste the track into the compilation and it will
then appear at this point. NOTE: this reordering is only possible if you
have chose audio format and not possible for data format.
12.. When you are ready to burn your compilation, close all running
applications so that Nero is not competing for your computer's resources.
13.. To burn the compilation, press alt + F to open the file menu and
then
press W to open the Burn dialogue.
14.. Tab to the Burn button and press enter.

I'd be very surprised if easy cd creator didn't have an option for
removing
gaps between tracks. With Nero, you would select all tracks in the
compilation and then choose the option to remove the 2 second gap. There
really should be an equivalent in easy cd creator rather than it being
left
to personal judgement.

Frank, yes this is exactly what it's supposed to do and it's done it this
way before. But now it just says 1 of 10 or whatever and when you arrow
down it doesn't read 2, 3, etc. In other words it reads the numbered
track you're on but you can't scroll through the whole track list to see
what's checked or not. When the c.d. is almost finished copying only then
can you see every song in your list and what's checked or unchecked. But
during most of the copying you only see the song you're on.

Then it must have a small audio card in it to decode the digital stream

you sure can. in transmission wise, exactly the same as plugging a

I like to copy full albums into windows media library, so of course the
c.d.
starts in media player. This happens using media 9 or 10, by the way.
Also
am operating XP home with SP 2 and using Jaws 5.10. In the past, while
songs were being copied, you could arrow down through the list and see
which
ones were copied and which were not. For example, Jaws said 1, checkbox
not checked; 2 checkbox not checked, etc. Now when copying Jaws just
says
1 of 12 and doesn't show the entire list. It is showing on the screen
as
verified by a sighted person, but I cannot read the list. Any
suggestions?

Re: converting files

2004-10-19 Thread Frank Deweese
I am sorry that I can't quite explain what my problem is. Let me try again.

I have no difficulty playing MP3 files. I am using Windows media player 10.

I copied these files to a computer from disk using MP3 format. Then I
created disks. I bought a new computer and cannot play the cads. I used
cod creator to copy the files to disk. The problem I am having is that I
can't play these disks on my new computer. I have considerable time in
these disks and would very much like to keep these files.

Sorry I rambled on for so long. However, I don't know how to explain my
problem so that it is understand

 Hi.
If Windows XP doesn't play MP3 files, there must be something wrong
with the files themselves, and conversion will, most probably, not help
you.
What happens when you try to play the files? Have you tried copying the
files to the hard drive and playing them from there? What program is being
 used to play the files?

 Hi,
Do you have CD Creator on your new computer?
I am assuming that CD Creator is the same as Easy CD Creator. Did you use
Direct CD to save these MP3 files to CD?
I could be wrong, but I believe, if you did, you will need direct CD on
your new computer in order to access these files.
That is the only reason I could think of why you could not access these
 files.
 Hope this helps,

   Hi Cindy.

If you want to copy the CD completely, you'd do well to get a burning
program such as Nero. Even with a single drive, you'll still be able
to
copy the CD as Nero will read the source CD, reject it when it's

If you want to rip a CD to your hard drive and then select some of the

   Hi Frank.

You say that your books which you have on your computer are now listed
 out
of the order in which you had them in prior to doing a system restore.

Am I right in thinking that you had your books in a sub directory of
My
Documents? And that they are still there but not in the order you
 prefer?

From the desk-top, you press the Windows Key and the letter E, this
 will
  run
Windows Explorer. Make your way through the tree-view of directories
  until
you come to My Documents or the directory in which you have stored
your
   books.

Once you are at the top of the list of files, in your case, your
books,
  hold
down the Alt Key and press the letter V. Now arrow down until you hit
Arrange Icons by. This will bring up a list of options These
 options
enable you to list your books either by Name Size Type or Modified.
 Play
about with any of these and see if you can get your list of books back
 in
the order in which you had them.

Please get in touch with me again if this is of no help, as someone
else
  on
this list may understand your difficulty better than me. Good luck.

   Best wishes.

You can't that I know of. that is unless there's this huge secret I don't
 know about?
I think what's actually happening is that Frank is listening to the files
with Winamp and is actually using another program to download the music,
correct? that makes the most sense to me.

Hi:

I, too, enjoy down loading music. Could you provide some information about
Napster. Is there cost involved? Do you need special software?

Any information will be appreciated.

I use Napster and the Real Music Store. Both very Jaws friendly and easy
 to use.
