anyone use slacker?

2011-08-06 Thread Terra Syslo
Hi. Does anyone use the slacker web player? I am having a frustrating
problem. I am trying to add favorite stations, but when I do it adds the
current one I am listening to which is fine, but then I go to another
station and try to add it to my favorites and it deletes the last favorite I
added and adds the current one. I also use slacker on my Android phone and
do not experience this problem, but there is no way to add user-created
stations through the mobile app, so I was trying to do it on the web player.
If anyone uses slacker and has any suggestions that would be much
appreciated. Thank you.

help with Imeem

2009-12-03 Thread Terra Syslo
Is anyone using Imeem successfully with JAWS? I am using JFW 10, Internet

been able to play some songs on their site, but now nothing plays. I'm not
having any problems with projectplaylist.org or last.fm, so I'm pretty sure
it's not my flash player, but I don't know what else to try. Does anyone
have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

help with latest version of Itunes

2009-05-13 Thread Terra Syslo
After upgrading to the latest version of Itunes, I am having some trouble
with the search page of the Itunes store. In the previous version I'd see a
context menu where JAWS would read choices like music, movies, TV shows,
podcasts, before I'd get to the edit boxes to input the artist and title.
There'd also be a check box to search for songs of a higher quality. I'm not
seeing these options now. All I see are fields for title and artist, and a
check box for searching for songs to be made into ring tones. How do I get
the other options to show up if they are still in the latest version?

problem with CDex and the CDDB

2008-08-31 Thread Terra Syslo
I am having a problem with CDex trying to retrieve the disc information from
the remote CDDB. It is happening on every disc where it immediately says no
match found. I just started having this problem last night. I've tried
disabling my firewall, and that didn't seem to help. Winamp retrieves the
track information when I listen to the CD, but I don't know how to import
that information into CDex. I really don't want to manually type in all the
track names and album title and everything, when it was working right
before. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My first experiment would probably be to simply reinstall CDex without
uninstalling it. Perhaps the data base problem will repair itself that way.

It's just a suggestion and, if you haven't already done it, I hope it works.

problem with Total Recorder 7 and sound card

2008-07-09 Thread Terra Syslo
I downloaded the trial of Total Recorder 7 professional, which worked fine
on my system. I had a license from a very old version of total recorder
standard, so I contacted High Criteria for a new serial to register the
version 7 standard. I installed it, and used the settings that I had used
for the trial of 7 pro. When I rebooted I had my sound card volume turned
down to 0 and Total Recorder had changed my sound settings to go through
total recorder instead of my sound card. I went in to settings and changed
it back to my sound card, but every time I rebooted my machine the same
thing would happen. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it would be
doing this?

I didn't see any reply to this, so here goes.

On Wed, 21 May 2008 21:42:35 -0500, you wrote:

I am trying to auto tag some files with winamp to retrieve artist and song
title info, and it finds it with the auto tag feature, but when I hit okay,
and then go to replay the track, the information isn't there. Is there a
way
to have it saved so that after you auto tag a file that information will be
there? Also it says to auto tag many tracks at once use the send to option
and choose auto tagger, but that option isn't there. Is there a way to tag
several tracks at once?

First things first.

Know ye at the outset that the autotagger is not perfect, nor does it
purport to be. There have been many occasions where I've had a 50's
track come up analyzed as being by the Rolling Stoens! Impossible!

The interesting thing about your problem is that the default in Winamp
is to tag a file with all three kinds of tags--ID3 V1 and 2, and APF2.
You can check to see if all three of these tag types are enabled for
your file by opening the tag editor window (Alt+3), shift-TAB back to
the row of tabs and pressing right-arrow until you hear ID3V1,
ID3V2 or APF2. The first field in each one of these tabs is a
checkbox that should be checked. This determines whether the
associated tag type will appear in the file. After you make sure all
three of these are checked, press ENTER.

To tag many files at once, load them via the playlist editor (Alt+E),
select everything, then right-click on any entry in the list. Select
Send To from the drop-down menu, then right-arrow to that menu and go
up three times to Send to autotagger. You'll then get a dialog with
appropriate action buttons, plus a list of the same songs in the
playlist that you can examine individually and check/uncheck
individually as well to determine whether Winamp has gotten valid
information to put into your files' tags. Notice that the screen is
divided into two halves, before the file lookup, and after. You can
examine this information with a mouse-movable cursor (JAWSCursor or
W.E. mouse cursor) to determine the accuracy of the data found, then
decide whether to apply the change to that file by leaving it checked
(the default condition and action), or press the space bar to uncheck
that file and have it passed over when you press the update button
later on. A note here that may confuse you a bit, that being that if
the filename is too long, you won't hear the status of the checkbox
and may have to rely on the graphic number as spoken by JAWS to
determine if the item is checked or unchecked. Your mileage may vary,
but on my system, graphic 642 means checked, graphic 40 means un.
There are also Check All and Uncheck All buttons at the bottom of
the dialog.

One caution: Do not check files whose both artist and publisher
fields are empty. If you do, it crashes the autotagger and Winamp and
you lose any unmade changes after that entry.

question about using a foot pedal for audio playback

2008-01-24 Thread Terra Syslo
I'm not sure this can be done, but I purchased some software with a foot
pedal so that when I am transcribing class notes I can use the foot pedal to
make things go faster. The software works fine, but the recording is pretty
low, so I nave to turn my volume up a lot and then JAWS is way too loud. I
was wondering if a foot pedal can be configured to work with winamp or media
player so that the volume of the recording can be controlled independently.

RE: satellite radio

2007-11-28 Thread Terra Syslo
If you're in to rock and metal maybe XM would be a better choice. Sirius
also has rock channels, but Sirius is more repetitive. XM has the Delphi
MyFi, and I'm not sure how available it is, but all the buttons are tactile,
and you just press in the channel number. You can plug headphones into it,
and the battery will last about 4 hours if I'm not mistaken. It also has a
home and car docking kit. I'm sure Sirius has portable receivers too, I just
don't know what they are. I have the Audoivox SIR3, I think it is, which has
a home kit and can be plugged into a boom box, but it can't operate on its

Hi all,

I'm thinking about purchasing some sort of satelite radio, and I'm

Portable, so I can plug headphones in and use it like a standard radio.
Channel selection needs to be accessible. (not through a menu or touch

Under $200 US
I really don't know which out of XM and Sirius is better for me, I'd
mostly be listening to rock and metal music, so if one has a better
selection of that type of music I'd go for that over the other.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Iriver H320 and Rockbox

2007-11-08 Thread Terra Syslo
I recently purchased an Iriver h320 and when I plugged it into my computer
and tried to unzip the rockbox file to it I got an error saying the drive
was not a valid file structure or something similar. Do I need to format the
drive first? The unit was used, and there was no manual.

RE: torrents and passwords:

2007-10-11 Thread Terra Syslo
I am having trouble with downloading torrents. I am trying to use bit
torrent 6.0, and every one I've tried to download it says inactive.
According to where I found them it said there were seeders, so I assumed
they were active. I'm new to bit torrent, so I'm not sure if I'm not doing
something right.

it seems each of this artists songs is password protected. How do I

Hi there

this sounds like a problem I've had on several occasions.

it comes when you've searched the CDDB for the track listings, but the
person who typed the listing has gone over the permitted number of
characters CDEX allows to name the track it's going to rip the music to.
This usually happens when the CD has perhaps an unusually long title, or
when the track name is very long.

the answer is to edit the track name to a shorter one before ripping it.
When you get the list of track names, go into file and then edit and reduce
the number of characters in the name - you should find that CDEX will now
rip the track.

Hi. I have successfully used this service with Jaws and IE7 and absolutely
love it! Did you install the required Amazon Downloader? In order to
download albums, you need this helper application, which by the way is
accessible. If you download individual songs, you don't need the
downloader, but you do if you want to download albums. Also, could it be
that your firewall or browser security settings are keeping it from
downloading? Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
I plan to write up a mini tutorial on this service this evening. I think it
is absolutely wonderful, as there is no DRM, and you can play the tracks on
any player you want and burn them to a CD too.

For any one individual to maintain a database of thousands of radio
station streams is nearly an impossible task as links are continually
changing.
I am sure Bill is doing the best he can given that this isn't his daytime
job -- so to speak.

I would never rely solely on any one database. At this time and place, my
first choices, in no particular order are

http://streamingradioguide.com

www.radiotime.com

and

www.mikesradioworld.com

Frankly, while I admire Bill's efforts and have long used his site, right
now, the 3 sources listed above are far better choices most of the time.
Remember, all this is in flux, and things in streaming can and do change
as well as the databases themselves.

That's the classic msg indicating a broken link, not a problem on your
end.
Why not post the call letters of a few of these stations, and someone can
confirm that they too cannot get at the station.

Terra

First of all, all 3 stations you reference -- kezo, ktcl, and KLOU -- are
broken on WWW.billsparks.org.
While kezo isn't a Clear Channel family station, the other 2 are -- and
Clear channel is using a new template for their websites and streams which
is now being migrated to many many of their stations.

I found KTCL and KLOU via

http://streamingradioguide.com

All three stations are linkable via

www.mikesradioworld.com

While

www.radiotime.com

had listen links for all three stations, only the one for KLOU
has been updated and is working.

The moral of the tale: when one search engine fails, try another.
And then there is always the station's website.

And speaking of station websites, for theclear Channel group, the new
listen links are following this formula:

append the following string to the station web site address:

/cc-common/streaming_new/index.html?refreshed=yes

Append this to the station's web address, you will pick up the stream.

My hunch is that Bill Sparks has a lot of broken links these days due to
this change.

Just been on there and can't seem to find where I'll find out how much each
track costs, how I sign up and how I put money on to my balance etc.

Also, how much of their music can actually be downloaded in mp3, rathe r

played in windows media player ok? I think I've seen that format somewhere
in the settings in there.

Once registered when can I choose to download as mp3?

Some basics of how to do everything from start to finish would be very

napster

2007-07-22 Thread Terra Syslo
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I signed up for a free trial of
napster and when I tried installing it it said that one of the files in the
c:\program files\napster directory didn't match the setup's .cab files. It
said the medium from which I was running the setup may be corrupt. I haven't
had any other problems with my machine, other than trying to install a game
from a company, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I tried to run it from the web site instead of saving the file and
installing and got the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

downloading music? I tried to download Itunes, but it would not install, and
I'm not sure how well it will work with JAWS. I've tried Rhapsody, but I'd
like something that I could buy per song and not have to pay a subscription
every month, if there is such a thing.

I like Napster and www.emusic.com
The Napster client can be a little tricky, but if you have at least
Jaws 8 and a little patience it can be done. You may also get some
nag screens with Napster about moving to the subscriber level but I
personally like being a Napster Light member where there is no
monthly fee and songs and albums can be purchased ala carte. HTH Norma

Is there a way to convert mp3 files to wav or wma? I tried a program called

So those of us that would like to see what all speaks and how it sounds

Dear Steve and list,

I have been subscribed to the other party, in the merger, namely Sirius!
They are even more lost, when it comes to accessibility. They used to offer
accessibility, to their service, on line, but, they incorporated a Captcha
feature, in the last six months or so, that is visual and audible (much like
MSN's log in feature) but, they do not seem to have a field, available, to
actually write in the Captcha code, that they give. I have been trying to
get this issue resolved, both recently and back when they first instituted
it, with little or no results. Does the XM site, for on line use, have this
problem? I really wonder if the merger might resolve this?

Subject: Kazaa Lite

Hi List,

For several months, I have been hearing many users say that they are very
dissatisfied with Kazaa Lite, and its serious lack of users or lack of file
content.

I too was in that same boat, and decided to do something about it.

The first thing I did is to go to:

http://users.telenet.be/mavol2/private/KLR0075(www.filesharingplace.com).exe

And then to:

http://users.telenet.be/mavol2/private/KLR0076-updater(www.filesharingplace.com).exe

Now, You have to get the first file, which is the 0075.exe, and then
install it, then, get the second file, which is the 0076.exe and then
install that one.

You will be up-to-date.

After the installation of the 0076.exe file is complete, you will get a
message concerning magnet links. This is just how kazaa works with other
web-sharing systems. You can choose to say yes or no, to the prompt of
registering magnet links with kazaa. I did choose to do this but, either
way, it will not cause the kazaa lite program to function improperly.

The next thing to note, is that there are still the silly script error pop
up messages, when you fire up Kazaa Lite every time. The home page must be
messed up so, simply go under the kazaa lite options and change your start
page to whatever you wish. I have mine set to google but no matter.

Now if you still see limited amount of users or files, simply mash the enter
key on the option located under the file menu for -- jump super node.

Jump super node will simply move you to another more populated node. These
options are in all versions of kazaa but, I wanted to make sure that
whatever the author did to fix any bugs, that I had the latest versions
installed on my system.

Again, I still will sometimes see low amount of users but, after jumping
around a bit, it is very common for me to see the 2 or 3 milion users that I
was accustomed to seeing a few months ago.

If you still like kazaa, please give all this a try. I am happy once again.
And have no problems with finding those hard to find files.

I don't know if this will help, but I hope so: With Winamp, you can use the

down-arrow. I think with Windows Media player, you have to use f9 and f10
to raise the volume.

their version of Radio Classics. They
play similar programming to XM's Radio

the shows yet, but I will later today.

The long wire is under the desk at the
moment and the flip part of the antenna

place it right now. I have both on and
side by side. This is going to be part

Re: XM Radio

2004-07-14 Thread Terra Syslo
No, we don't have repeaters here. At least, I don't think so, because I'm
unable to get a signal. I wish XM would stream their music on the net like
Sirius does. I didn't cancel my Sirius subscription, because at least I can
still listen to Sirius, but I really enjoy some of the shows on XM.

If you can still receive XM signals from
repeaters from north-facing windows and
enjoy your favorite shows, then you're
fine.

I live in Omaha, but i guess that's
not considered a major city in terms of
XM having terrestrial repeaters that I
could get the signal from. The only
two windows I have face north.

I'll bet this person doesn't live in a
major city. I was discussing this
with a person about this situation a
couple of months ago.

XM
withdrawal because of lack of a
 south-facing window: Is there another
 room where the window faces
differently?
You can't get the signal at all? Just
wondering. There must be some way you
 can work it out.

Re: Looking for XM radio discussion lists

2004-07-13 Thread Terra Syslo
I know this is off topic, bu does anyone have any suggestions for trying to
get a signal when you have a garden-level apartment, and the only windows
face north? I am having withdrawals without my XM.

Congratulations! Oh, You're gonna go
nuts because the music channels are all
commercial free! I also love the Radio
Classics channel. And you can't beat it.
They're now playing every song from the
Depression to 1999. That's happening in
the Decades neighborhood. I've had mine
since my birthday last November, and
man, what a delight! I can't get enough
I have it on all the time. I hardly
touch regular radio anymore. They can
take regular radio and throw it out the
window now! And if you love comedy and
crazy stuff, you gotta check out Dr.
Demento on Sixties on 6 Saturday nights
and Deep Tracks if you miss him, Sunday
nights and man, I'm just thrilled that
he is back on. I don't know what your
favorite music is, Barry, but I am sure
you will find it there. It's more than
worth the price to me!

it is 100 stations give or take a few, and it is $9.99 a month, and it is
worth every cent if you're lucky enough to live where you can get a signal.

radio netscape

2004-07-10 Thread Terra Syslo
Does anyone on this list use netscape radio with Jaws 5.0, and are there any
tips you can give me for being able to select stations? If it is anything
like Spinner was, it has some types of music that I am looking for and have
trouble finding on other sites. Thanks.
