Jim,

What is updated with EAC is the LAME codec rather than the interface.
Consider reviewing your version of LAME to determine if it is the latest
stable version. As you know, LAME is downloaded and installed separately
from EAC, although it should be placed in the EAC program folder to easily
find it.

I always use the LAME presets for ripping. These presets have been created
by the community of LAME developers and end users to easily create the
highest quality output by an average audiophile who is not an audio
engineer. One of these presets is for 320 CBR.

A few years ago, I switched to FLAC for ripping all my audio CD's. I used
to rip in 256 VBR MP3, but with dirt cheap storage I can now have the best
sounding music preserved for a lifetime. I still use MP3 for ripping audio
books and spoken word material.

Hi, I thought I had things configured correctly to rip mp3 at 320

with vbr. Could some one give me some help setting this part up? I've

want to re do them and do them correctly.

If there is a better format that the sansa clip and my android phones

instructions to get it setup and working. It has been a wile since I
did this stuff and I did it at 128 kbps mp3 with heck I do not even

Does eac have an update feature to check for latest versions? I have
 not ran across it.

 Thanks.

Hi,

I''ve done likewise here. I think provided you've sufficient disc space
available, initially ripping to flac will offer you more long term
flexibility.

You can then re-encode the flac files to mp3 for use on portables etc.

Best regards,

RE: eac and window-eyes

2012-08-07 Thread Tim Crawford (GI4OPH)
Hi,

The current PC here has a Intel i5 2500k cpu, with 8gb of ram. During
extraction or ripping with eac, I've found exactly the same delay in speech
as my old Pentium 4, and even the ancient win 98 machine which preceded it.

This delayed response in speech output seems only to occur when extracting
with eac. Window eyes, for me at any rate, works normally with Other
software such as Nero, Clone Cd etc

I'm curious. How many processors does each person have? A dual core
processor would run a bit slower in general (although it may not be
noticeable) but would handle audio processing tasks better. A single core
system would definitely seem sluggish when doing a lot of audio processing.
I know when I upgraded to a dual core processor, multitasking while I was
doing some audio processing tasks was definitely snappier.

However, sometimes when I am ripping or burning a cd it happens to me

Maybe having a hardware speech synth would fix this? That's a rarety

 Same experience with JAWS.
I guess it's because EAC is using 100% CPU and thus makes

 Hi Brett,

I used exact audio copy to rip my cd collection, comprising around
1000 discs to flac. To date I haven't encountered any tracks with
audible artefacts, even those which eac reported as having possible
errors.

Eac seems to be generally regarded as the most accurate ripping tool
 around.
By utilising both secure mode, and the accurate rip facility, I reckon
you can be pretty sure if eac reports no errors you have a perfect copy.

The process of ripping even a collection of a few hundred discs can be
time consuming, so it pays to get it right first time.

With this in mind, I personally feel it's well worth taking the time
to learn and configure exact audio copy.

RE: ripping my collection: advantages of eAC vs mainstream rippers

2012-02-21 Thread Tim Crawford (GI4OPH)
Hi,

Yes, I also have a duplicate of everything in mp3 format. Initially I used
Dbpoweramp to batch convert the whole lot. Now after ripping a cd, I
immediately make a copy of the flac files as mp3's. For this I use a
program called Trader's little helper.
TLH is a very useful little utility which performs various conversion tasks,
amongst other things. It's also free, and pretty accessible.

There is a way in eac to call multiple external encoders, so when ripping,
both mp3 and files could be created simultaneously. Although, I never quite
made that work successfully here.

Hi. I've been reading on list about eAC for ripping cd's and I know a
few people on here swear by it. Was just curious about some of the
advantages using it. I'm thinking of ripping my whole cd collection and
throwing it all out. Is eAC a program I should consider? I've used wmp and
Itunes but I hear some people r unhappy with the results.
thanks in advance for the help.

I don't have that card, I have the delta 1010lt and I don't think they've
updated the software for win7 with that card. I'm rather disappointed but
don't have the money for a better card.

James,

Thanks for the reply, I've incountered a slight problem in that when I try

I'm new to windows 7, so can only assume this is some type of security
feature. I'd be greatful if you, or anyone else could let me know where to
unblock access to this folder.

Are you running an installed copy of Foobar2000? If so, just copy your
%AppData%\foobar2000 folder to the other machine on which you have
installed the player and all your settings (including keyboard shortcut
assignments) will be copied across. Note: Before you do this, make sure
that both machines are running the same version of Foobar2000 to avoid
conflicts.

Hi,

Speaking of Foobar, I would be curious to hear from users which particular

I'm about to embark on setting up a few short cut keys, and would be
interested to have some ideas of what has been found to work well.

Hi!
Foobar is smaller and faster.
However the accessibility issue isn't a problem for me as i use nvda most
of the time.
But as jaws and hal works with foobar its very strange that window eyes
doesn't work.

Foobar works for me most of the time.
However i have other players here if i need too.

What does Foover do that Winamp doesn't? I guess what I'm saying is: if

Well, I totally disagree with this statement. Maybe I hang around with
particularly cautious sighted people or particularly adventurous blind
people, but I don't find blind computer users any more reluctant to try
new applications than sighted people. IMHO, this is a dangerous
stereotype, maybe caused by spending more time on blindness related
mailing lists than mailing lists frequented by the general public.

That being said, I also don't blame anyone who is happy with what
they're using and isn't looking to change. If it isn't broken, don't
fix it. I used to spend all of my time looking for a better media
player, but then I decided I'd rather spend my time listening to music
than playing around with the various accessibility foibles of the
different media players out there.

On 15/04/11 03:48, Anders Holmberg wrote:

Hi!
Yes i totally agree with you.
Sometimes i think blind people are more afraid of security risks and
taking risks at all with their computers.
Personally i have tried several programs for windows on this machine
with mixed results.
Some programs work some don't.
However foobar is the greatest player i've tried.

Brett Boyer skrev 2011-04-14 21:15:

By now you would think somebody would have done something. I think
it's because people who are blind stick to there one or two programs
and don't like to explore and try hnew things. If they only knew that
foobar is one of the best media players out there.
I'm sure it doesn't need to be a very detailed set file since the only
thing W E won't read is the main list view everything else is
accessible already.

Suggest that you tell the devs of we to make a set file for it.
Hal and nvda also works great with it.

Fore a free program you might look at Format Factory. I don't have the
