VIP Conduit is proud to announce the arrival of The VIP
Communicator.

Designed from the start with screen readers in mind, this new
conference

client is a delight to use. Installation is a snap and the sound
quality

in the chat rooms is a pleasure to listen to. The user has full
control

of the amount of

information they wish to receive by using the settings available to

customize your preferences.

Like to play music in a room for your friends? How about a room
that
allows

them to hear your music in full Stereo.

There's no need to install a special program to allow you to change
your

settings to play music. You may now set up the client to do this
with
a

couple of keystrokes, and in most cases the client will do this for
you automatically. These are only a few of the many features you
will

find in this outstanding new client which we invite you to come try
for

yourself. Our congratulations and appreciation go out to Barry
Jennings,

designer and developer of Vip Communicator without whose ingenuity,
skill

and generosity this would not have been possible.

Please feel free to pass this on to other lists you may be on.

Hi to all on the list. Over this weekend I used my lap top on the road to
play some DVD's for the kids, and I encountered several problems. So I'm
wondering, aside from inter video, is their a program that is either
freeware or relatively inexpensive that works better with jaws. Inter video
works well, when it works, but it didn't work very well at all this weekend,
and I'm leaving my options open.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good set of computer speakers? I
don't want surround sound or subwoofers, I just want good old fashioned
stereo speakers, though I'll take a subwoofer if that's so much the norm
now. I have a set of Yomaha speakers that I purchased around five or six
years ago that, until now, worked wonderfully, and had really good sound
for their size: good solid bass but not overpowering, with good treble as
well.

I need a volume control on the speaker, as well as an external headphone
jack.

Hello everyone,
I got a call this weekend, that my Aiwa boombox I ordered was in. So on
Monday I went and picked it up.
It is terrific. I am really glad that I kept looking, and that I sent the
Sony back.
I don't have the bleed in with my NPR station like I did with that Sony,
and
I am very happy about this.
Also, for the last three nights, I've listened to WSM an AM station out of
Tennessee.
This station is the home of the Grand Ole Opry.
I've never been able to pick up this station before, so this is just cool!
I haven't really gotten around to messing with the tape deck, or CD player
yet. But I have no doubt that I will like them.
I did test the tape deck while looking at the display model.
The price on the Aiwa website is less than what I paid, but I don't mind.
I
think the price was definitely worth it.
Here is the model number for anyone who's interested.
CSD-DX51
This thing sounds absolutely wonderful.
There are still some buttons that I haven't figured out. And it took me a
day or two to get used to where things were. But now it's not as
confusing
to me.
However, one thing I don't understand, is why I seem to have four buttons
for going threw the radio stations.
If I'm using the two on the right, and I lock on a channel, but then
switch
using the left buttons, I'll end up back on the last station. If I go
back
to using the right two buttons.
I was wondering if maybe there are two FM bands, but I wasn't sure if that
was possible. And the info you get from the Aiwa website, doesn't say
anything about that.
Well, everyone have a happy Thanksgiving.
Terri

Hi George.
Can't give those details for this particular model but I expect with
regards to the shuffle question it will be the same as that for my own
player the jukebox 2.
Basically, you connect the player to your computer using the USB
connection
and then use the notmad explorer software to access the audio tracks.
This
is a folder on the MP3 player that contains all of your MP3, WAV WMA
files.
You can then either use control + A to select all tracks or highlight a
single track. You then press the applications key which will bring up a
context menu. Arrowing down the list will give you options such as play,
play on your computer and add to playlist. You add the track or tracks
to
the playlist. You have the option to add to an existing playlist or to
create a new playlist of your own naming.

When you have added all of the tracks that you want in your playlist, you
then press backspace to take you up a level which takes you out of the
audio
tracks folder and puts you in the main area. Pressing the letter P will
take you to playlists and pressing enter will open this folder. You can
then arrow up and down the list of playlists until you find the playlist
you're interested in. When it's highlighted, press the applications key
again and a context menu will open. Simply arrow down to shuffle and
press
enter.
You now have a random playlist.
Generally, I only have one playlist that I've called unimaginatively
All.
At present, there's only 355 tracks in there but I've had nearly 2,000
tracks in a playlist previously.
The jukebox 2 is a 10GB player and can hold approximately 2,500 MP3 files
encoded at 128kbps or 5,000 WMA files.
Regards.

Hi all,
Has anyone used the latest version of WinMx, 3.53? I believe someone on
this list mentioned that it was not as accessable as previous versions.
I looked at their website and did not find that you can download previous
versions, so I was undecided whether to go ahead with the latest release
or
not.

Any advice?

Paul and Kristen,
First of all, Winmx works pretty well even without scripts, though I do
appreciate the added functionality of the scripts. One tip if you decide
to
try without the scripts is that you might consider the verbosity option of
turning on foreground colors so that you can tell the state of your
uploads
and downloads. In other words, if a particular file is identified with
cyan, it means the file has been successfully/completely downloaded, green
means it is still in progress, red means it has stopped and is incomplete
etc. Hope this helps.

Paul, I'm using JAWS 4.02 and Windows 98. For the most part I can use the
PC cursor except to enter on a download link or a context item within the
transfers window. I'm not sure how much this varies from system to system
or with OS or screenreader and version, but I am quite used to it and have
not found it to be a problem beyond the initial adjustment of learning the
program. I guess it depends on how comfortable folks are with the JAWS
cursor in general--in this instance I would not say the program is
inaccessible for that reason.
Susan

Hello,
I have a version of Nero Express 5.5.10.45 which came bundled with my CDRW
drive. While the program mostly works well and does what I want it to,
there are one or two problems with it which I would like to sort out if
possible.
If I have been using the program and then close it down, I cannot re-open
the program without re-booting my PC. If I try to do so, I don't receive
an
error message, but the program just doesn't load.

Also, after I've used the program and want to shut down my PC, I am asked
to
close down two programs - INCD_GUI_FRAMEWORK and Nero.exe.

It seems as if Nero Express is not shutting down properly and I wonder
whether anyone else has experienced this problem and knows of a solution.
I
have looked on the nero.com web site for an update, but there only seems
to
be an update for the full version of Nero and not for Nero Express.

If anyone has any suggestions, please pass them on.
Thanks,
Caroline.

Hi Frank.
When you say CDX do you mean C D E X? Also, if you are running C D E X,
which version are you using? If you are running 1.51 of C D E X, you
might
want to consider downloading and installing version 1.50 of C D E X.
I am saying this because I tried running version 1.51 of C D E X but got
the
same results that you are now having.

I use it for internet streaming and ripping cd's to mp3, You can also
use it for recording from the mic and then converting from wav to mp3 I

I have found the program excellent it does not sing and dance but it a
louse me to record from the sound card and convert tapes to mp3 if
anyone is interested they can e-mail me off list.

different from ftp cause alot of times
you have to have a user name and

you want you get what ever the person
has off of the hard drive i think ftp
servers are neat don't ever get me on

useful to back up some large folders on to them and remove them from the

Hi,
You should be able to put a big pile of mp3 songs on a cd. Simply
make a data cd and you should fit around a hundred and fifty songs on the
disc. I recently made a friend a bluegrass cd and put 198 songs on it.
He has a car sterio that can play that type of cd. Some sterios play
them, others do not. Many of the portable cd players play mp3 cd's as
well as standard cd's.

Rusty
Hi, everybody.
I like making compilation CD's of songs from various artists and average
about 16 to 17 songs per Audio CD. I also prefer dot wav files, as they
don't sound canned like MP3 files. Could I put a big pile of songs onto
a DVD? Do I require any special hardware or software? Will the finished
product play in a home stereo CD player?

Best,
Lou Novath

Please excuse an idiot. Grin
What is the difference between DVDs and CDS? I thought that DVD were
digital
video disks and CDs were for any kind of data whether music or any other
kind of data.
I'm sorry to be so stupid on the subject. Would someone please shed some
light on this for me?

Hi,
You will need to burn a data DVD.
the same as you would a data CD.
- Original Message -
 Hi Gang,

I just got a dvd burner and have nero six and roxio six on my
machine. I'd like to put 4 gig or so worth of mp3's on a dvd disc for
archival purposes. What is the best way to do this? Do I just treat it
like a cd and just make a larger compilation layout? Or, do I have to
burn
it a special way? I've never attempted this. I have a sony burner
that,
reputedly, burns all formats. I've burned a couple of cd's on it, used
it
to rip a couple of cd's, and actually copied a cd to it from my cd
drive. I have a sony dvd plus r.

 Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 Rusty

Do you have to have a DVD player on your
computer befrore you can play DVD's? Do
you have to have special software to
access it? I'm a Window-Eyes user, so
just curious. What happens if you play
a dvd in your computer straight? I
mean, well, just put a disc into your
cd-rom drive? I have Nero and it has
the capability of burning dvd's if I
want to, but I have it set to cd.
Anyway, just wanted to ask a question,
because I was thinking of borrowing a
dvd from the library just to see what
would happen if I would try to play one
on my computer.

I've got it too and the descriptive

With Power DVD you cycle between

Hi all, if you go to
http://www.kzion.com
and press enter on the listen now link, windows media player comes up,
but when you save target as, and try to play it, it says windows media
player can't play the file type, and it might be incorrect, or corrupt,
but the file plays fine from the site. I changed the extension to .asx
and it played just fine, but wonder why this happens? I'm using
window-eyes 4.5sp4, windows 98 se, media player 9, 192 megs of ram, and
a 400 megs processor, if any of this information helps, this is more of
a fascination, than anything else.

Subject: splitting a large wave file into smaller files

Hi everyone. What I have here is 1 huge wave file consisting of ten
tracks and I want to splet it into ten individual tracks. Any suggestions
as to what software to use to accomplish this task? I have a program that
will easily do this for Windows Media files, but I don't want to keep
converting the file type back and forth. Could Goldwave do the job? I
suspect so, but thus far I've only managed to get it to trim the excess
sound off of the beginning and end of the one large wave file. I don't
mind purchasing shareware to complete my task as long as it's within
reason. Also, I would prefer to do the job by marking the file at the
points where I want to split it. I've tried programs that split files
automatically and have been less than impressed with results. Can anyone
suggest the best method of doing what I need to do here?

My thanks for the expertise.
Larry
