If not, what do folk use for cd creation?

information about this group, such as your password, how to change
your preferences, and a few basic rules of conduct we expect all

Attention! Do NOT send a test message to the list or you will not be
subscribed very long!

Guidelines.

PC-audio is a list for the discussion of any PC audio related topic
such as PC audio software like sound editors, audio players and audio
formats; and hardware like sound cards, CD and DVD devices and so on.

While the subject matter is wide ranging, this is not a forum for the
discussion of non-pc-audio matters. There are many other lists for
political or other discussions.

There are also some PC audio related topics which are specifically
excluded from the allowable topics. The explicitly prohibited topics
include:

* requests for songs or other audio files * promotion of audio streams
except for occasional announcements of special events * advertising
audio products and service Willfully posting an off-topic message is
strictly prohibited. While it may be considered that one or two
messages that are off topic can't hurt, if everyone on a large list
like this took that approach, we would quickly descend into chaos.
Asking for replies to be sent privately makes no difference.

Some examples of off-topic messages include:

* Virus alerts * Jokes and humor * Advertising items for sale * Test
messages * Non-audio software and hardware

Vulgar language, name calling and other types of flames are strictly
prohibited.

Sometimes a message thread starts with a clearly defined purpose, but
as the discussion develops the subject matter can change. If this
happens, you should take the initiative and change the subject line to
better reflect the subject matter of the thread.

Some people pay by time or volume when they use the Internet. For this
reason, please take care when quoting messages that you're replying
to.

Ideally, keep just enough of the previous message to remind
subscribers about the message to which you're replying, and no more.
Otherwise, one quickly finds a few lines of new text at the beginning
of a message followed by screen after screen of old messages.

If you believe that any of these rules are not being followed, do not
raise this as an issue on the list. Write to the group owner at
pc-audio-ow...@pc-audio.org and express your concern. If you raise
these matters on the group itself, it will generate considerable
off-topic traffic and bad feeling. There is only one moderator. Please
do not post messages asking that a thread stop or accusing someone on
the list of being off topic.

The moderator of the list has the right to remove or restrict anyone
from being able to post to the group as a result of not adhering to
the stated rules.

If you disagree with any of these rules, please unsubscribe now by
sending a message to pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org If you do not
unsubscribe, this is taken as an acceptance by you that you will abide
by the rules as outlined.

Greetings,

GoldWave works well for people without or with poor sight, I'm totally
blind

and have been using it for must now be about eight years.

If you are using Jaws, there are some good scripts available, at present I
am still using V5.70, the last version to work with windowsXP the next
version is 64-bit and cannot work with XP.

Some people say scripts or setfiles are not required, well, the program
can
be used, if carefully set up, out of the box but the scripts (for Jaws)
make

it easier.

then space to play the file but it always plays from the start of the

Fw: iTunes 12.1 fix

2015-02-09 Thread Robert Doc Wright

Here is a fix for the 64Bit iTunes that works. You will have to uninstall
iTunes first. There is an order in which iTunes should be properly
uninstalled. I will place that information below and place the link for the
fix afterwards.

Uninstalling iTunes

Steps

1.Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in
the following order. Then restart your computer.
1.iTunes
2.Apple Software Update
3.Apple Mobile Device Support
4.Bonjour
5.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall
some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.

1. F11 to get to control properties.
2. then control tab until you get to the device tab.
3. tab through to see whatever it is that you are after selecting and
recording from (keep in mind, you will need to have the device you are
interested in recording from, plugged in).

how much does this unit cost.
as to surround sound, i have heard the real thing with the 7.1 or higher
configs of pure true surround sound and the quality is outstanding.
granted systems like that would cost a bunch of money to achieve the
quality that can be produced.

As requested.

This sample was taken from Sky.Fm's Up Tempo Smooth Jazz Channel using the
Sky.FM App for IOS, I then used AirPlay on the iPhone to stream the content
from the iPhone to the Bose Soundlink Air and this is the result.

I've made the sample available in 2 formats as follows.
Flac

MP3

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes, file
may still be uploading to Dropbox.

I wonder if anybody on list owns this speaker from Bose. It costs $300.
I saw one briefly last evening at the Verizon store, as I was
purchasing my new iPhone and was pretty impressed with the sound, given
the size of the box. I really haven't looked all that much in to this
sort of speaker. I have an older dock that works with the older style
iPhone connectors, and it really sounds pretty good, but my better half
has sort of taken it over for use in his class-room. So I'd like to
know from those who have experienced this equipment, what did you
think, and are there other units you'd recommend as good competition? I
like the size and the volume and depth of sound, but am not thrilled
with the $300 price tag, naturally.

I am finding that it is best to charge while it is off. Again I forgot to

I charged mine from dead flat with the power off, charged it for 4 hours,
used it all day today.

My experience may have have been a one time incidence. I had it plugged
into a power strip and gorgotten to turnit off. When I came back to it the
next morning I could hear nothing. This is what gave me that idea. Just
yesterday, it began beeping to alert me that the batteries were low. I
plugged it in and about twenty minutes later I had to unplug it to go to
another room expecting to hear it begin beeping again but it didnt.

Okay, perhaps I'm miss-understanding something here but I thought someone
mentioned that the headset had to be switched on for charging to take place?
Charging of the battery will take place regardless of the position of the
mode switch - whether the headset is switched off, in 2.4GHZ wireless or in
bluetooth modes -, you might found that the headset charges more quickly if
the mode is set to off.

Yes that's correct, you can talk all day on Skype etc with the headset
connected to a USB power supply and the battery will still charge, this
functionality is not found on all headsets and I can understand why, if
you're charging from a computer's USB connection then you do have a very
limited amount of current available to any USB device so talking on the
headset whilst trying to charge its own battery takes more current than just
charging the battery alone, my Plantronics 995 audio headset wont operate
whilst charging.

actually, there is an opening on the left hand side of the h800. There's
a pannel that you turn a quarter turn to the left, then let the pannel
fall open. You'll then see the battery, and a slot for the nano receiver.

Unfortunately, there's only stuff about a proxy server, default audio
device, and use multimedia controls in the Options dialogue box. There's
nothing about resending activation.

Hi Evan. I recently got a new Win 7 machine to replace my Vista machine
that died; since I've got the Hope program transferred to the new machine
before the old one died, I went to the program and looked for the Options
section; there should be a button that says something like "resend my

the program and put in your Pandora login info, then there should be a

Subject: Any Home for My Hope for Pandora on My New Windows 7 Machine?

Hey Guys,
I have an activated copy of Hope for Pandora on my old Vista machine. I
installed it onto my new Windows 7 machine, but apparently I need to
activate it before I can use it. I wrote to Support ten days ago but have
gotten no response. Do I have to buy the program again to get it to work on
this new machine? I kind of resent having to do that, especially from a
company that promises support but apparently doesn’t really provide it.
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get my legally purchased copy of Hope
to run on my new machine?
Thanks much.

the part you normally hold in your fingers goes in first towards the bottom,
then you lay the stem down so that it is pointing towards the top of the
headset. Then take the cap with the dot pointing at the dot on the headset
then twist right.

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning

ARe you talking about simply changing the extension rather than
the format of the file?

If that's all you need to do, DOS is your friend here!

Open a command window, navigate to the folder your files are in,
and type

REN *.M4A *.M4R

Hit RETURN and it's done.

If this is the sort of thing you're likely to do often, there is
an XP Powertoy which adds the command prompt to the right-click
menu. Windows Vista, 7 and 8 have this built in, just
shift-right-click on (or in) the folder.

Okay I best get the bad points out of the way first, if you're looking for a
clear sounding headset for Bluetooth chat with your IOS device - and your
IOS device is one which can take advantage of Bluetooth 3.0 and higher -
then forget this headset, as its Bluetooth 2.0 and not as good sounding as
some others on the market particularly when it comes to Voice
communications.

Listening to music through the headset is okay but I can't help feeling
that - for the money if its music you want - then you'll be far better
served spending your hard earned cash on something specifically designed for
music.

I tried pairing the headset with my iMac using the supplied dongle, whilst
sound through the headset was clear I couldn't get the microphone to work
with Skype and I'm at a loss to know why, the input device is shown in Skype
but there's no level.

The headset is well designed, well laid out controls and even a storage
compartment for the USB dongle when you're not using it.

The design is one of those "Fold Away" types which allows for easy storage
and transportation.

The battery can be charged whilst you use the Headset and its claimed that
you should get around 6 hours of battery life from the h*00.

There's no doubt that the H800 is light and comfortable to wear.

I received this around half an hour ago though as yet I've not been able to
get the headset working with my Mac using the dongle, Haven't even tried it
with a Windows PC.

Pairing the headset with my Samsung Galaxy S4 and my iPhone was easy enough
though its a pity this headset won't allow the use of more than one
Bluetooth device at a time.

So I have a question, what's the little spring switch near the power,
Bluetooth and Wireless 3 position switch for?

I am really happy with the Logitech h800 it is both bluetooth and wireless.
I can use it with my pc as well as my smart phone. For example, if I am in

Re: mp3 skype recorder success

2014-02-28 Thread Robert Doc Wright
You will have to go into skype options under advance/manage other programs
and allow skype to use it.
as for bringing up the msr window open the system tray "windows + b" and hit
enter on skype recorder. You might have to do it twice. This should bring
up the window where you will have 3 unlabled buttons.
b1: record
b2: stop recording
b3: stop recording and disconnect
the dialog box before b1 is where you set your bit rate
the box before that allows you to choose between stereo, joint stereo and
nono. The stereo options always places the recorder's microphone in 1
channel and everyone else in the call will be in the other channel.
If you continue shift tabbing you will find where you can change where
recordings are stored.

Well, I finally got the program installed. From what I can see, the program
doesn't appear to have a menu bar. When you press the alt key with the
program running, all that comes up, is the system menu, allowing you to
change the size of the window but there doesn't appear to be any menu of any
kind. How do I tell mp3 skype recorder to save recordings in a folder of my
own choosing rather than the default folder it has chosen for me? If it
should become necessary, and I didn't want a particular skype call to be
recorded, how do I turn the automatic recording on and off? and is there a
way to adjust the quality of the mp3 files that mp3 skype recorder records?
Finally, when making a recording of a Skype call, I read an article online,
that states that you should fire up Skype first and then the program. Just
for clairification, is it necessary to have mp3 Skype recorder running while
Skype is running? Or will the program just kick in on its own.

I'm atempting to install mp3 skype recorder. However, every time I press
enter on the icon containing the .msi file extention, I keep getting a
message telling me that I have to first install something called
Microsoft.net framework version 4.0 or higher in order to continue with the
installation. Being that I'm an average everyday computer user, who doesn't
mess around with my operating system, I have no idea as to what this all
means. What is Microsoft.net Framework 4.0? Why do I need this? and where
can I get it? Is it possible to install this so-called Microsoft Framework
thing, without messing up my computer? I know that this may sound somewhat
silly, but as I said, I'm no computer geek and I'm not comfortable tampering
with Windows in a technical manner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi!

I'm sending this in a separate reply to the original eMail on this subject,
in my original reply I sent a link to the tutorial which describes how Total
Recorder can be set up to record Skype and other Internet/VOIP Telephony.

In this eMail I'd like to refer to another way of recording Skype calls, if
you have a Mac you can use Audio Hijack Pro, all you need do is run the App
and select the "Record From Skype" template and tweak to your requirements.

When the "Hijack" mode from Record To Skype is enabled a Skype call will be
recorded whenever Audio Hijack Pro detects any audio activity from Skype.

Further to this Audio Hijack Pro is fully compatible with Apple Automator
Scripts and workflows therefore offering further enhancement and automation
of the Skype recording process, you could for example have a Skype call
recorded an automatically put into an iTunes playlist, have the call logged
or archived etc, its all down to your imagination.

Automator Scripts and workflows are easily put together through the Apple
Automator Application which forms part of OSX Mavericks and earlier OSX
Operating Systems.

Hello again everyone,

I just visited the mp3 Skype Recorder site, and apparently, the setup
program to which you'd use to download and install the software, has a .msi
file extention. I've never heard of a .msi file. What is it? And can you
install software containing this type of file extention on a Windows pc?

will call graph work with virtual audio cable as mp3 skype recorder does.
We sometimes play a track during a call and MSR will continue recording the
call where telecorder will follow the original microphone thus when the
microphone in skype is changed it is no longer recording the call it is
recording whatever the original mike is picking up.

Yep folks, I've finally decided what Dock I'm going to buy, I'm after a new
one given that I no longer have any IOS devices with 30 Pin connectors
though the only problem there is I have 3 units with 30 pin dock connectors,
I'd be absolutely raging! if those devices couldn't be put to other uses and
were only useless 30 pin docks .

My decision has come down to the Bowers & Wilkins Z2 iPhone dock/airPlay
speaker though I warn everyone now, the price for one of these gorgeous
things is not cheap, at around $400 but - from what I've heard - its
certainly well worth the money spent.

The Z2 sports a 9 pin Lightning connector, has an Aux-in socket and can be
used with airPlay.

I'll write more when the device arrives and I can test it with my Wi-Fi
network etc.

I could understand how that would happen given that the microphone is a
moving part, still the headsets are cheap enough and 2 years worth out of it
can't be complained about i don't think.

old tapes and records whereas SR all the functions are very accessible out

the manual is well laid out and easy to get to, I sent a link to that

Editing/navigating keystrokes are straight forward and easy to use, I
haven't found out yet whether it handles Daisy recordings but I suspect it
does given that Studio Recorder has a navigation menu which allows the
navigation by sentence, paragraph etc.

Hi!

I wrote about the Plantronics Audio 478 headset a few days ago, someone on

I've since looked that up and found it available quite cheaply so I'll
probably get one of those as well as the Audio 478 as I can use the Audio
995 in different situations given that its a wireless pari but I would
however very much appreciate any feedback from anyone on list who has a pair
of Audio 995, wireless headsets being what they are seem to vary a great
deal, I've heard some truly excellent wireless headphones - my Senheiser I
got over a year ago for $400 is a case in point - and I've heard some
absolute shockers.

Subject: Good Headsets To Use With Skype Etc

One of my favourite headsets for Skype and similar applications is the
Plantronics Audio 478 Headset, I've had my original pair for 2 years and I
just bought another.

This headset is completely portable coming in its own travel bag, portable
it may be but its durable enough to sit on your desk and be used as a main
headset for your desktop computer.

The headset is a stereo type with quite good sound for the money but
certainly not audiophile sound as one would find with something like the
Grado SR60I headphones but quite acceptable for Skype and everyday
listening.

The Audio 478 headset is an on the ear type thus you can hear what's going
on around you.

The headset employs DSP technology for noise cancelation and signal
processing.

The microphone of the Audio 478 rotates downwards from the left and can be
adjusted once lowered.

For a headset of this price the microphone sounds very nice and doesn't
exhibit the quality of talking through your nose type sound that some
microphones do on these sorts of headsets, I had terrible trouble with a
logitech pair in this regard.

An inline control panel provides volume, mute and answer/hangup buttons,
these buttons can be manipulated through the Plantronics Audio 478 control
panel which is a downloadable add-in to Windows, you can customise what the
buttons do, a plugin is also available for Skype to allow Skype to take
advantage of the answer/hangup capabilities of the Audio 478.

The headset is a USB type and the cable is fairly rugged, again a great plus
for this headset over the older Logitech pair I owned whose cable started
curling and perishing after a very short period of time.

The Plantronics Audio 478 in my view is very reasonably priced, I paid
$65.00 for my new pair and $70.00 2 years ago when I bought my original pair
so the price hasn't changed all that much.

The price I paid is in Australia dollars so people living in the U.S. will
probably pay quite a bit less.

Open playlist editor with alt-e, then ctrl-tab over to that window.
Hit shift-l to open the directory tree view. Then you will simply be able to
pick the folder you need. Then you're done...you can cycle through the list
with the arrows, or use the b, z, etc keys.

If winamp doesn't recognise the order properly, you may as well add them
manually with l instead of shift-l.

Hope that's reasonably clear.

To my knowledge, in the absence of Stereo Mix or similar in your sound card,
you cannot record Skype conversations with Gold Wave; you can however, do it

Hi there

Hoping someone can help. I'm baffled as to what's happening.

I've got a laptop running the latest version of Audacity along with Jaws 14.
I'm also using a USB Blue Yeti microphone which I plug headphones into.
I've got JAWS going through the microphone, checked through the sound card
menu with JAWS utilities. I've also checked the Blue Yeti mic in the input
and output devices in Audacity. The issue I have is when I import a track
into Audacity and hit play JAWS vanishes. The track plays, but JAWS goes
silent. If I unplug the mic and put it straight back in again then JAWS is
back through the headphones. There's obviously an issue with the playback
options, but I'm honestly at a loss what it might be. Any ideas would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Johny

Subject: Looking For A Particular Style Of Headphones

Hi!

I'm looking for a particular style of headphones for my Samsung and Apple
iPhone, I have a Senheiser Bluetooth set that work very well but these are a
professional pair of headphones and I don't really want to go walking down
the street with these things.

I have a wired pair of headphones - that is they plug into the Headphones
socket of the phone and have a microphone on the right hand ear cable - but
they're cuffed and enclosed.

I'm looking for something not unlike the Plantronics 478 Audio Headphones,
these phones are flat with fome cussions of that makes any sense, the sort
of style you used to see for Walkman sets.

They have a fold down microphone from the right hand ear which can be
adjusted.

Unfortunately the Plantronics 478 Audio headphones are a USB set thus can
only be used with a computer so I'm looking for something similar that can
be used with my iPhone or Samsung Galaxy s4.

I'd rather the set be hard wired to the phone but if it has to be Bluetooth
then so be it but preferably Bluetooth 3 or 4.

There are heaps of headsets out there and I don't want to spend from now
until December 2014 trying headsets and sending them back from whence they
came .

Re: playing audio files with skype using virtual audio cable

2013-11-29 Thread Robert Doc Wright
1. set your player's output to line 1
2. turn on the VAC control pannal
3. open audio repeater MME
3a. under wave in choose line 1
3b. under wave-out choose the sound card you want to listen from
3c. set priority to real time
3d. click start
4. open skype options alt t in the skype window
5. arrow to audio
6. use pagedown to locate line 1
 Now you are set.
Note: when I set the microphone in skype I pagedown then arrow down so that
my main microphone is still in the mix in case you wish to talk you will
only need to arrow between microphones.

select. From those of you who know this audio driver better, how will you
use it to play files through skype?

According to the authorof this driver it should be possible to do this.

The Verge and Tech crunch both are reporting it although I couldn't find it
either. tech Crunch has AOL as it's parent company but still gave a
surprisingly honest article about how AOL mismanaged winamp after it took it
over or it could have been as good as iTunes. They basically said the
site hasn't been properly updated in a year and go get it quick if you want
the last version before it goes away.

Hi all,

the following information is taken from the Winamp home page at
www.winamp.com:

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past
December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be
available for download. Please download the latest version before that date.

end of article.

If you want to get the latest version which is now 5.66 I'd strongly
encourage you to download it while you can! A direct link to the file is at

http://tinyurl.com/kkxgont

It is not known if Winamp will still function normally after it is no
longer being developed. It is certainly popular in the blind community.

Below are the changes in version 5.66:

* Improved: Added a Reset button to clear history in the Open/Add URL dialog
* Improved: Added an option to disable the mouse wheel from altering the
volume
* Improved: Added more commandline switches (run: winamp.exe /? to see
full list)
* Improved: All menus now use the skinned style when option is enabled
in ML settings
* Improved: Disable all online features when no internet connection
selected in Prefs
* Improved: High DPI & text scaling compatibility fixes for dialogs &
library views
* Improved: Increased notification area tooltips up to 128 chars
(instead of 64)
* Improved: Library views now optionally group the 'Play' and 'Enqueue'
buttons
* Improved: Mass metadata editor from library now also available in
Playlist Editor
* Improved: Retry UAC prompt if user previously selected "No" (for
relevant settings)
* Improved: Speed-up of Winamp shutdown process
* Improved: [gen_ff] Added a setting to control show/hide time for
docked toolbars
* Improved: [gen_ml] Drag & drop handling tweaks
* Improved: [ml_downloads] Added 'Size' column
* Improved: [ml_history] New options for resuming playback (for podcasts
or all files)
* Improved: [ml_history] Added a 'Play Offset' column with right-click
option to clear
* Improved: [ml_local] Added Podcast, BPM & Rating fields to Ctrl+E
metadata editor
* Improved: [ml_playlists] Option to use source file instead of
database-managed copy
* Improved: [ml_nowplaying/wire] Added support to use alternative services
* Improved: [ml_pmp] Added a simple view to match Local library support
* Improved: [pmp_android/usb] Added support to File Name Formatting
* Fixed: Agent not using Winamp window if a clone is already running
(eg. KMPlayer)
* Fixed: Length not being read when set to read titles on load
* Fixed: Ratings-related freeze on right-clicking large selections in
playlist editor
* Fixed: Saving to wrong extension for the 'Save As' action in the Alt+3
Artwork tab
* Fixed: Unicode characters not displaying in taskbar when some old
plugins are present
* Fixed: Various issues with aero-peek and docking of freeform skins as
an appbar
* Fixed: [gen_jumpex] 'Jump to File' window not always visible when
pressing 'J' or 'F3'
* Fixed: [gen_ff] Docking to bottom/right when windowframe scale is
anything but 1.0
* Fixed: [gen_tray] Lockup/double-start issues when using the 'Prev' action

* Fixed: [libmp4v2] Crash due to invalid pointer check on corrupt files
* Fixed: [pmp_android/usb] Crash on bad path
* Fixed: [pmp_android/usb] Use filename if no metadata available to
generate filepath
* Misc: [installer] Added a "Winamp (Safe Mode)" option to start menu icons
* Misc: More general tweaks, improvements, fixes and optimizations (lots
of them!)
* Updated: [enc_fhgaac] Fraunhofer AAC Encoder v3.02.16
* Updated: [enc/in_vorbis] libogg 1.3.1
* Updated: [gen_jumpex] JTFE v1.3
* Updated: [in_wave] libsndfile 1.0.25

I tried vac and ran into a problem
I pointed the audio repeater to line 1 but was not sure on what the output
should point to since I will be trying to record from GoldWave. I pointed
goldwave's mic to line 1 again not sure if this was correct.

No doubt, as well as many other jobs since virtual audio cable can route
any digital signal to any other input you need.

Hi Robert,

I'd like to share this happy news with you and the other listers that
are interested. Skype decided that they are extending the use of Skype
Desktop API. This means that we are going to be able to still use MP3
skype recorder after december until they find another alternative. for
more information, check their blog here:
http://blogs.skype.com/2013/11/06/feature-evolution-and-support-for-the-skype-desktop-api/

Hope that helps!
Best wishes
