RE: accessible Dj software

2006-08-05 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Don.

I just got home yesterday, so didn't see your message until now.

I use OTS DJ for my broadcast on ACBRI. It does a nice job of cross fading,
and it's search function is very nice. It does cost several hundred
dollars, though.

Winamp does have the ability to cross fade with a plugin. I don't know
where you get it, but I suspect that it's on the Winamp web site. Winamp
does have the plus that it's free if you don't want the extra features of
the pro version.

As far as how you organize your files, that's personal preference. I have
mine in one folder, and use Ots DJ to search for my music.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: accessible Dj software

2006-07-31 Thread Steve Matzura
You can do this with a single instance of Winamp and your mixer that
you currently have. If you have two sound cards, it's easy to
redirect JAWS to the other one--or Winamp, for that matter, whichever
you like. You can add all your songs to the Winamp library and search
it to cue up tracks to play. Lots of us on this list can help you
through email. It's really quite easy and you don't have to spend any
money.

However, if you want things a little more automated, two packages come
to mind--Station Playlist and OtsDJ. Right now, OtsDJ is cheaper than
SP, and you get different features with the two packages, and they
both have pretty steepy learning curves, but they'll both do what you
want quite nicely. The only problem with Ots DJ is there's latency in
the mic or line-in circuit which can cause horrendous feedback if
you're not careful. Station Playlist behaves similarly, but there are
things you can do to avoid the echo problem, but they circumvent other
features, such as the ability to run all your audio--music, mixer,
etc.--through the PC's DSP compresser. If you use an external one,
then this doesn't count and SP would be a better choice.

would rip your library? Would you rip the files As one super large directory

the track number artist and song title showing? Most of me just wants a
large directory of songs so that I can search by song title. then I would
like to be able to put the song through a piece of software so that it would
be in the play order. I have found a usb to serial cable that will run my
dectalk express but I would like to know how to set up eliquence so that it
will run on an alternative sound card. I would like to by a usb sound card
to send the music through and have jaws speaking through the on board sound
card. If you feel like you are a professional at this I would gladly spend
money for some training on this subject. Other wise I will buy the numark
mixer that has Mp3 capability. I have a standard cd mixer now. Thanks lots
in advance guys.

Hey Steve,

I find I can get used to Studio 4's mic delay, especially since I have been
able to bring the buffer down from 500 to 300 ms. It really isn't bad,
certainly compared to the functionality you get in their latest version.

Hi Reese, this will be an issue with your sound configuration, not with
StationPlaylist itself. I used to use Ots DJ and it is an excellent
 package,
but I much prefer StationPlaylist in terms of accessibility and features.
For Shoutcasting though, it is possible to do it all on one sound card
 with
Ots, but with StationPlaylist you will need a second sound card or a
hardware synth to stop your speech from being broadcast.

RE: Accessible DJ Software

2005-11-03 Thread Tony Bernedal, SM5XGP

Hi.
I can recommend Ots dj for use as a dj. This software is little complicated
but when you have played with it you love it, at least i do. It's not very
accessible out of the box but with Snowmans script for it it rocks. One
downside is the price, it's expencive ... I have used it now for 4 years and
I like the sound and response from the software. It plays mp3s but you get
more power of it with their own ots format. I have used it on live gigs and
on internet broadcasts and I'm very happy with it. It's a good choice if you
want to mix songs together and do good transitions between songs.
You can read about it at www.otsdj.com
Stationplaylist is also very good but it is designed more for
radiobroadcasts and you can't mix songs together in this program. I also
find Stationplaylist little sluggish in response to commands.
More info at www.stationplaylist.com
So think of what you wanna do with the software and go out and download a
demo and play with it and you'll see wich one you like.
All the best Tony

Hi:

I have had much success with station play list with one major exception. My
screen reader keeps coming through the live broadcast making it impossible
for me to put my station on the air.

Re: Accessible DJ Software

2005-11-03 Thread Brent Harding
How did people ever do that top of hour news stuff that I've heard on
various stations? Is that something of using the Sam program, and how does
it know where the end point will be? I know some stations air programs
syndicated over the net, that I assume are streaming. Just sort of curious
on what they do to make it happen and not sound bad.

It's the easiest one to use.
I've been running it for 3 years.
Just work at it, and you'll get it.
There are plenty of people who use it

 Use stationplaylist studio, it rocks.
 Go to
 www.stationplaylist.com
 It's the most accessible.

 Hi Listers,

As the subject says, I am looking for an accessible DJ package. I am
thinking of going into the disco business.

I have heard of PC DJ, Mix Master and Niro and I am not sure if they
 are

 accessible.

 Thanks.

I'd take a look at Otsdj from http://otszone.com and that program is a bit
pricey but will do exactly what you want. There also is another program
called Station Playlist Studio but I don't have the url for that package.

RE: Accessible DJ Software

2005-11-03 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Reese, this will be an issue with your sound configuration, not with
StationPlaylist itself. I used to use Ots DJ and it is an excellent package,
but I much prefer StationPlaylist in terms of accessibility and features.
For Shoutcasting though, it is possible to do it all on one sound card with
Ots, but with StationPlaylist you will need a second sound card or a
hardware synth to stop your speech from being broadcast.

Hi Jonathan:

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought getting a hardware
synthesizer would be the way to go with either station Play List or winamp.

I have had some success using virtual turntable with Window-eyes, playing
cuts back to back easily, but didn't get in to scratching or anything like
that.

Hi there, don. I love ots dj, and the jaws scripts work great for it, but
I'm seriously considering switching to window-eyes. Are there set files for
ots dj? If so, where can I get them?If not, how best can I use it with W E?
