Re: Portable MP3 Player Question

2008-04-07 Thread Estelita
Hi,
I have Tevion digital voice recorder/mp3 player.
I should say this is the most accessible mp3 player I've ever tried, plus
its affordable price, so I have two of them.
In its 500 MEG of storage, I was able to store around 200 songs in WMA
format in one.
The other one, I use to store just mp3s and voice recording.
This unit has tiny 6 operational buttons that are easy enough to master as
well as LCD screen for sighted people to see the song title+artist.
It is JAWS friendly, and is accessible in Win 2000, XP and now in my Vista
PC.
All you have to do is connect the USB cord onto the unit down to your PC.
Although I did not install the included software when I plugged it in, my PC
said, hardware found.
Using Up/Down arrow, JAWS reads the two folders which are the record folder
that stores the voice recording and the folder that stores the music.
Press Enter to open up the record folder to delete the recorded voice using
delete key.
You know that you are in the music folder when JAWS reads the music title.
So, in my PC,I selected all my music in the music folder, copy and pasted in
one go to my Tevion.
This unit has built-in speaker a lovely sounding ideal to put in under your
pillow to put you to sleep, of course headphone, two triple A battery and
other more accessories are included.
However: there is the latest one of this product that I'd like to get hold
soon and that is: Tevion 2GB MP3/Video/JPEG/FM Radio + Voice Recorder,
Product Code: IN-TV2GBMP3 from:
www.INest.co.uk
Cheers,

Estelita

I'm looking for a reasonably priced MP3 player so I can transfer music
from
 my computer to the player.

 I would appreciate any recommendations.

 Thanks.

Actually, I have a Zenstone and was looking at the larger capacity Zen
model. I love the Zenstone as well.

Thanks.

Are you looking for a hardware MP3 player like an iPod or are you
looking for an MP3 player for your PC like Winamp or Windows Media
Player? I'm assuming the former.

Are you looking for anything in particular, such as an off the shelf MP3
player or something designed specifically for the blind? How much
capacity are you looking for?

I personally recommend the 1GB Zen Stone from Creative. It doesn't have
a display, so it's totally accessible. You can also use Windows Explorer
to copy songs to it, so there's no issue with accessible software for
your PC. You can play books on it from Audible.com, Overdrive.com and I
assume other book providers. It costs around $35.

On the downside, it only has 1GB of storage, although I heard you can
get the same model in a 2GB version now. It also only supports MP3 and
WMA (although not lossless WMA).

I personally recommend the 1GB version, although if you can get the 2GB
model, that would work too. Creative has a few MP3 players called the
Zen Stone, like the Zen Stone Plus. These other players include an FM
radio, a voice recorder and they come with a display. I've heard some
blind people report on these lists that they've have trouble with
respect to accessibility with these models and others say they haven't
had any problems with them.

Re: Portable MP3 Player Question

2008-03-31 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, I personally have Rockbox installed on an iRiver H10 for my hard
drive based MP3 player. It has a 20GB capacity. I'd suggest looking at
Rockbox and the MP3 players it supports if you're looking for more
capacity. Remember though that Rockbox is a firmware replacement for
your MP3 player, and it's open source. Furthermore, it wasn't designed
specifically for the blind. I think they've made great strides lately in
installing Rockbox to your MP3 player, but I wouldn't go into it
assuming that it's going to work for you quite as easily or quickly as a
self extracting Windows application. you may have to do a bit of
reading, research and investigation, as well as some trial and error.
Also, Rockbox has a lot of support for the open audio formats but not
for the proprietary ones. I think they do support WMA, but you're not
going to have any luck with Audible.com or Overdrive.com. Check out more
information at Rockbox.org.

As far as MP3 players designed specifically for the blind, I've heard a
lot of good things about the Victor Stream, although I don't have one
myself.
