Subject: Altec Lansing Expressionists Speakers, Cheap Price But Not Cheap
Sound

The subject line says it all when it comes to this pair of speakers.

The Altec Lansing Expressionists speakers have little in the way of features
but who really cares about that when cost is low and sound - for a pair of
desktop speakers - is worth recommending on its own.

The speaker system has only 3 buttons, power, volume up and volume down
which are situated on the rear of the right speaker. the volume up and down
buttons are identifiable by the plus and minus signs, the power button is a
button with a detent, not that much different to the sort of button you'd
find at the bottom of an iPhone screen.

The Expressionists speakers are designed in such a way that they cannot be
easily knocked over, this is achieved by the speakers having cylinders at
the rear which touch the desk and rubber feet at the front, I also suspect
that the cylinders give an opportunity to the speakers to output more bass.

Each speaker contains 1 3 inch driver and sound is surprisingly good
throughout the spectrum.

The system has 2 3.5MM jack input sockets which are mixed together so 2
devices can be run simultaneously if required.

Volume is louder than I expected and the system does indeed deliver a good
punchy sound, nothing tinny about these speakers whatever.

If you want high performance for music or games then this speaker set is
obviously not the 1 to pick but if you have a very limited budget and want a
set of speakers with all round good performance without too much compromise
then this system at $50.00 is very hard to pass up, I'll be using this
speaker system until my Harman Kardon sound sticks arrive in a few weeks and
I have no trouble with that.

The Altec Lansing Expressionists FX2020 speakers.

Yes there are several models in the Expressionists range including
Expressionists Ultra, Expressionists Plus, Expressionists Classic and the
original Expressionists FX2020 themselves.

I have the Expressionists Plus and they're okay though nowhere near as good as
the Expressionists Ultra were for a 2.1 channel speaker system.

The Expressionists FX2020 is the best value for money 2.0 channel desktop

These sound good for output for Jaws. Particularly as you say they have two

Do you know if places like Dick Smith sell them?

Re: Altec Lansing Expressionists Speakers, Cheap Price But Not Cheap Sound

2013-07-01 Thread Dane Trethowan
Can't argue with the sound of the product that's for sure, a little
disappointed with the life of the Altec Expressionist Ultra system I had, only
had the thing for 18 months and the switch mode power supply blew, though I get
no sound whatever out of the system now it still looks absolutely magnificient,
the nice pollished wooden sub-woofer - the size of a mini computer tower -
standing on the floor with the plush looking 2-way satellites standing on the
shelf, the Altec Expressionist Ultra system was indeed! the best speaker system
designed to work with computers I've ever heard and worth every bit of the
$200.00 I paid for it in late 2011.

The Expressionist system I'm using right now sounds very good for just a pair
of desktop computer speakers, as I've previously stated for $50.00 you just
can't go wrong with tese things.

I have a set of Altec Expressionist Plus speakers in the lounge and they're not
too bad for a 2.1 channel system, the advantage with this system is that it can
be put into small places, the sub-woofer is small enough to put onto a higher
shelf you may prefer to do, the satellite speakers are small enough to fit into
tight spaces and yet sound quite reasonable.

I was most tempted to buy the Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass system but shied
away from this when I saw the Specs, not quite as good as the Altec Lansing
Expressionist Ultra or the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks.

Re: Altec Lansing Expressionists Speakers, Cheap Price But Not Cheap Sound

2013-06-30 Thread Dane Trethowan
These speakers are very good for speech, they're okay for music but then again
they're only worth $50.00.

The big surprise I continue to get from this speaker set is just how loud,
crisp and clear the sound is and how well this speaker system projects sound to
the ears when you have them standing on a shelf in front of you.

As for who sells them in Australia? I bought mine from eBay so use Google to
find out who stocks them locally.

As I said at the start, the Altec Lansing Expressionists speakers were only
bought as a stopgap whilst I saved enough money to order my Harman Kardon Sound
Sticks which I'll be doing later this week, to say that I've been more than
satisfied with the stopgap measure I chose to take would be an understatement,
not as good as my former Altec Lansing Expressionists Ultra system or not as
good as the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks but then both those systems are a lot
more money.
