I was a member of audible.com and am thinking about joining again. I am
looking for angels and deamonds but I want the unabridged version. I can't
seem to get to the place where you can search to see if the book exists
without joining. Is there anyone who is a member of audible that could
check or is there another place to look for audible books?

There are four Audible formats. While format 4 is based on the MP3
format, you are not getting standard protected MP3's. Audible does not
provide its books in standard MP3 format.

First, I wasn't sure which to download--Audible Download Manager or
Audible Manager--when purchasing my first book. Not being sure I first
downloaded Audible Download Manager but found it confusing and wasn't sure
where in Media Player to find my file or how even to get into the player
itself. So I downloaded Audible Manager, which is on desktop and it says
you can use its player or Windows Media. Well I did get it to play with
the Audible player and I do like the way it continues from where you left
off when you re-open Audible Manager. But I don't know the hot keys as
far as forwarding, rewinding and using volume on this player and wouldn't
  mind help there.

But what I'd also like help with is being able to somehow convert Audible
books into MP3's so they can be played in Winamp. I know that somehow
they convert to small files and these files end in mid-sentence, but I do
prefer Winamp and am hoping someone can show me how to convert books to
  MP3.

  Thanks.

Hi,

Grab an older version of goldwave or google for Sound Taxi platinum as both
of these programs will convert .aa to MP3.

You have to pay for sound taxi but Goldwave is free for 50,000 commands.

Hi larry, there is an Audible Desktop Player that will allow you to read
Audible content on your PC. A number of portable devices support Audible,
including PAC mate, The Olympus DS30/40/50, and plenty of others.

hi All,

I have been a member of audible.com for some time. I don't
have any trouble
getting books, but I do have a couple of questions.
Whenever I upgrade
winamp, it takes over trying to play those files. It can't
play them. The
only way I have found around this is to unselect all
filetypes in Winamp,
which defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.
Does anyone know
what filetypes I need to uncheck so that Winamp won't try
and play my
audible files?

My other question concerns the portability of these files.
I do not have an
mp3 player at this time, so I have been burning them onto
audio cd. The
problem is that I often get this horrible crackling noise in
the disk. Many
of my disks are impossible to listen to. I do have a cd
player that will
play mp3's. Can I convert the audible files to mp3 without
burning them
onto audio first? I could then get several books on one
disk, and that
would be quite handy. I'm open to ideas. Thanks.

With goldwave you need to change the file type to all files then look for
the audible file you wish to convert.

I would love to do that. Is there a way to convert the files to mp3
in Roxio? If I downloaded a trial of goldwave how do I go about this
process? Thanks a bunch.

Thanks.

RE: audible.com

2005-12-08 Thread Sarah Heesen
Yeah, they just changed it this week. You still download from your library,
only there aren't 'archived programs or 'heard programs' links. Your titles
are all there on the library page. Mark the checkboxes next to the titles
of everything you want to download. The download link is down toward the
bottom of the page, and it will download all the titles you've checked at
once. Also, be sure to check the combo boxes at the end of all the links
related to each book. These are the audio-format boxes -- and the format is
automatically set at the largest format.

Hope it works. ... and Oh, yeah! The download window is Java, and I still
can't get that to work. Hope you have better luck.

I had not been to the Audible.com website for a short time as I had some
books saved on my hard drive. Today I went online to download a book and
was not even able to get to my library. I have learned how to find a book
in my library, but, can anyone tell me how to download a book once you find
it. For example, where do you select the format; and where do you go to
download. Any help would really be appreciated Thanks.

I was just there a few minutes ago. Now you choose a period of time to
display when you made a purchase. There is a combo box in each section to
choose the format size. (the default is 4) check the book you wish to
download then do a search on download and you will find a link that says
download selected item this will start your download.

Ah, so they sort of made it more difficult? I would have to go through my
entire list of previous books to find new ones I haven't downloaded? That
seems yucky. Is the audible manager different now? I know Larry did a demo
of something that sounded different than I used to use and then transferred
stuff to the book port.

I don't think this is the right list to answer you on. Go to the
blind audible listeners list on Yahoogroups and ask. You're right,
they have changed the site to something totally new, so knowing the
old site and ways of doing things won't do you any good. It's not
really hard to learn, it's just different.
