Re: Sound Forge 11 Question
Yep, I've seen that problem too but can't remember how I fixed it and if the MS Framework thing was responsible, I do know that I found others were having similar issues thanks to Google. Has anyone been using Sound Forge Audio Studio 12 and how have they found that. RE: Sound Forge Requiring Administrator
You can only run it this way I've found. After upgrading to Windows 10, I can only run Sound Forge 11 as administrator. When I do not do that, I get a dialog asking me to register, but when I press "NEXT" it seems to just disappear. This did not happen immediately after my upgrade, but this started happening several weeks after my upgrade to Windows 10. Has anybody found a way to fix this? Running as administrator works, but I would like to get back to being able to run it normally. Peter, I didn't notice any disadvantages but I probably don't use Sound Forge at the level that some of you do. At some point, I started having trouble with selecting audio with mark in and mark out, and I don't know what the source of that trouble is. I think I had that trouble with Sound Forge 10, though, as well. I also can't say that I found any advantages, either. Re: Sound forge and Win 10
You've got it over me there. I've hardly ever recorded in Sound Forge and I remember the dialogue you speak of in the early days, that put me off completely and I never got good recording results when using Sound Forge anyway hence me prefering to use Total Recorder for recording, I think I started using the Standard edition of total Recorder back in 2003. I had to do some editing using Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 some months ago, I was working with FLAC files and the whole process of using those with Sound Forge was just so slow compared to anything else I had on the Windows or Mac machines, I gave up in the end and used Goldwave for the editing tasks. Now of course I'm speaking here of Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 and not Sound Forge Pro 11, there may be some differences in the way files are handled but I'm lead to believe that file and formatting handling is exactly the same regardless of the Pro or Audio studio. Been a good while since I bothered with Sound Forge, I bought the Pro years ago but just haven’t bothered to upgrade it, I use Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 if I have to bother using Sound Forge at all and that seems to work fine under Windows 10 as I’m sure does Sound Forge Pro 11. Re: Sound Forge Pro 11
Christopher, forgive me writing. This is a complex topic. There is no noise reduction pluggin or system on the market, that does not vary the original source audio. Can the varyation be heard with the human ear? Depending on the cost, and you can pay thouzands of pounds for proffessional software, the varyation may be more acceptable than with less expensive packages, but not always necessarily so. Depending on the frequency of the unwanted noise, will determine how the overall bandwidth is effected, by cutting, or reducing these frequencies. But the software is more clever than that, and works by sampling and re-sampling techniques and much much more. The question you need to answer, is What noise do you want to reduce, or remove. Can you use equalization techniques to useful effect? Are their any third party pluggins that you could introduce to your existing toolbox? There is a jazz programme I listen to, and a large amount of the music is from 1930 and later to say mid '60s. Much has been attacked with enhancement and reduction software, and sounds, to my ears, totally ruined. A false top end, say for Cymbols and other instruments of that frequency range, and a varying top end that vanishes and comes back during the playing of the track. Middle frequencies, 440 Hz and below, are often sounding false depending on the instrument playing. There is extra cibilance added to the human voice when it is recorded with a high quality microphone and the top end is lifted to a false summit. The problem is made worse by the narrow bandwidth and compression used by the bbc stations which cary this particular programme. Our digital broadcast media is offering us verry poor quality audio. If this were picture broadcast, the mailbags would be overflowing with complaints about poor visual quality. As listeners, the digital revolution has left us with some verry poor audio indeed. Hope you sort it out to your satisfaction, after all, that is all you need to do. Satisfy your own ears, it's your music, and you have to listen to it. Kind regards and good luck, Joe -- Joe Paton j...@vi-ability.demon.co.uk

Hello, you can install multiple versions of Sound Forge, just like you can of Jaws. I remember one pc I had for a long time where I had versions 6 7 and 8 installed, just because I never got around to uninstalling them. I don't know if you have used Jim's scripts for SF, but he built some for version eleven, and his page seems to say that there's not much change in version eleven from version ten. I know that they have not moved to the ribbon concept though. http://www.snowmanradio.com/ to take a look at what he says. Matthew

Re: Sound Forge Pro 11
Yes, you can have multiple versions of Sound Forge on one computer. I currently have versions 10 and 11. I believe everything you can do in version 6 you can do in 11, but there are some things that are not all that accessible, and I wouldn't say that accessibility improved. However, some bugs have been fixed and version 11 will work with later versions of Windows. Hi Tim, Simple really. Partly I do some sound restoration for people and the Goldwave noise reduction is not up to Sony's but also some of the Izotope repair stuff you get with Sound Forge is awesome. I have V8 kicking around for ages and upgraded it. I haven't looked back. Re: Sound Forge Pro Mac 1.0 is here!
Oh, I did not notice that you were sending it out to other lists; I guess I should have realized that. ! BTW, I isolated the add attachments text, from the WLM 2011 guide, by David Bales: Adding Attachments in WLM 2011 1.There are a number of ways of opening the Open dialog in which you can choose files to attach to the message. There's an Attach file button both in the Insert group of the Message tab, and in the Include group of the Insert tab. In addition, by default, an Attach file button appears as the fourth button in the Quick Access Toolbar (Alt, 4, if you're not using the Jaws virtual ribbon, or Insert + 3, then Alt + 4 if you are). 2.An Open dialog opens which has the same structure as the standard Windows 7 Open dialog. Select one or more files in the Folder view list view, and then press Enter to press the default Open button. 3.You are returned to the new message window. The focus within the window is unchanged, but there is now an Attachments list between the Subject and message body edit boxes, and in this list you can move between items by using the arrow keys. Note that Jaws mistakenly reads this as the message list. Old age perhaps. If necessary, you can repeat this procedure to add more attachments to the message. I am going to look at the Insert tab, on the WLM 2011 menu, as well as the way in which we tried to do it! Let me know how Blio goes; I just updated my version; I may still try to send you the guides, that I have! Have a good weekend and if you come up with anything, let me know. Also, BTW, Salman Rushdie (sp?) has a new book out called Joseph Anton. Candee looked at the thing, at her local bookstore and it was about $60, with 22 discs! Just another thing for you to look for, you know? If you are using Sound Forge, just use the mix paste feature. Hello, I've finished transferring a tape into Sound Forge, and have saved it as c:\tape1.wav. However, neither Windows Explorer nor the command promt show the file is there. If I load up Sound Forge and navigate to c:\, the file is there, and can be brought back into Sound Forge. Do you think that Sound Forge is setting the hidden or archive attribute on this file? I thought so, and tried to use the Dos attrib command, but it couldn't find the file. Any suggestions? I'll be able to delete these when I'm finished extracting the songs into individual tracks, but I'd like to clear up this problem without needing to delete the tape-long files within Sound Forge. Re: Sound Forge 7 upgrade to 10 pro
Hello, especially if you're running SF with Jim's extra scripts for Jaws, you'll still be enjoying great functionality. I believe that version 8 was the first one to introduce the shuttle controls, which run the audio file at a faster speed, which is different from Jim's scrubbing function. I use the SF function extensively, most when I'm near a point I want to mark, and I want to move back half a second and stop. I use the audio itself to gauge this. Anyhow, there are many features which have been added since Sound Forge version seven, but I just can't remember all of them. I've been a user of SF since version 4.5. I believe I even heard of another user who has been using version 6 on Windows 7, so you may decide to stay at that version. I'd personally upgrade to be current though, if you can manage it. Re: Sound Forge Pro 10 navigation issues
Hi Jamie, I'm only using SF7 so can't really help. IN Snowman scripts for 7, there is a setting alt-control-numpad5, which toggles between Standard Stop Method and Original stop method. I've had a problem for a long time wwhere I get unwanted feeback from Jaws each time I hit those navigation keys. The souns goes forward or back and plays, but I got this stuff about going in and out of menues. Anyway my point is that Snowman helped me last weekend and told me to set it to Standard Stop method and then re-train the transport controls with control+alt+shift+t. It worked for me. So I wonder if there is this training mode in the SF10 scripts. Tonight at CUG someoen said you had a very good mobile phone with good keys. Hi! In previous versions of the Sound Forge Application I used - that's now known as Sound Forge Pro - the regions facility was extremely useful, you could for instance make regions of different portions in your project and treat those as a playlist - only your regions would play when you hit the spacebar -, treat them as a cutlist - everything but those regions of your project in the cutlist would play when you pressed the spacebar, - or you could extract the regions to files - each region of your project would be a separate file -, so far so good. It seems that with Sound Forge Audio Studio these features have been removed so - given that - I have to ask myself the question, why bother with regions at all? What's the difference then in Sound Forge Audio Studio between regions and reference markers? As far as I can tell there are absolutely noe. For your reference, you can put a Reference marker anywhere in your project - no matter what mode you're in - - by pressing the M key. So again, another reason to stay away from Sound Forge Audio Studio in my humble opinion, with those useful region tools removed I see little point in the software, Goldwave has a similar feature to Sound Forge's regions in the form of Cue points, highly useful and further more they can be shared amongst applications that support cue files, you can edit them in a text editor and so on so another damn great reason to purchase this product. I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. It would allow one to create a CD from those regions that you spoke of, with individual tracks involved, which I am sure, from your conversation, that Goldwave could do as well, right? I could never figure out how to create the regions in version 9, hence I would import them, from version 6, which I was told, by Jim Snowbarger, the Snowman, at one time, that his way of doing that was the same! Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?
Glancing through the specs for Sony Audio Studio regions are certainly mentioned and I feel regions must exist in version 9 to enable burning tracks to Cd from within Audio Studio. So I'm guessing the command to convert markers to regions is somewhere else now, but not absent in Audio Studio. I can check this when I turn on my other computer which has Audio Studio on it. As for the plug-ins, well I think Sony saw it's mistake in version eight of SF and so started offering noise reduction etc bundled with SF9 and now 10 I think. You may think the price premium high, but then the various converters offered as additions are amed probably mor at professionals than more casual users. One doesn't have to look far either in our little access tech world to know that something carrying pro in it's name is inviting custom from someone who's liekly not paying that premium price themselves. And as a final sorry note on Sound Forge Audio Studio, this version seems far less accessible than past versions of the software and I don't think its my imagination either smile though perhaps I'm just used to the excellent accessibility provided by Goldwave under Windows or amadeus Pro for the Mac smile. Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?
Ah yes, that's all there alright but there is little manipulation of them, that's my point so I'm asking what is the point of the regions at all when you can do exactly the same thing in Sound Forge Audio Studio 9 as you can with markers, another reason in my view to stay away from that software and purchase Goldwave, another version of which was released yesterday. On 14/11/2009, at 5:15 AM, Ray wrote: Glancing through the specs for Sony Audio Studio regions are certainly mentioned and I feel regions must exist in version 9 to enable burning tracks to Cd from within Audio Studio. Ray Mac Norins wrote: I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. I am digressing here and don't have anywhere near the knowledge that you have, judging from listening to some of your posts, so I will close; just wanted to offer another viewpoint on this subject! Vicki, if you just want to restore records, go to http://www.tracertek.com/ where you will find DC-7 which will allow you to get rid of clicks, pops and other noises. the full sound forge with the noise reduction bundle is quite expensive. I used to take a noise sample with goldewave and clean it up with diamond cut. it is betterr to be set bak $100.00 instead of the $300.00 for the sound forge. - Original Message - From: Victoria Vaughan vrvaug...@mailzone.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, October 13, 2009 3:20 PM Subject: Re: Sound Forge Versions/names; what they should cost approximately;and which version should I get that is the most accessible (version8,9, or 10) Ah, well, too bad. You need to use the arrow keys. Up and down alter the zoom level which determines how far you move with the left and right arrows, when navigating the file. I use sound forge 7 on a regular basis. Simply press M to set a marker. control left and right arrows moves from marker to marker.Control-shift right/left arrow keys will select to the next or previous marker. I'm not aware of being able to move markers in SF. think you have to create a new marker with control-M again to have a marker at a new position. Ray. Hello, not being a Window Eyes user, I can't help with Sound Forge's interaction with that screen reader, but what sort of problems are you having navigating the screen? I stongly suspect that operator error is at fault here, so can somebody please tell me how I can listen to a file in fast forward mode in Sound Forge? I don't want to change the file's speed. Re: Sound Forge question
Yes, it's I for in, or the starting marker, and O for out, for the ending marker. Also remember that if you use control shift K, you'll hear upto the cursor position, so that it plays a bit before you've stopped, so you can hear exactly where you are, and where you're about to mark in or out.. I've found that it's a bit tricky to undo an in or out marker, because it gets confused. If you know you've done it wrong, just hit delete, and then control Z, to undo the delete. That will usually clear the wrong position. Thanks a lot.
