Re: Reposting A Question
I got rid of Quicktime simply because it wanted to take over my PC and install itself into everything. There are very few files that actually need QT; I manage happily with Winamp and Mediaplayer Classic (with FFMpeg codec package), with the occasional excursion into VLC if I find something the other two don't like. -- rgds LAurence ...George Orwell was an optimist. ---Taglines by Tagzilla (tagzilla.mozdev.org)

Quick time is from Apple. Since it was taken with an Android phone, chances are that Windows Media or Winamp will play it just fine. I'd try that first. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Monday, June 30, 2014 4:23 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Reposting A Question I tried that save target thing; no soap! Well this story has a happy ending for me: I did get rid of Quicktime (the video was delivered last night; turns out I wouldn't have needed Quicktime after all of that! It comes up in Winamp, but only plays audio! But VLC definitely will play the video! Re: Reposting A Question
You can set the default program for any file extension in Windows, this should take care of your problem, it also depends on the mime type being sent from the website. You can always do a save target as in the right click menu on the link instead of just hitting enter as well. I tried that save target thing; no soap! Quicktime just jumps right in! As for this default program thing: that seems to either not work for me or I don't understand how I'm supposed to work with it! Meanwhile (at least for now) I have removed MR. Quicktime! I may reinstall it (once the video in question has been delivered) but there was yet another archived show I wanted to download (Quicktime once again intrephered) I had a discussion with a friend of mine last night who told me that he was afraid it was just going to cause more trouble with me being able to download things; since I cannot see a file association thing in Quickttime, I decided that (at least for now) that Quicktime was gonna have to go! Thanks all for your suggestions and am willing to listen to more, for my fear is that Quicktime may be the only player that will work with this video as it was taken with an Android smart phone! Reposting A Question
Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning an audio podcast I have been trying to download. I recently installed Quicktime on my machine in anticipation of getting something that uses that program to play the file! It used to be that when I would download these podcasts, it would give me the choice whether to listen or to save. Since I've put Quicktime on here, when I click the link, it immediately opens Quicktime and starts playing the file; this is _not_ want I want! Is there a way around this problem? Must I uninstall Qu9icktime in order to do what I want? I sure hope not, for what I am hoping to get (so it would seem) will only play in Quicktime; it's a video that was taken of a part of a country Christmas show our band was involved in! So if anyone can come up with a way around this problem I have (seems to me all I'd need to do is to tell Quicktime to just sit down and shut up until I need it.but I have found no way to accomplish this! Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Tom Kaufman

Why don't you just change the default programs in windows. I think you are using windows 7, so go into control and find default settings. when there, tab over to list view. hit a letter such as windows for windows media player and tab to where it says make default program, hit apply, then okay and see if that does what you want. - Original Message - From: Tom Kaufman tomca...@comcast.net To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2014 11:48 AM Subject: Reposting A Question Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning an audio podcast I have been trying to download. Good List, I posted a question last night but I didn't see it on the list so assume it is heading out past jupiter by now. Here it is again. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with any high end digital recorders. I have a Marantz PMD690 which has been discontinued. It only lasts about 1-1/2 hours on batteries and is difficult to use if you can't read the display. I'm looking for a broadcast quality stereo portable recorder that ideally would not require bulky XLR jacks. Marrantz now has the PMD660 and PMD670 that are stereo and small but I don't want to spend big bucks again with out knowing more about their accessibility. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Re: Reposting a question.
hey doug, Your message did come in. I don't have any experience with this such recorder, (none at all.) You may want to try the plextic-1, something along those lines. I'm not sure if it is what your looking for and if it is even has been released yet. best, Tyler - Original Message - From: Doug Wakefield [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'PC audio discussion list. Doug, for a thorough exploration on the world of currently available audio recorders, what they offer, and their accessibility to the blind, check out Tim comings recent interview with Brian Lang that appeared on Larry Skutchan's podcast Blind Cool tech, which can be found at: http://www.blindcooltech.com this and many related questions will be answered in that interview.
