I use both programs. SF is ideal if you are doing any audio restoration with
old tapes and records whereas SR all the functions are very accessible out
of the box and you just want straight recording/editing tools. SF works best
with JFW scripts if you use Jaws.

Firstly, its cheaper than Sound Forge Pro and its been designed with
accessibility in mind thus has a full feature set which is entirely

the manual is well laid out and easy to get to, I sent a link to that

Editing/navigating keystrokes are straight forward and easy to use, I
haven't found out yet whether it handles Daisy recordings but I suspect it
does given that Studio Recorder has a navigation menu which allows the
 navigation by sentence, paragraph etc.

That's a very subjective comment regarding Sound Forge, I know people I work
with who would have split and sore sides for a whole week if you told them that
Sound Forge was an ideal piece of software for restoration work, they use
something call StineBerg I think its called and they run a professional
Audio/Video restoration business, according to them the Restoration plugins in
SF are well over rated as is the software itself, again its a case of beauty
being in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Demo Of Studio Recorder

2014-02-11 Thread Dane Trethowan
If you say so smile, I don't do that sort of thing these days so perhaps
improvements have been made, I use Amadeus Prog and I've had no trouble with
that application, only cost $59 and I've been using it for 6 years, I'm just
very sorry that a version - at this point in time at any rate - isn't available
for Windows as the Amadeus Pro Swiss Army Knife Of Sund Editing offers
exceptional value for money.

I didn't really need to buy Studio Recorder to be perfectly honest, I already
have my Mac which I do most of my editing on and I have other Windows editing
solutions but the software did impress me I have to admit so I bought it.

Editing/navigating keystrokes are straight forward and easy to use, I

Firstly, its cheaper than Sound Forge Pro and its been designed with

Editing/navigating keystrokes are straight forward and easy to use, I

does given that Studio Recorder has a navigation menu which allows the

Its about $4-500 new -- I bought it many years ago and kept upgrading

is available for both Windows and the Mac. I tried version 8 on Windows

strange -- I think they have their own keyboard driver which interferes

You can make *.mp3 files, or *.wav files. It is very speech friendly,
including peak audible signaling, many ways to maintain correct audio
levels, phrase detection for speech as well as two other adjustable
parameters for pauses, punch-in or inserting recording with a single
button, and much else.
I don't understand why they inhibited all saving of recording with the
demo version, seems they could have limited the time available to save.
The cost is $200.

Re: Demo Of Studio Recorder

2014-02-11 Thread Curtis Delzer
SR does not as such make daisy recordings, but it correctly does the
heading levels 1 through 10 where daisy goes up to level 6, and the
program which makes daisy books, Book Wizard Producer handles the
levels from studio recorder and makes them headings for all the levels
you wish.

SR does not as such make daisy recordings, but it correctly does the
heading levels 1 through 10 where daisy goes up to level 6, and the
program which makes daisy books, Book Wizard Producer handles the
levels from studio recorder and makes them headings for all the levels
you wish.

I use both programs. SF is ideal if you are doing any audio restoration with
old tapes and records whereas SR all the functions are very accessible out

with JFW scripts if you use Jaws.

That's a very subjective comment regarding Sound Forge, I know people I
work with who would have split and sore sides for a whole week if you told

they use something call StineBerg I think its called and they run a
professional Audio/Video restoration business, according to them the
Restoration plugins in SF are well over rated as is the software itself,
again its a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

In Studio Recorder the exporting and saving of files is disabled, so far

Re: Demo Of Studio Recorder

2014-02-10 Thread Dane Trethowan
Firstly, its cheaper than Sound Forge Pro and its been designed with
accessibility in mind thus has a full feature set which is entirely accessible.

the manual is well laid out and easy to get to, I sent a link to that yesterday.

Editing/navigating keystrokes are straight forward and easy to use, I haven't
found out yet whether it handles Daisy recordings but I suspect it does given
that Studio Recorder has a navigation menu which allows the navigation by
sentence, paragraph etc.

Okay thanks, I'm looking at the manual for same right now and Studio Recorder
looks to be yet another item to add to my baskit of goodies, the manual covers

for audio editing and associated audio recording and editing terminology.

Re: Studio recorder question:

2008-11-10 Thread Kelly Pierce

don,

What isn't clear in the manual is that it is necessary to select wave view
in the view menu rather than time view. While blind people won't be
looking at wave patterns, former Sound Forge users like myself are used to
selecting pieces of audio with the shift and arrow keys and being able to
enlarge or shrink with the keyboard the increment that is selected. This
is called the zoom ratio. The time view doesn't use the zoom ratio for
selecting text. Realize that in Studio Recorder though shrinking or
expanding the zoom ratio is done with function keys rather than the up and
down arrow keys, which do something else.

I adjust selections by going to the beginning or end of a selection

Moving to Marks in Studio Recorder

I am using this program to read a large volume of material in braille.
How do I move to generic marks which I have placed in the file. I have

relevant is show marks. I tried it and found no way of moving to them.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

if one of the source of destination is too loud you have to re do it. Am I

Re: Studio Recorder

2007-01-26 Thread Peter Scanlon
Yes, playing one file and recording the other is a nice feature. Say you
want to record a voice ove a music backing but want make sure you finish
before the end of the track. Hearing the music track in the headphones gives
you an idea how long you have to the end of the track.

Once you record the second track you use the mix command.

If you're referring to the one put out by The American Printing House for

concerned, SR is definitely worth it to me. It works really well with
speech right out of the box, and one doesn't need scripts or set files to be
able to read the peek meters.

Re: studio recorder

2006-12-07 Thread Brian Hansen
Studio Recorder for recording, and editing, is much easier right out of the
box to use with speech than Sound Forge. Through the use of the Snowman's
scripts for Sound Forge, SF is easier to use with JFW, but for just straight
forward ready to go, SR wins hands down. And APH is continually listening
to the SR users and adding new features.

Yes, you can move through the file just like with the Snowman's scripts, as

 need to try this one.

 Is it multi track?

I have Sound forge 6 and with the Snowman scripts I get the ability
to move through the file with the sound responding as I move. Will it do
 this?

Does it any Daisy Creating ability?

I guess I should go read the info on the web pages, but does it have
 any CD ripping/ burning ability?

2006-05-15 Thread Doc
From what I've read in the manual your answer is yes! what I wish it had is
a means of only recording when it has a sound source. that way if I'm
recording a tape and have to step away it will stop recording when the tape
finishes.

I have been using Sound Forge for years, but the way you guys talk I
need to try this one.

Studio Recorder is a really nice program that enables one to edit/record,
create or playback MP3's in the background via background processing, do
sound on sound and/or multi-track mixing of any type of audio. Not only
 can
it be used for regular music, but it also has the capabilities of working
with and creating spoken word content for 4-track books. The other nice
thing is that one doesn't need any custom scripts or set files to get
started. It works quite well with screen readers right out of the box.
There is currently a full-featured public beta available for people to
 download and test-drive at:
 http://www.aph.org/beta

Re: Studio Recorder

2006-05-14 Thread Darrell Shandrow
Hey Jonathan,

I currently use Sound Forge. Most of the problems I have with it do not
actually relate to accessibility concerns as much as a lack of overall
responsiveness during editing functions. I looked in the features list for
Studio Recorder but did not find the answer to this question. Does Studio
Recorder allow you to scan the audio or scrub while editing?

Thanks.

In the beginning, that may be how it started out, and it was maybe
 marketed
toward the spoken word, but it works quite well for music and other audio

 say
that I use it more than I do Sound Forge. Plus some of it's spoken word
features work great when it comes to breaking up large files with multiple
 songs into individual files.

Re: Studio Recorder

2006-05-14 Thread Brian Hansen
As of right now, no it doesn't have any FX. Other users, as well as myself
who are members of the Studio Recorder user group have suggested adding
DirectX support, so I know that's on APH's suggestions and improvements list
for possible future versions. Rob Meredith, who is the programmer for
Studio Recorder is at least willing to be open to suggestions and new ideas,
so who knows.

Studio Recorder is a really nice program that enables one to edit/record,
create or playback MP3's in the background via background processing,
 do
sound on sound and/or multi-track mixing of any type of audio. Not only
 can
it be used for regular music, but it also has the capabilities of working
with and creating spoken word content for 4-track books. The other nice
thing is that one doesn't need any custom scripts or set files to get
started. It works quite well with screen readers right out of the box.
There is currently a full-featured public beta available for people to
 download and test-drive at:
 http://www.aph.org/beta

Try the www.aph.org. There you can read the entire manual, as well as the
 blurb in the catalog.

Re: studio recorder.

2005-01-28 Thread Brian Hansen
I use it all the time for my editing and recording. If I remember
correctly, it's got a demo mode, but I don't think the demo will allow a
person to save their work.

Blessings,

Brian

Re: studio recorder.

2005-01-28 Thread Brian Hansen
If you're wanting something for multi-track recording and mixing, then it
won't work, but if you're wanting to just do normal audio recording and
editing, it's great. Yes it does have features for working with spoken
audio i.e. 4-track books, and things like that, but it's all I use for my
normal every-day recording of music, or internet broadcasts.

Blessings,

Brian

It does work with music, but its settings and features are really
  geared for
voice recording. It has features such as sentence detection which
  are handy
for navigating through spoken word files. It does have a nice clean

interface, making it pretty easy to learn and use. And of course, it
  was
designed especially with screen access in mind, so there's no
  question about
  it being speech friendly.
