 High Tyler,
 I am a DJ myself.
I can tell you what a mixer is and what it does.
Think about having a preamp that has many inputs for each audio source.
In a home stereo, all of the audio sources are selected by some kind of
 a
 selector switch.
Now lets replace the source selector switch with volume control knobs
 for
 each source.
Now that you have a volume control knob for each audio source, you can
 play
2 CD's or records back to back if you wanted to.
And or, you can do something that is called looping.
The microphone just lets you talk over the music wile it's playing.
This is called a voice over.
For microphones, there are two kinds of connections.
There is the 1-4th inch connecter, and the XLR connecter.
The impedance are different on both of these connecters.
The XLR is high impedance, the 1-4th inch is low impedance.
There is no real difference in the way these 2 microphones pick up
 sound.
They both work on the same principle.
Basically, a mixer lets you mix sound.
I hope this info really helps you a whole bunch.
And I hope now you have a better understanding of what this is.
  John.

 Hi,

I've been listening to someones radio show and they mentioned in there
 about
they got a new mixer. What exactly is a mixer and how does it work? I'm
using sam broadcaster, and am trying to get this here radio show running
smoothly. What programs do you guys recommend? And is there a way for me
 to
patch in skype calls via my soundcard without this thing echoing like
hell...its getting a bit annoying (Someone will call. I'll be like ok, we
have a call here. Most people have speakers, which is really annoying,
 but
anyway, I say hi, blah blah, but when they speak, i get horrible
 loopback.
Not sure what to do about this). I have a few choices as to soundcards.
 One
desktop has a SiS 7018, this laptop, which I use most of the time, just
 has
a connecsant, and my other desktop has an SB live.. They all have stario
mix, and sometime or other I plan on seeing which sounds the best, but
 what
other factors come into play here? ram, processor speed? I'd like to be
 able
to play a song and talk at the same time- I heard you can't do that in
 winamp?

 Thanks,
 Tyler

Subject: mixer and some radio show help?

Hi,

I've been listening to someones radio show and they mentioned in there about
they got a new mixer. What exactly is a mixer and how does it work? I'm
using sam broadcaster, and am trying to get this here radio show running
smoothly. What programs do you guys recommend? And is there a way for me to
patch in skype calls via my soundcard without this thing echoing like
hell...its getting a bit annoying (Someone will call. I'll be like ok, we
have a call here. Most people have speakers, which is really annoying, but
anyway, I say hi, blah blah, but when they speak, i get horrible loopback.
Not sure what to do about this). I have a few choices as to soundcards. One
desktop has a SiS 7018, this laptop, which I use most of the time, just has
a connecsant, and my other desktop has an SB live.. They all have stario
mix, and sometime or other I plan on seeing which sounds the best, but what
other factors come into play here? ram, processor speed? I'd like to be able
to play a song and talk at the same time- I heard you can't do that in
winamp?

Thanks,
Tyler

Re: mixer and some radio show help?

2008-01-23 Thread Tyler Wood
My radio show is at
http://wolftech.redirectme.net:8000

Ok, what are these different kinds of connections? I currently have a
headset/mic connection, (I hate it) and will soon be getting a mic that
plugs directly into my soundcard. I don't have a mixer, because, can you
explain to me exactly what they look like and what there used for?

thanks
Tyler

PS: the radio show I was listening to is Brandon Hix Heavily Influenced.

Its on TBRN (http://www.tbrn.net), i love that kind of music, though I'm
stil in the process of looking for a good file sharing utility (bear share
is really retarded with the later versions of jaws, etc).

You can do that, but you need multiple sound cards, one for the music, one
for skype, and you bring them in on different channels of the mixer,
adjusting their respective volumes and you on the mixer use a microphone
either with a quarter inch connection or a XLR connection which is the
 preferred way.

You can locate a mixer which has 4 channels, which would be ideal for your
situation, and what show are you listening too and what is yours and where
would someone be able to find it
