Hi

I can't say that's ever happened to me, nope. Pretty much every
inaudible conversion i've ever done has worked flawlessly, every time.

Thanks.

Hello Ketan, the only way I can think of to convert Audible books is to record
them while they are playing. I have had limited success with Sound Taxi. I
normally set Goldwave to record, and tell it to auto save and shut down
afterthe book has finished, and let it record overnight. I then use Q points
to split the file into sections. Hope this helps.

I have installed Goldwave 5.70 demo and audible filter and tried to use batch
processing to convert audible file which I got from download folder of Audible
manager. As soon as I begin the process, it does not ask me for username and
password and converts the file into jibberish. What am I doing wrong? Can

use goldwave in demo mode?

The suggestion is good except that the book is 19 hours long and to
record that amount would take ages. Any other suggestion please?

In that case, what you can do is find a good place to stop when you need to use
the computer, and start recording from where you left off the next night. When
I tried using Sound Taxi, it would sometimes include audio from other sources
which I did not want. Hope this helps.

re audible books for dane

2013-12-19 Thread brian parker
Hi dane, thanks for your message. my computer crashed a few days ago,
and it had to be brought back with the recovery disc. this meant that
i lost several programmes. i had been using sound taxi to convert
audible files in to mp3. sound taxi uses itunes. itunes was one of
the programmes i had to reinstall. sound taxi can't use the itunes i
now have loaded. now when i call up itunes, it says that it can't
reach the itunes library, as it was created by a newer version of
itunes. presumably, it means a newer version than the one i have now
installed. why the library from the previous version of itunes is
still hanging about, i don't know. well, there it is. i have sent a
message to audible. the first message i sent they answered quickly.
they asked me a number of questions, which i answered in my second
message. they also suggested that we might find it quicker to gets
things right, by phone. however, when i have spoken to audible in
the past, i have found them difficult to understand, especially as
the person at the other end is always to quiet. i don't know what to
do. i wondered if there is some way of destroying the library from
the previous version of itunes. perhaps then it would look for its
own library. brian.

this is all to do with amazon i think. they are changing it and not caring

RE: AUDIBLE BOOKS

2013-05-08 Thread Stephen Guerra
Since the new update has not been released, making the statement you made
that Audible support will not be supported is probably a statement best left
for HumanWare to make.
Audible has stated that it will continue to support the VR Stream new
edition in a public released statement.

should have looked at the format of the audible book I already had on my

There's no doubt that even the accessible site is somewhat clunky especially
on the account and library links. I would suggest using your screen readers
command to list the available links and see if that helps you find the
specific links you are looking for.

Hi clifford, i did what you suggested, and although it wasn't what i was
used to, i found what i wanted. i have lost the message from the other
member who did me the favour of answering me. i found the box for search
for a book, and put in spartan gold, it came up with the answer, not
found. this was rediculous, as i have already downloaded this book from
audible. anyway, i still can't find my library. i enquired from audible
yesterday. they told me that they were working on the site, and suggested
i tried later. for what it is worth, i am sending that suggestion on to
you. brian.

Hi Jo,

Please don't give up and throw away your credits, if you feel audible are
not providing you suitable support, then contact someone higher up in
audible or perhaps an independant body to help you. At the bare minimum if
they are unable to support you, they should offer you a full refund of your
total un-used credits, as they are failing to provide yyou a service.

Which screen reader do you use? I am currently using nvda and IE8 and was
able to download books from my libary since the recent changes. However, I
haven't tried searching for new books or buying new books on the new site.

Re: re audible

2013-05-06 Thread Gary King
As far as I can tell, the so-called accessible site is just a page that was
created as a work-around for the 3 items with the new submenus at the top of
the regular home page, namely, your greeting, Library, and Shop Audible.
The accessible page displays the links that you would find on these submenus
if they worked consistently with your screen reader. Unfortunately, these
submenus do not work consistently with a screen reader even when you follow
the spoken instructions. This is why it is necessary to use the accessible
page.

If you want to use all of the features of Audible though, you will need to
use both the regular home page and the accessible page, whichever works best
in a particular situation. Also, be aware that on the regular home page,
the My Library link is now shortened to Library; on some other Audible
pages, it is still displayed as My Library.

The only problems I've had with downloading books are slower download speeds
and quite a few stops and restarts. The Search For A Good Book edit box
on the regular home page usually finds what I'm searching for using the
title, key words or author.

Do you have the softpack for the Stream? I presume this is a first generation
stream. If you don't have the softpack, the enhanced audio format is not
supported by the Stream. If you do have the softpack, I'm not sure why the
Audible book won't play.

I believe you can format the card through the Stream. I know you can format
the card with an external disc reader.

I assume these are DRM protected correct? If so, I used to use a program
called Sound Taxi when I converted DRM WMA books from Overdrive.com. I
assume it would work with Audible as well though. It is not a free
program though. The original setup required some use of the JAWS cursor,
but once it was set up, it was pretty much automatic.

If these aren't DRM protected then I used to use a program called Switch
from NCH. The free version of this program took care of all of my audio
conversion needs.

Re: audible

2012-02-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
According to the web page
http://www.soundtaxi.org/soundtaxi_audio_conversion_Audible.php this is
supported. I'm not saying it doesn't violate your terms of condition
with Audible, but at least according to the Sound Taxi web site, this is
technically possible. I also noticed that Quicktime is a prerequisite
for Sound Taxi, so this also lends some credibility to that statement.

To test it, you can download Sound Taxi for free and use it in trial
mode. It's fully functional, but it'll only convert a few minutes of
audio. This is enough to see if it's going to work or not.

The Platinum version costs $20, but I'd suggest upgrading to the pro
version for $27. It's only $7 more, and the performance makes it worth
the price if you're going to be using Sound Taxi to convert more than
just a handful of files.

Holger,
I called Audible Customer Service this morning and posed the question about
access to my books after termination of membership. The lady assured me
that I would continue to have access to my books both on my computers and
portable devices. I would also be able to access My Library on AUDIBLE.COM.
Finally, I would be able to activate new devices, provided I did not go
beyond the limits they set. If one of my devices was no longer in
operation, I would be able to call them and get my device limit reset.

This information should reassure you and other subscribers that access to

Depends on where you purchase them from. I'd suggest checking out the
terms and conditions of the site where you're purchasing your books,
Audible in this case. Does Audible allow you to burn their books to a CD
or copy them to an MP3 player? I'm not sure about Audible's terms and
conditions or how they enforce their DRM strategy, but I would assume
you can still listen to your Audible books even after you leave Audible.
You'd still be bound by the terms and conditions that you agreed to when
you bought the books though. I'm not exactly sure what you're objecting
to though, since I don't see the message you're replying to below.

It's been a long time since I've used Audible, and I don't think I have
the books I bought from Audbile around any more. I guess I should
probably check that Windows system where I put them, but I'm sure those
books are up on BARD by now. I've used Overdrive.com though, but that's
a bit different. I never purchased a book from Overdrive.com, I was just
borrowing them, and I obviously had to agree to get rid of any copies
I'd made when the lending period was over.

As long as you have the hidden Audible activation file on your computer and

Converting Audible to MP3 [was Re: audible]

2012-02-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I assume these are DRM protected correct? If so, I used to use a program
called Sound Taxi when I converted DRM WMA books from Overdrive.com. I
assume it would work with Audible as well though. It is not a free
program though. The original setup required some use of the JAWS cursor,
but once it was set up, it was pretty much automatic.

If these aren't DRM protected then I used to use a program called Switch
from NCH. The free version of this program took care of all of my audio
conversion needs.

It isw worth noting that when you sign on with Audible, you agree not
to convert your programs to another format. You might not like the
restriction. But they specifically prohibit you from doing that, so
doing it and then discussing means of so doing on an public email olist
doesn't seem like the smartest idea.

You can burn the audible books to cd or use any number of portable
devices or a pc or Mac. But you don't get to get rid of the drm and
make them in to a format that you could copy and give away to as many
folks as you want. You buy the right to use the material under the
restrictions they set forth in their user agreement. By purchasing the
material, you agree to live within their rules.

I don't see the message you're referring to, but obviously, once you
purchase something you can't do whatever you want with it. I can not buy
a CD and then start reproducing it at will to either give it away or to
resell. I couldn't do the same thing with a book either.

There is the fair use concept in the US legal system, where you're
allowed to make backups or copies of a CD, VCR or the like for your own
personal use, but Audible is allowed to ask you to waive this right to
use their services. Bottom line, regardless of what you think, you are
bound by the terms and conditions of the agreements you enter into.

2012-02-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I didn't see anything on Audible's purchase conditions about needing to
continue to have an active account with Audible. I'm sure the media
player needs to check that your license is valid, but I too would be
surprised if it's actually checking that you have an active account with
Audible. Your Audible ready portable media players are obviously not all
going to be able to do this. Your PC, laptop, netbook, ..., may not
always have access to the network either. I'd assume you could still
listen to your book or other Audible purchase though.

You are allowed to make one copy to a CD or other tangible media. You're
also encouraged to back your purchases up. The purchase terms also say
your license exists as long as you have a copy of the material, although
there's some legalese wrapped around this statement.

Your purchase terms are at: http://mobile.audible.com/purchTerms.htm

If you have downloaded the player, how can they stop you using it?

yes. you can burn them but if you have over 100 books that will be to
 much.
You need to be able to subscribe to audible to hear the books. I am
 here in
Chicago and I think it is the same allover the great USA.

I figured once we purchased books, they were ours.
What is wrong with that picture?
I am not happy about that.

Re: Audible and Windows Media Player 12

2010-04-22 Thread Rob Tabor

Hi, Sam.
If you want to install or reinstall WMP 12 the logical place to begin would
be to log into microsoft.com and run a sight search for Windows Media Player
12. I have Version 11 on my home and work systems and wasn't aware that MS
had even upgraded WMP. If WMP has in fact been upgraded this should get you
to the link to download the update. Good luck.

Subject: Audible and Windows Media Player 12

Hello, I am have just found I am unable to play Audible books in Enhanced
audio on Windows Media Player 12. I used to be able to but now I can not.
I
tried restoring to an earlier system restore point but the earliest
restore
point was at too later date. Whenever I try and play it, it doesn't bring
up

the section navigation dialog which it used to. It doesn't even play
anything. It looks visually normal. It will play Format 4 files however I
have some books which don't sound good in format 4 and only really work in
enhanced audio. Audible have not been able to find a solution. I have been
look in the control panel of windows recently and am not sure whether my
tinkering has caused this to happen. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Audible Manager without success. I am using Windows 7 and, as
far as I know, there is no way to download Windows Media Player 12. Does
anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Rob, I tried looking for Windows Meida Plyaer 12 on Microsoft and I
couldn't find anything. I could only find information and I don't think any
other versions work on Windows 7.
