2014-11-25 Thread ken reed

   Hi Joe.

here's how you do it.
The shift l marks the beginning of a file.
The shift r marks the end of a file or selection.
Ones these are marked and you hit the delete key you delete the selection.
If you want to save the selection,
look in the edit menu and save selection. also
you can go to the files menu and save selection there.
Hope that helps.

Subject: splitting files, automatic stop and screen reader sound stop

Hello, All,

Happy Thanksgiving!

A couple of weeks back someone on this list recommended that I use
Totalrecorder to split a file into separate tracks.

Looking at the manual, I see that there's automatic stop and the ability
to suppress speech from screen readers.

The manual is very confusing to me. I prefer step by step instructions as to
how to do various tasks. Information is scattered throughout and I don't
know which items I should look at in order to accomplish my requirements.

Some of the screens in the program are not labeled so I was not able to
figure out whether a box works with seconds, minutes or even megabytes.

I realize it would be a time consuming project to write out all the steps,
but perhaps someone can point the way so I can figure out how to accomplish
these things.

Further to this, the Cue file is a standard text file which can be loaded into
a Text Editor, take a look at the top of the file and you should see several
comment lines, these are identifiable by the REM prefix, in this section you
should find a line which states the software used to create the Cue sheet in
the first place.

Its also possible that the Cue sheet itself is enbedded in the FLAC file in
which case you can run the FLAC file past any decent CD ripping software for
splitting into tracks in different formats such as MP3, AAC, FLAC itself, Wave
etc, the XLD ripper will handle this well, not sure about Easy CD Converter but
it should surely!

You can manually split the file into tracks, going track by track. Press
B at the beginning of the track and then press N at the end of the track.
Press CTRL+E to save this selected track to a new file. You do this for
each track and you will have a separate MP3 file for each track.

You can manually split the file into tracks, going track by track. Press
B at the beginning of the track and then press N at the end of the track.
Press CTRL+E to save this selected track to a new file. You do this for
each track and you will have a separate MP3 file for each track.

2009-09-14 Thread dean martineau
You can also use the Pause Detection feature on the Special menu to detect
pauses and set cue points which can be used to automatically split the file.
I haven't done much of this but that's the theory and it probably works
pretty well if you get your pause length right.

Hi
I'm looking for advice either on using Windows Media Player 11 or on how to
split MP3 files quickly and easily.
Recently I downloaded a 10 hour mp3 book. I can speed it up in Windows Media
Player but on using the Seek option or Fast Forward one I keep getting stuck
on the increments Media player allows. I cannot seem just to fast forward to
the place I stopped so I can restart.
If I were to cut up the file, say in Gold Wave, is there an easy way of
specifying the sections to break it into, then saving each into more
manageable files for playback in WMP at the fast speed?

the easiest way is to
1. shift e (set marker)
2. tab twice to the finish marker and type in the length of the segment and
then press enter
3 use the rewind key f5 to make sure you are not in the middle of a word. If
you are then control shift right arrow moves the finish marker to the right
When you have the segment you want
open the file menu and press v to save selection
you may name this whatever you like
when that selection is saved delete it and then press control a to reselect
the remainder.

I believe gold waveis your best bet. As for recognizing the silences you can
use the
fast foward (f6) (be sure to chage it to 5.0 for the fastest speed.) when you
get to
the division between calls press f7 (pause) then control q to the cue point.
Once
all your cue points set are set enter the edit menu to split the file. Then at
your
leisure you can annalize them.
I believe I have the scripts for cool edit. I will send them off list to you

Hello everyone,

Please be forewarned, I'm a pc tech by training but I'm not an audio expert,
so please be gentle with me because I'm in dire need of your expert
assistance.smile

I am supposed to start a job this week where I need to record and then
listen to tech support calls from agents taking live calls for an internet
provider. My job is to split these calls into separate files and save them.
My boss is doing this visually by looking at the wave forms. I'm familiar
with the concept of wave forms, and I can read the negative, 0 numbers, and
the positive numbers with the JAWS cursor. Unfortunately, using Cool Edit
and JAWS 8.0, the software they are using, I can't seem to tell where one
call begins and where the that call ends and then where the next call
begins. I'm supposed to record the calls, separate them, save each one into
a separate file, rate it in terms of quality, and send my feedback to the
powers that be.

Because I couldn't find the Cool Edit scripts, I downloaded Gold wave
5.22 and the new JAWS scripts. Gold wave looks more promising, I read the
manual and it appears that I should be able to do what I need to do, but it
is confusing because when I receive my file of calls, I don't know ahead of
time how long the calls are and where the silences are so that I can save
each call as a different file.

Thanks for your patience, folks. My questions are these: Can I do this
with Cool Edit, that is what my colleagues are using? Or should I use
something else like Gold wave, Audacity, or Sound Forge? There are other
people with disabilities at the job site, but I'm the only blind person. I
will try to use what works best if it isn't Cool Edit, but I'll have to
convince my boss that this would better.

If you'd rather not clutter up the list, please feel free to email me

2007-11-06 Thread Larry N
Hi Beth. I have most of the popular sound editors onboard and when it comes
to splitting files, I would recommend GoldWave. In my own work, I use it for
that purpose every day. Not only is it easy to split files, but the cost is
only around $50, which should make it easier to sell your employer on the
purchase. The entire program is very easy to use with a screen reader and,
as has been noted here, scripts are available for Jaws users. It will
definitely do what you need it to do quickly and efficiently.

Hi, you can use GoldWave to auto separate calls for you, making them files
automatically, as long as there is a known area of silence between the
calls. It is quite a unique ability, better than Sound Forge which is not as
speech friendly for that option. I don't know about Cool Edit in that
regard.

 Hello everyone,

Please be forewarned, I'm a pc tech by training but I'm not an audio
 expert,
so please be gentle with me because I'm in dire need of your expert
 assistance.smile

I am supposed to start a job this week where I need to record and then
listen to tech support calls from agents taking live calls for an internet
provider. My job is to split these calls into separate files and save
 them.
My boss is doing this visually by looking at the wave forms. I'm familiar
with the concept of wave forms, and I can read the negative, 0 numbers,
 and
the positive numbers with the JAWS cursor. Unfortunately, using Cool Edit
and JAWS 8.0, the software they are using, I can't seem to tell where one
call begins and where the that call ends and then where the next call
begins. I'm supposed to record the calls, separate them, save each one
 into
a separate file, rate it in terms of quality, and send my feedback to the
 powers that be.

Because I couldn't find the Cool Edit scripts, I downloaded Gold wave
5.22 and the new JAWS scripts. Gold wave looks more promising, I read the
manual and it appears that I should be able to do what I need to do, but
 it
is confusing because when I receive my file of calls, I don't know ahead
 of
time how long the calls are and where the silences are so that I can save
each call as a different file.

Thanks for your patience, folks. My questions are these: Can I do
 this
with Cool Edit, that is what my colleagues are using? Or should I use
something else like Gold wave, Audacity, or Sound Forge? There are other
people with disabilities at the job site, but I'm the only blind person.
 I
will try to use what works best if it isn't Cool Edit, but I'll have to
convince my boss that this would better.

If you'd rather not clutter up the list, please feel free to email me
privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you in advance for any help or
 suggestions!

Hello Curtis and all,

The wav file I have here as a sample is about 11 minutes long. I am told

couldn't tell whether these were the actual call or the silences between

Hello Larry and all,

I have Gold Wave 5.22 and the latest JAWS scripts and JAWS 8.0 on my machine
using Windows XP. As I said earlier, sorry for repeating myself, the sample
wav file I have is 11 minutes long. I figured out in Gold Wave that it is
possible to do some auto queuing and to view the queues, but since I'm not
sure what I'm doing, I wasn't sure if what I was hearing were the actual
calls or the silences between them. I also have a fun program to try to
make work that uses JAVA and where Java Access Bridge seems to make no
difference, so I'm having so much fun with this, you wouldn't believe
it.smile

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Splitting Files with Cool Edit or Other Audio Program, Urgent, Job Related

2007-11-06 Thread Curtis Delzer
Try the options for auto split in your *.wav file, it searches for silences
of a length you can determine beforehand, (used primarily for making audio
cassettes into digital single file(s)) and see if that will do the job for
you. The menu looks like this:
Split File
Destination folder: rank\The Diary of a Young Girl, Definitive Edition 1995
Overwrite existing files
 Method of naming split files
Use cue name for filename
Use base filename and number
Use cue name prefixed with base filename and number
Base filename: track### -
First number: 1
Prefix original filename
 File format
Use CD compatible wave format and alignment
Use default save format and attributes
Use file's current format and attributes
OK Cancel Help

Some of those are radio buttons for other choices to be used. That menu is
under q point which is under edit, in gold wave. It works, and it will
do what you want.
I recorded that book for my collection to a single 10 hour *.wav file at
22,050Hz mono, and had GoldWave split it into sections which had 3 or more
second pauses in it. You can use any amount of silence you wish, and can
adjust the threshold of silence to be handled, the point at which you wish
queue points to be automatically dropped, and much more.
GoldWave will then split the file from the beginning to the end into
numbered file(s) automatically for you. Experimentation and adjustments
might be necessary, but it works wonderfully.

Re: Splitting Files with Cool Edit or Other Audio Program, Urgent, Job Related

2007-11-06 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
Cool Edit can search for silences - and you can set the level and duration
of the silence - it then puts in cue points if you remove the silences where
the silences have been removed and then you can run through them by cue
points or split the file into separate files, automatically renaming them.
My only uncertainty is as to how the program will find silences - will you
make it so that between phone calls you will have digital silence so it's
easily found or will there be any noise there. Also if there are pauses in
conversation, will these be seen as silences? If you can ensure against that
I don't see why Cool Edit shouldn't work.
Regards.

Hi Beth
I could certainly send you the Cool Edit scripts or links to it depending on
your version of Cool edit. Also depending on your version ;you can set up a
keypress to fast forward and rewing while listening to the speeded up
version of the file. Adobe Audition 1 and 1.5 is the follow on to Cool Edit
and can do both with scripts.

manual and it appears that I should be able to do what I need to do, but
 it
is confusing because when I receive my file of calls, I don't know ahead
 of
time how long the calls are and where the silences are so that I can save
each call as a different file.

 Beth

Re: Splitting tracks in Sound ForgeRe: new rechargeable ready to go:

2007-09-19 Thread Curtis Delzer
Put a mark at the beginning and end of each track, go to the beginning,
press the letter I, go to the end, press the letter O, press the letter R
and you can name each region. Then, when you're all done, hit alt-t for
tools, X, to extract regions to files, and you will have your list of
regions. All are selected by default, and then you can designate a place to
put them.

Subject: Splitting tracks in Sound ForgeRe: new rechargeable ready to go:

I believe this is probably a simple issue, but I'm having trouble finding
the solution in Sound Forge eight's PDF manual.

I want to divide trakds after transferring them from a vinyl album to the
computer. Up to now, I've performed the task in GoldWave, which, as
mentioned in another post, hasn't been working for me lately. Can someone
tell me how to do this in Sound Forge 8 using Window-Eyes?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the instructions on how to split files in Sound Forge. I know the

Re: splitting long shows into smaller files using Replay A/V 8.04

2007-02-10 Thread Jeff Samco
Hi, Chris,
All I can offer to you is to say you correctly described the way of
having a recording automatically split every 60 minutes. I have used
the same settings to split a 3-hour recording I do daily into 3 60
minute files. In the Split tab I have nothing else checked nor
entered with data. I suggest you do some experimenting with short
splits of a minute or 2 so you can do some immediate verification,
until you can have it working.

Jeff

into smaller files, 1 hour in length each. It just makes it easier
to navigate a long show like that.

Ok, so I went into the ssplitting tab of the preferences, and if you
use your screenreader's review cursor, there are several different
fields you can fill in, depending on when you want the file to
split. So first I checked the box that says, split tracks every,
followed by a value of 60, thinking that it would split the file into
4 smaller ones, one for each hour of the show. I left the other
fields alone because they just determine other times a ffile can be
split, so I left those alone.
Well, as you can probably guess, it didn't work for whatever reason.
I got absolutely no recording when I did this, and I'm just wondering
if I'm doing something wrong? unfortunately, the fields in that
particular dialogue aren't very easily read when you press your tab
key at least with JAWS 8.0 they aren't. When you press your tab key,
you hear, split tracks at edit, split tracks at edit, split tracks at
edit...it's really confusing. To make sure i'm absolutely clear here,
let's say I'm recording a show that lasts 4 hours long. What I'd
like to do is to split the recording of this show into 4 smaller
files, 1 hour each.
i know other programs can do this task as well, but when I record a
show, I would like for replay A/V to do it automatically. i don't
want to have to record the show and then load this big file into
sound forge and then split it up. I know Replay A/V can do it, I just
need to work out how to do it exactly. So if anyone can help that'd
be wonderful.

2006-09-01 Thread Doc
I'm afraid you will have to name each one separately. There are many
programs that will split and give a basic name for each track such as track
01 or 02 track but I my self know of no program that will let you prename
each track before the splitting. I could be wrong.

Re: splitting large files revisited

2006-03-05 Thread Andy
Hi Betsy.

9.16.4. Automatically Dropping Que Points into Spaces in Music

Files and at Specified Intervals in a file

If you have a whole recorded album of several tracks in a single

file and you would like to automatically detect the silent spaces

between each individual track and get a que point dropped in the

middle of these silent spaces you can do so. You might want to

do this prior to then using the Split Files feature which is

also in the Edit, Que Points sub-menu. Do this by:

1. With your whole file album of tracks open, press ALT E, O and

then ENTER.

2. SHIFT TAB back to Auto Que and press ENTER.

3. You should be in the Mark Silence sheet but if you are not,

press CONTROL TAB to get there.

4. By default, spaces of at least 1.5 seconds only will get que

points inserted into them. You can change some of these

parameters if you like, e.g. change the 1.5 to 1.0 for one minute

if the album you are automatically dropping que points into has

only short gaps between tracks. When finished, just press ENTER

to start the procedure.

5. TAB to Close and press ENTER.

9.16.5. Using Que Points to Split a file or Album into Several

Separate Files or Tracks

If you would like to split a long file into separate individual

files, such as sections, chapters or separate music tracks from

a single track recorded album, you can do this provided that your

sound file is in one of a few formats, including WAV and Apple

formats. Do this by:

1. If your file has not already had que points dropped in it in

the appropriate places, e.g. between music tracks, do this first.

2. With your long speech file or whole music album open in the

Sound window, press ALT E (for Edit), O (for Que Point) and then

S (for Split File).

3. The split files will go to your normal saving destination

folder, unless you change this.

4. TAB to a list of possible formats just before the destination

folder browsing tree and ensure that Use CD Compatible Wave

Format and Alignment is selected if you are splitting music

tracks up to then burn onto a CD. This not only ensures the

correct Cd sector burning points for the music tracks but it also

converts the files to the correct bit rate, sampling rate, etc,

format for Cd burning as well.

5. TAB to OK and press ENTER.

6. That is as easy as it is simply to get such split up tracks

saved in your default saving folder. They will automatically be

given filenames such as Track01.wav, Track02,wav, etc.

Note: In the above split files dialogue, if you like, you can

change the starting file/track numbering start point from such

as track01.wav to, say, track04.wav. You might want to do this

to avoid earlier saved tracks being over-written or to avoid one

or more of your tracks not being saved at all because of other

files already being in the folder with that same name. This

starting track number point will be remembered by GoldWave, so

be sure to change it back to 1 the next time you use this

feature.

 Buddy,

Get over it. The fact is Jaws scripting has enhanced Winamp to the
 point
where it is more than a half decent audio player. The problem is you're
 too
dumb to recognise this fact. So be that is it may and let others who
benefit from Jaws scripting be free of your lack of intelligence.

With Jaws, you really can't beat Winamp even though it is a bit
 nonstandard
in its keyboard commands. The scripts for that program, which come

 Buddy,

Get over it. The fact is Jaws scripting has enhanced Winamp to the
 point
where it is more than a half decent audio player. The problem is
 you're
 too
dumb to recognise this fact. So be that is it may and let others who
benefit from Jaws scripting be free of your lack of intelligence.

With Jaws, you really can't beat Winamp even though it is a bit
 nonstandard
in its keyboard commands. The scripts for that program, which come
automatically installed with Jaws, show what really good scripting
 can
 do

Hi Tracey.
I'd use GoldWave because it's cheep and I do quite a lot of this kind of
stuff. If you only want it for this one piece of work, there is a small
program called mp3 cut or something like that.

Best wishes.

Since you've asked for shortcut keys as well, I'm again appealing to anyone
who has total recorder professional for help in scheduling a recording and
using the tuner to tune in a station. Like you I'd also like hot keys for

Hello Anthony:
you could use either
1. gold wave
2 mp3 clip
both of them work great but goldwave is much quicker and you can do more
with it.
you can find the mp3 clip on the jfwlite home page under programs
http://www.jfwlite.com
also there is a link for the goldwave page where you can try out a demo.

Ann, yes, there is a setting for seconds but I don't recall just where I saw
it.
Successful splitting does vary from one file to another because the files
are not generally as clean consistent as we would hope. I once split a
file which finished so fast I thought it had failed, but when I found the
word found the number 17 was in front of it there were indeed 18 files,
I think you always get one extra.
The Jaws cursor is required to find things.

Hey Janet and thanks. As it happens I have Goldwave but haven't been
able
 to
figure out how to split files with it. I can trim them by pressing
 shift+e,
tabbing to the beginning and end points of the file, entering times
 for
beginning and end and then pressing control+t to trim the file.
However,
 if
I did that with this one by indicating the beginning and end of the
first
track and then pressed control+t, I would lose the remainder of the
file,
which in this case would be numerous tracks. I do believe that the
 process
for splitting tracks may be similar to what I've described here, but I
 can't
 figure out the necessary steps.

Hi everyone. What I have here is 1 huge wave file consisting of
  ten
tracks and I want to splet it into ten individual tracks. Any
 suggestions
as to what software to use to accomplish this task? I have a
  program
 that
will easily do this for Windows Media files, but I don't want to
keep
converting the file type back and forth. Could Goldwave do the job?
I
suspect so, but thus far I've only managed to get it to trim the
  excess
sound off of the beginning and end of the one large wave file. I
don't
mind purchasing shareware to complete my task as long as it's
  within
reason. Also, I would prefer to do the job by marking the file at
the
points where I want to split it. I've tried programs that split
files
automatically and have been less than impressed with results. Can
 anyone
suggest the best method of doing what I need to do here?

  My thanks for the expertise.

I do believe that the
 process
for splitting tracks may be similar to what I've described here, but
 I
 can't
 figure out the necessary steps.

Subject: splitting a large wave file into smaller files using GoldWave

Hi Sunsparkle, Larry and anyone who is interested in this topic.
To split a single file which contains multiple tracks into individual
files
using Goldwave.

1. Open the file you wish to split and if necessary, save it immediately
as
a WAV file.

2. Press F4 to start listening to the file.
3. When you have reached the point were you wish to split, press F7 to
pause, then do a Control Q, to drop a q point at that point.
NOTE: If you overshoot the point were you wish to cut, press F5 to rewind
back.
NOTE. If you wish to slow down the speed of rewind, do the following.
1. Press F11 and TAB until you hear Fast/Rewind Speed, Rewind. This will
be followed by numbers. Change these temporary to 0.10. This will
significantly slow down the rewind speed. Press OK.
Continue dropping q points until you have reached the end of the file.
4. Press AltE F and arrow up once to Q Points and press Enter. Select
Split
File from the list of options.

5. You will be prompted for a location to send the individual files to, so
complete this and press Enter.
All you need do now if necessary is convert the files back to mp3
individually by opening each file and changing the Save As option.
Alternatively, there is a Batch process in Goldwave which can convert
whole
directories of files from one format to another. If anyone would like to
know how to do this, please let me know.

Good luck and get back if you run into difficulties.

Best wishes.

Then again, nothing I've done has yet required them, so I haven't looked all

I'd appreciate any suggestions here.

Re: splitting a large wave file into smaller files

2004-09-22 Thread Kevin Lloyd
If you're wanting to split MP3 files, you could use MP3CLIP to do this.

MP3CLIP is freeware and is relatively straightforward to use.

I've pasted some notes below that some may find helpful.

Using MP3CLIP to split an MP3 file

1. Start the track you wish to split in Winamp
2. Pause the track at the point you would like to split the file by pressing
C
3. Start MP3CLIP
4. Tab to the load button and press enter to open the source file dialogue
5. Use the combo boxes to locate the MP3 file you wish to split in the same
way you'd locate a document in Microsoft Word for example
6. Tab to the open button and press enter; the source file is now loaded
7. You will now be returned back to the main dialogue; tab to the set button
and press enter to open the dialogue
8. Enter the file name you would like the resulting files to be prefixed
with. For example, if you enter the name Fred then the file before the
split will be called Fred0 and the file following the split will be called
Fred1
9. Press enter to confirm the file names you chose
10. You will again be returned back to the main dialogue
11. Tab to the grab winamp time button and press enter
12. Now tab until you reach the add time button; press enter to add the time
that's just been grabbed from winamp
13. Tab to the start button and press enter
14. Press enter to start the split process
15. In a few seconds time you will have two files split from the original
file based on the pause you set in winamp

Hi again Larry.

GoldWave seems to run straight off the shelf, though there are scripts
available and they are free. They were created by Jim Bauer and you can
download them from the following address.
http://jbauer.port5.com/

If you experience difficulty setting them up, please contact me. Get in
touch when you are ready to start eh?

Hi Andy. I would sure appreciate the help here. I'm running Goldwave 5.08
and I don't have scripts. If they're available I haven't yet found them.
Then again, nothing I've done has yet required them, so I haven't looked
all
that hard. I'm running both Jaws 5.1 and the latest version of
WindowEyes.
 I'd appreciate any suggestions here.

 Thanks,

 Larry

If you're wanting to split MP3 files, you could use MP3CLIP to do this.
MP3CLIP is freeware and is relatively straightforward to use.
I've pasted some notes below that some may find helpful.
Using MP3CLIP to split an MP3 file
1. Start the track you wish to split in Winamp
2. Pause the track at the point you would like to split the file by
pressing
C
3. Start MP3CLIP
4. Tab to the load button and press enter to open the source file dialogue
5. Use the combo boxes to locate the MP3 file you wish to split in the
same
way you'd locate a document in Microsoft Word for example
6. Tab to the open button and press enter; the source file is now loaded
7. You will now be returned back to the main dialogue; tab to the set
button
and press enter to open the dialogue
12. Now tab until you reach the add time button; press enter to add the
time
that's just been grabbed from winamp
13. Tab to the start button and press enter
14. Press enter to start the split process
15. In a few seconds time you will have two files split from the original
file based on the pause you set in winamp

Hi Larry,

I use a program called cdwave for this purpose. It's reasonably accessable,
and allows either manual or auto split. You can also convert the split
files to mp3 in addition to standard wav.

You'll find more info at

MP3DirectCut can do that. It's free.

2004-07-27 Thread Robert Prahin
Instead of splitting the file, e-mail it using:
http://s11.yousendit.com
You can upload files up to 1 GB and the recipient receives a link to
download the file. Works very well.

Hi,

Try File Splitter Deluxe.
I found it very useful. You can download the shareware version from:

http://www.nettrials.com/file-splitter-deluxe/split.exe

This is the direct link.

Hi Andrea,
Why do you need software for extracting mp3 files?
I simply copy paste them from the cd into my folder.
Thanks,

Do a search on Google for MP3Extractor. It will be as a self-executable
file
 Mp3Extractor.exe.
If you can't locate, drop me a line off list and I'll attach. It is
 freeware.

Re: splitting tracks with mp3 direct cut

2004-05-15 Thread Michael Lang
Joe, I haven't done this myself, but I found a function called Save
split in the file menu. In the manual, they talk of split file, but I
haven't found a menu item with that name. Perhaps, it only is shown,
when there are selections. I'd first try the save split function of the
file menu.
