Re: [PD] iPhone control

2009-09-14 Thread Koray Tahiroglu

hi,

I used mrmr earlier (http://poly.share.dj/projects/#mrmr http://poly.share.dj/wiki/index.php/Mrmr
they are both down at the moment I don't know why) and did some
test runs for the system that I have been developing. It is an open
source project that gives you touch screen and accelerometer control
data through OSC. It allows you to design your control interface on
iPod Touch or iPhone and only allows one way OSC data transfer. You
can also receive touch screen and accelerometer control data with a
very simple rjdj scene through netsend/receive objects, but there are
some problems with touch screen control data, sometimes it is not as
accurate as mrmr or others. rjdj doesn't work with 1st generation iPod
Touch. I would suggest to check mrmr, later on you will end up
developing a custom application based on your project/application
needs, thats what I am working on whenever I have time for that :)

Yo Jerome - in that case I can unequivocally recommend TouchOSC. In
the last month or two he released a GUI editor you can use to build
any kind of control arrangement you like, and even before that I
always felt it had the best controls of the bunch. I've used it for
some live stuff and it was wonderful (it has a cool undocumented
feature that you can grab a control on one screen, switch tabs and
keep controlling the first control while grabbing a second control on
the new tab with another finger... erm, try it out, maybe you'll get
what I mean : ))

http://hexler.net/software/touchosc

There's also the very interesting Fantastick, which is essentially
infinitely flexible, giving you direct draw access to the screen (and
even some OpenGL) from Pd and direct multitouch access from Pd. I've
played with that and it's very cool, but the visual responsiveness of
course isn't quite as good as TouchOSC 'cuz of the round trip to get
new drawing commands (and it's obviously a lot more labor).
http://pinktwins.com/fantastick/

Both options have accelerometer support.

Best
Luke

Jerome,
The piece I performed at PdCon09 used TouchOSC (on my iPhone) to
trigger samples and FX settings in Pd. TouchOSC worked very well.
There were no latency issues. The piece was called Kruezspiel-remix.
If you want to see the patch, just let me know.

Re: [PD] iPhone control

2009-09-12 Thread Loic Kessous

:-) he is probably right for most of the cases.

But if you intended to do some intensive sound processing, or use a
multi input/output sound card,
... or use pd with some intensive video, or in collaboration with
other another software on the same computer (with localhost
communication)

or whatever else I didn't think about...

Then, you may be interested with other solutions as:
 OSCulator, http://www.osculator.net

Actually, I don't use it with an iPhone (I don't have one...) but with
a wiimote (even if there are some tools as externals for pd that can
also do this job but I found it stable convenient for the user
interface, visualizing the signals , battery monitoring etc...)

Else, maybe you can run pd on the iphone and send data with OSC to
another computer...

Re: [PD] iPhone control

2009-09-11 Thread Andrew Turley
I've used the various OSC controllers (MRMR, OSCemote, TouchOSC) and
I've written some custom web apps to control things (I have some posts
over at www.pillowsopher.com/blog). The OSC stuff is faster (more
responsive and less latency) than the web stuff, but I liked the
degree of control the web apps gave me. OSCemote is a nice compromise
because you can create a UI using HTML and JavaScript.
