Well, it dissolves whatever-it-is well, but it keeps coming off, like tar!

This stuff acted like acetone or MEK! I checked the label three times,

Someone answered me, and I inadvertently tossed the message out, but essentially
they said it probably WAS foam in that channel.

With MY poor ol' eyes, I didn't even know there WAS a channel!

So, I got out my flip-down magnifier glasses, and sure enough, I was dissolving
whatever was in the foam, which kept coming off on the Q-tips!

I've let it 'dry' overnight and will clean up and reassemble tomorrow.
Actually, the foam strip seems to have survived my ministrations, in spite of
inept intentions, and if it's still a little bouncy when daylight comes, I'll
just reassemble the back on it!

Ya know, I need a set of magnifying lenses that fit on my regular glasses. I
think jewelers have them...

Anyhow, mystery solved. Thanks for the help.

I've never replaced mirror box seals, but seals on the back are pretty
easy to do.

I got some foam from this fellow on eekbay
http://myworld.ebay.com.au/interslice/

The little bamboo tool is good for cleaning out the old gunk, with a
little alcohol help (naturally). The new foam just packs into the
grooves, or has a self-adhesive backing for the door areas. Saved the
lives of two Fuji 645s and a Mamiya TLR

GESO: Red Bull Air Race - Perth 2008

2008-11-04 Thread David Savage
G'day All.

Well the season is now over the winner has been crowned.

I have no idea who the winner is, but I did have fun shooting the
final race of the season :-)

Here is a gallery of 16 of my better Pentax shots from the day:

http://www.amnet.net.au/~savage/GESO/GESO_017/index.html

For all but the first shot I was using the FA* 300mm f4.5 (with
without the 1.7x AF adapter). The first shot was using the DA* 16-50mm
f2.8.

Any all comments welcome.

Cheers,

Dave

PS, I'll put up a gallery of Nikon shots later in the week for those interested.

Some nice, very sharp, beautifully exposed shots there, David.

Makes my Blue angels shots pale by comparison.

Remember that who you vote for will affect not only your country, but
 the rest of the world.

I voted by mail a few weeks ago, but I've been out rallying a lot the
last two weeks here in California.

I only hope my fellow Californians will vote with their conscience and
not their religion on certain issues. In the end, though, I'm just
really happy at the record turnouts we've been having all across the
country.

I got some foam from this fellow on eekbay

The little bamboo tool is good for cleaning out the old gunk, with a
little alcohol help (naturally). The new foam just packs into the
grooves, or has a self-adhesive backing for the door areas. Saved the
lives of two Fuji 645s and a Mamiya TLR

I bought a light seals kit from the seller Derby suggests (interslice).
It comes with clear instructions, and you can download some
camera-specific instructions from his web site.
I am not a handyman at all, but I could replace the light seals and the
foam in the mirror chamber of my two MX bodies with no problems
whatsoever. A kit is enough to change the light seals in at least 4 or 5
bodies, in my experience.

With another steel boom in the dimensions that we've just had more than

operation again. The particular conditions at this site (25 km between
the blast furnaces and the associated steel mill) might well lead
Arcelor to stop all steelmaking in the Liège basin, just as initially
 planned for 2009.

Pity really. This used to be one of the more accessible plants.

When I was a kid, there were two places I passed by that made me feel
both awe and fear; one was high-steel construction projects
(skyscrapers and bridges), the other was factories, especially
heavy-manufacturing industries and steel mills.

I had visions of men toiling in conditions that made Hell look
comfortable. Men with bulging biceps carrying huge ladles of molten
steel, or guiding giant overhead cauldrons of super-heated material.
There was something heroic about what I could see from peering into
such places from the safety of the street. The workers were dwarfed
by the huge menacing equipment around them.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like to work in there.

Even more than your other images, this photo brings those childhood
feelings and emotions back. Looking into the mill it's as if I'm
looking into Hades itself.

This is a great photo!

Just put up the gallery from my San Francisco trip a month ago. Sorry,
it's all Nikon gear except for the crappy waterproof Oly I use for
 kayaking. :)

I just got a new Wacom tablet and I used it and the trial version of
Lightroom 2 (along with PS) to edit this batch. They both made
processing a lot easier and more fun.

I'd actually love to hear opinions on this photo:

I like the composition but I can't decide if it's too backlit to be a
 successful shot.

 Thanks,
 Amita

Very nice, i like it a lot.

The swirls in the rock make it look very wave like.

Good angle.
