RE: Lightroom interruptus

2010-05-27 Thread Bob W

Just a suggestion - rather than trying to complete the
catalog import, maybe try the following steps:
 a. copy the remaining image files to where you want them to
be. (via OS, not LR) b. In LR, import from disc.
 c. Then import from catalog (or catalogue depending on your
flavour of LR), but choose to not reimport any images.

I.e., split the copy, import-images-into-catalog, and
 catalog-info-import into three steps.

yes, I think that's what I'm going to have to do. I can't see Adobe's
reasoning behind the way it works at the moment - I suspect someone's got
their analysis wrong.

RE: Lightroom interruptus

2010-05-27 Thread Bob W
yes no. Yes in as much as I've given up with direct
 ethernet. No in
that Lightroom won't play ball after interrupting the
 import. Now when
I try to import the remainder of the catalogue it doesn't
 give me the
choice of moving the files to a new location - it insists
 that they remain in situ.

Lovely, can you start from scratch again after the copius interruptus?

I just love well behaved software.

I think it's probably behaving to spec, but the spec is wrong.

BTW, I thought of you yesterday at lunch. I was chatting with a bicyclist from

 Yeah we missed you.

 Important things on the list:

 1. Almost no one on the list will ever buy a Leica ever ever again, if
 not never.

 2. One of our members is apparently a dishonest, deceptive, lying
bastard because he returned a camera that had a drink spilled upon it.
The store clerk didn't ask why it didn't work and he didn't offer an
explanation, and they gave him a new camera.  It really doesn't matter
in the end because it was a Canon.

 3. I also apparently have no scruples, and should be viewed with
suspicion because I don't view that as being really dishonest, it was
more or less allowing the system to work in his favor, and besides I
don't think the camera should have failed that easily to begin with.

 4. Some stinking image scraper wants to steal all our pretty pictures.

 Welcome, home!

Actually a pretty good summary, albeit somewhat sarcastic - I am
wondering if perhaps Tom shouldn't write the Digest from now on =)

Yes.

Very much agreed. The only kind I do business with are those who give
me the business specifically to help me save face (in their
perception, I don't mind losing it from time to time, it seems to grow
back pretty nicely)

PESO: Snoopy Flies Again

2010-05-27 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
I live near a small airport (Solberg) in New Jersey that often hosts
blimps on their way to Giants Stadium or other events in the New York
City area. We had three on Saturday, two very close together.

It looks like Snoopy is up in the air again, but he seems to have lost
his Sopwith Camel, so he took off on the MetLife blimp:

The Red Baron was no where to be found, so Snoopy chased the MetLife blimp:

Yes, they are. I use the Fong Lumisphere for weddings and events,
which I rarely shoot, and automobile interiors, which I frequently
shoot. It's excellent when working anywhere with a reasonably low,
light colored ceiling. It can also be flipped and used like a mini
softbox when the ceiling doesn't cooperate. Good tool.

Quite entertaining... and not a bad idea actually.

Other than the fact that you can't reformat your memory card without
erasing the pics. Reloading them every time you format the card would
seem like more trouble than it's worth.

it wouldn't be much effort to photograph a business card after each
reformat, if you were really that worried about losing the camera.

I have a sticker on the bottom of my camera (and my flash) with my name and
cell number on it.

Helps keep honest people honest but it sure wouldn't keep someone from
stealing the gear and removing the sticker.

Re: Re: What to charge to photograph a party?

2010-05-27 Thread Jens
I charge 400 Dkr/hour - eq. to 66 USD/hour, when working (semi)professionally.
For both photographing and editing. In fact I almost double my noramal hourly
salery, because I use my own equipmenet (camera eq., computer etc.) as well as
my private car. The photographers I know tell me it's not enough. To actually
run a business, I'd have to charge (under Danish conditions) at least 100
USD/hour. I guess it's also a question of guessing how much they want to spend,
and then work accordingly.

Congratulations on your 26th anniversary.  You must have a very
 patient and forgiving wife.
On Saturday we will celebrate our 45th anniversary.  That fulfills the
requirements for my wife to be canonized.

At what anniversary did/will she get nikonized, pray?
