whats different about it vs previous pentax dslrs?

With previous models I had to press a button so that the ss would be
selected.
It's like the camera recognizes that the arm is there. Doesn't do anything
with it,
but it is half-way. At least that's my impression.

You should still have to press the green button at any ap except wide open. And
you have to select a menu option that enables setting an aperture manually. If
you're not doing that, you're just getting lucky:-).

Just what it says. You have to subscribe to their deals e-news letter,
but they give you a personal code to create a 8x8 14 page photo
book. I guess I'll try it out, it doesn't look like it will tax my
computer or photographic skills particularly. Now all I have to do is
see if I can come up with 14 images I actually might want published.

Urgent slide show help needed

2013-06-11 Thread Rick Womer
Hi folks,

I've been below periscope depth most of the last month, largely because our
son's wedding is Saturday.

For the rehearsal dinner Friday, I've gathered 150 jpgs of him and his fiancee
through the years, which I'd like to have running as a continuous looping slide
show.  The venue has a 1080P projector with a DVD player attached, though one
can also attach one's computer.

The guy at the venue recommended transferring the pix to iMovie and burning it
to a DVD.  I tried that, but the tops and bottoms of portrait-oriented pix got
cut off.  Time is short, so I can't do anything elaborate.

So, the questions are:
- is there another way to project from a DVD?
- If not, and we have to take a laptop along, would you recommend projecting
from Lightroom, iPhoto, or something else?
- Is there an advantage to a pdf slide show?  What software would you use to
project it?

Thanks!

If you're using some flavor of Windows Laptop, Irfanview will let you
create an slide show in an windows EXE file. You can specify how it
will fit on the display, say full width of full height and pick a
background color, black usually works well, even add music, though I
think I'd kill something if a continuously looping slideshow played

I agree about he head, Dan. I had the 200mm prime on and couldn't zoom out. Was
trying to get the head and the ball in the frame and cut a a bit of both out.

In a perfect world I would have had all of his head in there. Oh well... ;-)

Thanks so much for the comment. Thanks to Dave and Bruce as well and thanks to
those who looked.

Cheers,
frank

Great expression and strong portrait, Frank. Somehow, I want to see
the top of his head, though.

Watched for about fifteen minutes and my camera kept being drawn to this old

Thanks, Bruce.

It was indeed at Humber. South field. There was a Rugby match at the east field
but the backgrounds were horrible: parked cars and school buildings. Took
photos there as well but no one will see them. ;-)

At least the south field has trees on three sides.

Glad you liked. Appreciate the comment.

 Hi folks,

I've been below periscope depth most of the last month, largely because
 our son's wedding is Saturday.

For the rehearsal dinner Friday, I've gathered 150 jpgs of him and his
fiancee through the years, which I'd like to have running as a continuous
looping slide show.  The venue has a 1080P projector with a DVD player
attached, though one can also attach one's computer.

The guy at the venue recommended transferring the pix to iMovie and
burning it to a DVD.  I tried that, but the tops and bottoms of
portrait-oriented pix got cut off.  Time is short, so I can't do anything
 elaborate.

 So, the questions are:
 - is there another way to project from a DVD?
 - If not, and we have to take a laptop along, would you recommend
projecting from Lightroom, iPhoto, or something else?
 - Is there an advantage to a pdf slide show?  What software would you use
 to project it?

 Thanks!

 Rick

One of these days, I'm at least going to get close enough to the GFM NPW

won't have to leave Atlanta to hear the snoring.
