Thanks, everyone, for the kind remarks! Maybe I will get my act together this year for the book, after all ... :) This is what I found myself doing while I should have been taking care of real work ... It's been a while since I was just able to play with the camera. Y'know, I find I really like photography, I should do it more often! lol. I will say, I enjoy using the focus peaking on the K-01 and zooming in live view, makes it much easier to really nail focus. Now I kinda wish I had one of those 200mm macros to get in closer. I don't know how far mallards normally migrate. All I know is these guys decided to winter here, which may not have been a wise choice. I know there are ducks such a buffleheads and wigeons that do winter here and fly north for the summer. The dangers of cycling are displayed well, there is a lot of traffic and the tram tracks are barely visible. I slipped on them once on foot. I like the contrast of the lone rider against lots of cars. Definitely a keeper! GESO 2014 - 002-019 - GDG
On the morning of Christmas Eve 2013, I met up with a couple of friends just after sunrise to photograph in the Stanford University Quad. We wandered the Quad area for an hour and some. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gdgphoto/11869521145/ It was a free-form photo shoot without a project in mind, basically enjoying the light and looking at what was there in a small area around the Quad. I made 230 some exposures ... I've distilled that down to eighteen that I feel work together as a set. Over the years, we have been most grateful for neighbors who share our philosophy that more than a few snowblowers per block is excessive. We have an arrangement with the family next door, in which we keep the gas tanks filled, and do the simple repairs to keep it running... and we help ourselves to the machine in their garage when the snow gets too deep heavy to sweep away. Yeah I know it's better than texting while driving but you'd think we could learn to ignore a phone for a couple of minutes. It's not like I'll get any better photos. Well, coming from a K20D to the K3, I'm certainly seeing better photos with the few I've captured so far. Both in image quality and the ability to capture better images in low light. PESO: Calorifier Room
A few weeks ago they held an open day at Hillmorton Hospital which occupies part of the site formerly known as Sunnyside Hospital. Sunnyside was opened as a mental asylum in 1863 and closed in 1999. The main building was demolished but many of the more modern outbuildings remain and are still in use today. One of my wife's ancestors spent a little time in the asylum so we went to take a look at the historical display. On the way back to our car I noticed this sign. http://gallery.multi.net.nz/photo/721/#peso I took the photo using my cellphone and the colours were a bit wonky so I converted to BW. People in SA have become very passive towards that sort of thing. The culture of the masses takes precedence. The police won't act and private litigation is costly, time consuming very unpleasant.
