As a coffee snob who hand grinds my own beans every morning in a
Zassenhaus manual coffee grinder (I also do home coffee roasting and
have about 20 lbs of green coffee beans in the house at the moment) I

Instant coffee was always the worst part of visiting my parents, but
they have since "graduated" to buying ground coffee which is at least
drinkable.

I don't think we are terribly far away from seeing used 645D bodies
selling for under $2K. It is possible that the FF Pentax's actual
introduction may even exert a little upward pressure back on the 645D,
depending upon it's price and specs: One might be deciding between the
latest Pentax technology K-1 at 36 or 42 MP for $2895 vs the 40MP 645D
for a chunk less.

If this happens, the price progression would be:
Flagship APS-C: K-3 II
2nd Generation 645D
Full frame: K-1
Medium format 1st generation: 645z

Re: FF exerting downward price pressure on the 645D?

2016-01-13 Thread P.J. Alling
I really think that the downward price pressure on the 645D is more
attributable to the 645z and Canon's mega monster pixel 5D variants than
the promise of a Pentax K-FF. Medium format is a market segment of it's
own.

Fact is, that the Canon 5Ds is really a medium format substitute for
photographers who've never shot medium format film, and subsequently
don't know what medium format is good for, (besides resolution), and
Canon shooters...

Sure there are cameras using Sony's 42mp 36x24mm but really the same
thing applies. If you know what medium format is good for there is no
substitute. If all you need are megapixels...

Finally, really how much could Ricoh sell the 645D for since the 645z
sells for about 6K which is less than some FF DSLRs and FF Mirrorless
cameras sell for.

Beautiful, and unusual. I like it a lot.

For me, it works better rotated 90 degrees clockwise, though.

FF exerting downward price pressure on the 645D?

2016-01-13 Thread Darren Addy
I find the price trend on the 645D to be interesting (if my empty
pocketbook says I'm not quite tempted yet). It seems that there are
more 645D on the market recently, and I it occurs to me that some are
probably upgrading to the 645z and some are possibly selling in
anticipation of getting the Pentax FF (or moving to some other FF
system). We can't discount the fact that as time moves on the 645D
becomes older and older technology, which also accounts for some of
the price slide.

Ditto - I got my invite yesterday and plugged in my website address -
found lots of hits but none that are probably worth following up too
seriously. There are a few commercial sites and one non-profit that has
used photos that are completely inappropriate for the sort of work they

Yeah, kind of. The sock is like a white fabric shower cap that slips
over the beauty dish. The light spread goes from a narrow 45 degrees
to about 130 degrees. But it's still fairly specular because the dish
is silver. And the light is most intense in the center with strong
circular falloff.

I aimed it at the subject's head and set it about a stop or so less
than the strips. Gives a nice shine to her shoulders in this specific
shot, but more importantly when Rachel is facing us the beauty dish
fills in shadows on her face and avoids that intense, tough-guy look
that you get from split lighting that looks okay with men but is very
unflattering on women.

You have to have a "smart" phone to hear them. At least they're just

If you don't want to hear them don't "tap, type or scan".

Thanks Christina

I just discovered, that it's only one of my two 64 GB Lexar cards,
that's making trouble!?

And only in the JPEG compartment (Number 2).
I guess one card is faulty. I tried to send it back, but there was just
too much paperwork involved...

I guess I'l just mark it "DNG-only"

Funny enough ther both work flawlessly in my SONY ILCE 6000.
But I got the pair for my K-3 :-(

Hi guys
I just wanted to let you know:
A member of my family owns a couples of photo shops. He adviced me to
buy Lexar cards. The reason was that my SanDisk Cards often brakes.

So, I bought two Lexar Cards: Lexar Professional SD XC II s 150MB/s 64GB.

They gave me repeating error messages.
I noticed that the white slide lock is very bright and allmost transparent.
I guessed the lock is working with a light mechanism??
So, I took a permanent speed marker and painted the sliding lockers dark
blue (should perhaps have been black..).
Now I don't get error messages anymore.

I agree. KEH seems to be losing relevance, at least for Pentax stuff.
The new site seems to lump all Pentax mount stuff together, which is
terrible. They don't even have a category for m42/screwmount on the
new site. The screwmount page is still there on the old "Classic Site"
link.

If you want to keep using them, it might pay to bookmark those old
category pages. They should continue to work, as long as they remain
up, since those pages are almost certainly a database-driven. ( A new
lens added to inventory should show up automatically in the correct
mount's category page).

At least Newton has a proper memorial in Westminster Abby. When we

Perhaps it is my old physics training coming out, but when I saw the

perfect title for the image, because of the various connotations
"Inclined" has relative both to the model and to the viewer (and I
 presume the photographer).

There are levels of meaning [pun intended] in the word inclined, which
also brings to mind "recline," "decline" and "supine." It is your

not the one that occurred to me.

I like the 8mm shot. Wouldn't be right for a family reunion or wedding, but
it's perfect for a band pic. Fun and off kilter works here.
