Re: FF exerting downward price pressure on the 645D?
I really think that the downward price pressure on the 645D is more attributable to the 645z and Canon's mega monster pixel 5D variants than the promise of a Pentax K-FF. Medium format is a market segment of it's own. Fact is, that the Canon 5Ds is really a medium format substitute for photographers who've never shot medium format film, and subsequently don't know what medium format is good for, (besides resolution), and Canon shooters... Sure there are cameras using Sony's 42mp 36x24mm but really the same thing applies. If you know what medium format is good for there is no substitute. If all you need are megapixels... Finally, really how much could Ricoh sell the 645D for since the 645z sells for about 6K which is less than some FF DSLRs and FF Mirrorless cameras sell for. We can't discount the fact that as time moves on the 645D becomes older and older technology, which also accounts for some of the price slide. I don't think we are terribly far away from seeing used 645D bodies selling for under $2K. It is possible that the FF Pentax's actual introduction may even exert a little upward pressure back on the 645D, depending upon it's price and specs: One might be deciding between the latest Pentax technology K-1 at 36 or 42 MP for $2895 vs the 40MP 645D for a chunk less. If this happens, the price progression would be: Flagship APS-C: K-3 II 2nd Generation 645D Full frame: K-1 Medium format 1st generation: 645z Thoughts? -- Life is too short to put up with bad bokeh. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The sock is like a white fabric shower cap that slips over the beauty dish. The light spread goes from a narrow 45 degrees to about 130 degrees. But it's still fairly specular because the dish is silver. And the light is most intense in the center with strong circular falloff. I aimed it at the subject's head and set it about a stop or so less than the strips. Gives a nice shine to her shoulders in this specific shot, but more importantly when Rachel is facing us the beauty dish fills in shadows on her face and avoids that intense, tough-guy look that you get from split lighting that looks okay with men but is very unflattering on women. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
