There is a codec available from Adobe that will make DNGs viewable as

Hi!

I haven't posted many photos in the past two weeks. Part of the reason is
that I've had a lot going on, not least of which was that my car was
rear-ended and a total loss. It's been replaced with a six years newer model
of the same thing.

The light was nice this morning, so I pulled out the camera and put the new
car into the church parking lot for some beauty snaps right about dawn.

OT be careful installing OSX Sierra, there may be some issues with synchronizing desktops

2016-09-25 Thread Larry Colen

I ran across this article:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/maybe-be-careful-with-osx-sierra

The short form is that if you have multiple desktop devices and try to
synchronize them, bad things might happen. It works great with one
desktop device and multiple IOS devices, but multiple desktops, maybe
not so much. Do some research before installing.

I use an encrypted text file - actually two encrypted text files. The
first lists usernames and/or email addresses and has references to line
numbers in the second where the passwords are listed. This way I only
need to remember the two (different) passwords that decrypt the text
files. In practice, I can usually remember important passwords so I
rarely need to resort to the text files.

Yep. That works as long as you don't use the same or similar passwords
on important sites. Also, when they ask for, say, your mother's maiden
name, give them a unique word that *isn't* your mother's maiden name
(just keep track of what you tell each site). The same goes for
"favorite pet", "first school", etc.

Well, yes, except it's still fraud to threaten someone with a copyright
infringement action, when a you don't own the copyright, and don't
actually represent the owner of the copyright, and even worse when said
image is in the public domain and you cannot own the copyright. Which
Getty has been caught doing. Which was what John and I were
discussing. For the earlier part of the thread your statement is indeed
correct, unless Getty is claiming copyright on something they don't own.
You should have replied to an earlier post to avoid confusion.

their liability under law is far higher. The only thing you are doing now

You'd be amazed how many people don't. (Wait. No, you wouldn't.)

You'd also be amazed how many people use the same password on multiple

There are a lot of times where it really doesn't much matter if one has
the same password across multiple sites. Photograph chatrooms such as
dpreview and pentax forums are two such examples. Who the hell cares if
they get hacked on those sites?

One trick that a lot of people do is to use a two part password. Have
one strong password that you can remember, for example @vo6022 then have
something based on the domain, maybe the first letters of the domain and
extension with a character between them, pdml.net could become p*n

So, your password for pdml.net would be @vo6022p*n and your password for
wellsfargo would be @vo6022w*c

Someone who gets your password for multiple sites would be able to
figure it out, but if someone gets your password on yahoo, they wouldn't
then be successful if their script tried the same account and password
on google.

Thanks again!

No one was hurt, thankfully ... Worst I got was a little skin lost on my shin
from the antisubmarine bumper under the driver's dash. It's almost healed
completely now. The other driver acknowledged it was entirely her fault on the
spot, and State Farm Insurance has issued a fair compensation for the wreck.

The new one is a very different driving experience from the old one. That
little six makes a glorious high-rpm ripping sound as it winds up.

Re: Windows 10 Anniversary and DNG files

2016-09-25 Thread P.J. Alling
I've been viewing DNG thumbnails using Windows 7 and Windows XP for
years. They have also visible in Windows Photo view in Explorer. They
were also visible in Windows 2000, (not talking about WinME), but that
required downloading a third party codec. The fact that it took this
long to support a common format, that was previously supported, is a
great argument to not be an early adopter.

Is this what they call groundbreaking technical progress or did I miss

I'm a little late on this but it's probably worth mentioning: Yahoo IS
Flickr! If you have a Flickr account you should change its password
immediately.

Windows 10 Anniversary and DNG files

2016-09-25 Thread Henk Terhell
After this week's anniversary update of my Windows 10 installation I now
discover that DNG files are thumbnailed in the Windows Explorer and can
also be viewed by Windows Photo Gallery.

This is much easier than having first to open Lightroom or FS viewer.
Is this what they call groundbreaking technical progress or did I miss
something?
