I found the same with my Minolta Multi Pro. I suspect it offloads a lot of
processing to the computer. I always scan with oversampling so that's going to
take the lion's share of the scan time.

It used to take me about an hour to touch-up a photo that contained a lot of
sky. My scanner does support dust & scratch removal but I bought an accessory
called the Scanhancer which helps to smooth grain at the expense of not being
able to use the dust/scratch removal (it's basically a plastic diffuser). It
also made the scanning a bit slower as I had to increase the exposure setting.

A few years back I went through and scanned all the rest of my 6x7 slides
thinking I'd get around to processing them eventually. Still have the raw
files :) I really should scan my 35mm stuff but just don't have the time right
now.

Cheers,
Dave

I have one of these, for use with the 67II, en my older film-era 35mm stuff.

Have not touched any of them in several years though, partly because at
some point there was no Nikon driver anymore for macOS
(Mac OSx at that time, I think it 64-bit only from then on)

What are you using to run the scanner, the Nikkon Software, or vuescan perhaps?
And is that on Windows or Mac ?

Thanks, Rick

I knew I recognized that tree!

We stay at the Kamaole Sands, just across the street from Kamaole Beach
Park III. Keawakapu Beach, just north of Wailea, stretching from Wailea to
the Five Palms Restaurant, is our favorite beach, especially for walking..
We often walk the oceanfront paths in Wailea and the beach at Keawakapu,
then the path leading to the Kihei Boat Ramp and Kam III.

Where did (do) you stay on Maui?

Here's a 100% crop from a tiny bit of the center:

Other notes:

This scanner is friggin' HUGE. Around double the size (volume) of my
previous medium format scanner the Minolta Scan Multi. I thought it
might be a little bigger than the Minolta but never imagined anything
like this. Amazing.

High resolution scans take a looong time. No big surprise, I suppose.
The IEEE 1394 interface is pointless, from a speed standpoint: The
bottleneck as far as scanning speed is concerned is *not* the transfer
of data from the scanner to the computer! (I believe they went with
plain old USB2 for the follow-up model, the LS 9000.)

The IR dust & scratch removal is awesome. I keep it switched on but at
its minimum setting and it works brilliantly. I can't imagine the time
it would take to manually touch up dust spots on a 97MP scan.

More later.

Yes, Ferruginous you attached

The example in my field guide

I've seen them going for far more than that. In fact, I've seen the
film carriers alone listed for $800! (No scanner included.) Yeah,
that's a bit unrealistic, but 1200 bucks for the scanner in excellent
condition with carriers for 35mm negs, 35mm slides and 120 is a great
deal.

But I checked out the seller and found he's been on eBay for a long
time, sold just a few items and all of them a photography-related. He
answered questions and clearly knew what he was talking about.

So I went for it. It arrived today and I'm impressed so far. Here's my
