Re: OT - heads-up: good deal on a budget IPS monitor

2018-11-18 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Sorry for being noisy:
At Walmart, new users can save extra $10 by entering the discount code:
ELLEN10.

Apparently, the same (but may be not exactly the same [*]) monitor is on sale
at Walmart for the same $119:

[*] From what I've heard before, - some manufacturers sell slightly different
modifications of the product through Walmart. Presumably that "special" batch
might be of a lower quality.

Actually, Best Buy also has the same sale price ($119):
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-se2717hr-27-ips-led-fhd-freesync-monitor-piano-black/5996200.p?skuId=5996200

I see that this model is discontinued at B, so, I suspect it might be at
the end of its life-cycle, and that's the reason for such a deep sale.

BTW, if you are curious, from what I've read SE2717HR comes with HDMI
cable, while SE2717H comes with a VGA cable, but the rest is the same.

HTH,

Igor

Just a heads-up in case someone is looking for an inexpensive IPS monitor.
(There have been a few people asking on PDML not that long ago.)
Dell 27" HD LCD MOnitor, SE2717H is on sale for $119 at Office Depot:
https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/196655/Dell-27-HD-LCD-Monitor-SE2717H/?cm_mmc=Affiliates-_-CJ-_-1122587-_-11263938

I think it's the same prices at OfficeMax, which is essentially the same
chain now.

This is a budget, but seemingly reasonable quality IPS monitor with Full-HD
resolution (1920x1080).

(I haven't use it myself.)
Its gamut almost covers SRGB, - you can see a nice review of it
on TomsHardware:
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-se2717h-27-inch-ips-freesync-gaming-monitor,4859-4.html
According to that review, - one of the positive things is that you get an
excellent out-of-box color accuracy. (This might be important for those who
are not using screen calibrators.)

It does not have too many options for connectors, only HDMI and VGA,
so if your computer uses DisplayPort, you'd need some adapters...

This monitor is in the category of gaming ones. I suspect that it's there
because it has a relatively fast (for IPS) response time. But it seems
rather suitable for general needs as well as photography (if you don't need
wider gamut).

Cheers,

Igor
