Re: Rejoined PDML

2021-03-14 Thread Rick Womer
Welcome back Alastair!

I went from the istD to the K-10D to the K-7 and then to the K-5 (which I’m
still using almost 10 years later).

The K-5 has a higher-resolution sensor with =much= better low-light performance
than the K-7; and the colors are almost as good as those of the K-10.

My wife has a K-70, and IMHO the user interface is not nearly as good as any of
the others.

Cheers,

Rick

RE: Renewing editing software

2021-03-14 Thread jcoyle
I've been using CC since it came out, and have absolutely no issues with
performance. I have 8G of RAM on a Windows 10
pro 640 bit system and the inbuilt Intel UHD graphics adapter. I might get an
improvement in redraw performance with a
gaming card, but to me it is not worth the expense (or the fact that I am using
an HP Prodesk mini PC probably makes it
impossible!)
I've never liked Lightroom, so I'll avoid any further comment on that software.
I manage my images through my file
structure, which works for me.
I would say that I normally open Bridge first, to find the images I want to
work with, and this integrates well with PS.
I like too the fact that you can effectively include some of the facilities
from the RAW image processing module into
PS, so you can apply some pretty neat adjustments even to original jpegs.

I'm on CC for a while. My main use is Lightroom Classic not Lightroom.
You might enjoy the sync functions of Lightroom Classic to Lightroom,
lightroom Web and the Apps. If you do, you probably will also want to
sync smart collections. That needs some tweaking.
Prepare yourself to start searching for a cheap gamers GPU card which
speeds up lightroom (2x 3x depends on what you do). And an SSD for the
catalog and previews.

Having read much of Napoleon's memoirs, as dictated to Las Cases and Bertrand,
I feel he would never have been content to rule 10.5 square miles of territory!
As you noted, he spent more time reviewing his campaigns and attempting to
justify his failures, while yearning to get back to France.

In a bit of weird synchronicity the same book was mentioned today on another

The survey at Pentax Fora included the K-70 and no one reported a
failure.  So you're probably safe with a K-70.

the fully articulated screen, which I find useful on my Lumix bridge
camera. It would be very disappointing if Pentax is still putting out
cameras with a known dodgy solenoid.

I'll keep you updated if it appears - I won't be happy.

considering a KP or even a lightly used K-5 II or K-5 IIs.
