I think that you’re running into the reason that people like to shoot at golden or blue hour. The undiffused point source of light from the sun gives hard edges to the shadows and contrasty light. Unfortunately what lends itself to good photos is directional diffuse light. Just a big flat grey sky will give you flat images. In theory, if you could get the animals to pose in the shade, that would help, but it’s hard enough to get wild animals to pose, much less to get them to pose in a place with ideal light. I also think that the clouds really made the sky a lot more interesting. I think that it’s probably just a case of jumping on the opportunity to photograph on days where you have cloudy, but not totally socked in skies. Either that, or just appreciate the chances you do have of seeing animals that most of us only ever see in zoos. Every single one of your photos is better than any I have ever taken of lions, Elephants etc. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Thanks, Larry. Yes, I quite agree. Perhaps I need to look at using a suitable filter on sunny days (camera sun-glasses)? Any ideas? Both are nice. This weeks photo seems to have more of a story, I think that last week’s is a prettier picture. The only technical comment I’d make would be to crop this week’s photo tighter with just a little bit of the near headstone on the left and the trunk on the right to reduce the amount of ground under the three headstones and still keep a 2x3 aspect ratio. For me, they are the story and I’d just keep enough of the others to maintain the frame and context. > > Rick > -- > %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List > To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow > the directions. > -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

GESO: "Nature Drive"
We have had a very unusual spell of cooler weather with light rain - overcast every day for about two weeks. We took a "Nature Drive" to the Sable Dam area in Kruger yesterday. This is about as close as one can get to a nature walk in Kruger. Of course, the bush in now very dense & not really suitable for game viewing. Here are a few images of interest. The descriptions are under the photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wisselstroom/albums/72177720295370533 All with the K5 & HD 55-300. PESO - Red Cedar Revisited
I took another walk through Woodlands Cemetery yesterday afternoon. https://rickwomer.smugmug.com/2021/December-2021/December-2021/i-bJzgGK8/A Here it was last week: https://rickwomer.smugmug.com/2021/December-2021/December-2021/i-8qqGNSq/A The seed pods are gone from the lower branches; probably from the squirrels (which are innumerable). Re: GESO Foam
I probably do. "toxic" and "poisonous" mean causing an actual chemical reaction which is harmful to you. Nausea (which can be caused by a bad smell, or motion, or many other reasons) doesn't qualify. It may be unpleasant to be exposed to the smell (which isn't actually from the methane, but from various other decomposition products, etc., that are typically mixed in), but moving out of the affected area is enough to take care of it. That isn't the case if you are exposed to carbon monoxide from breathing car exhaust fumes, or eat deadly nightshade or yew berries or the wrong sorts of toadstools, or are bitten by a venomous snake or spider - those have persistent effects which often require medical treatment.
