The ones I bought don't show up on their list. I've always had good luck
with Seagates. I'm pretty sure my Drobo has 5 Barracuda drives in it and
they have operated without a hitch for I forget how many years.

Hopefully these ones will give me good service as well.

thanks again

Not being one to spend a lot of time or effort on researching things, I
decided on the Synology DS1522+ disk station and will be filling it with
5 Seagate IronWolf 8tb NAS drives.
I decided I want to replace my Drobo as my main storage because that
company seems to have gone away during covid and as they use a
proprietary encoding, if the box dies, my image files go with it.

Hopefully it will serve me well. All the products seem very well rated.

Thanks Larry for the advice.

Re: Stupid RAID question

2023-02-06 Thread John Sessoms

See if it will do RAID 6.

That gives you TWO stripes of redundancy and it allows for a second disk
failure if one should occur while you're rebuilding the array after a
first disk failure.

That's what I did with my home-built file server.

OK guys and gals, here is your dumbass question of the month.
Yes it's coming early.
I'm looking at RAID enclosures, and am leaning towards Synology, but
haven't settled on which one.

I'm looking at the DiskStation DS1522+ or the DiskStation DS620slim
It looks like either will suit my needs well into the future.
They talk about RAID configurations, and this is where I run out of brains.
I'm thinking RAID 5 would be the configuration I want for maximum
redundancy, but I really know nothing about this.

Any thoughts from the would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

They're nice, but not really to my taste. But that's how "art" works

The black one is 1899 UK pounds (=2121 euro) at Wex London.
The highest price so far.
Funny, the K-1 II has the same price there.
