RE: Scanner question - Minolta Dual Scan III
I have a DS III and find that its ICE works quite well. There are those who say it isn't a real ICE whatever that means, however the end result is quite good. - Bob [Original Message] From: Tony Cogan [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 3/15/2003 12:02:51 PM Subject: Scanner question - Minolta Dual Scan III Hi Has anyone here used the Minolta Scan Dual III? I have only found a couple of reviews for it but it seems to be well-received. Thanks much Tony
Re: Scanner question - Minolta Dual Scan III
I see very little difference between the Nikon and Minolta DS III on slides. The Nikon does seem to show more dirt though. - Bob [Original Message] From: Herb Chong [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 3/15/2003 3:06:58 PM Subject: Re: Scanner question - Minolta Dual Scan III real ICE can tell the difference between dust and black specs in the distance on the slide. E6 and C-41 type films are transparent to infrared while the dust isn't. the infrared scan channel tells the scanner software where there is dust, mildew, or similar obstruction. the image itself is transparent to infrared. Re: Bug in light metering on 5N body???
Use a grey card and standardize on distance, lens. My F-100 does take superior exposures on Velvia over my 5n. Notice the variations he found between one Nikon F100 and another F100 - and this is a much higher-end camera than the ZX-5n. They might be higher end, but they're also Nikon's, so I'm not surprised. :-) Guess that I have a good MZ-5n then... and it seems to like Agfa film. Best wishes, Roland
Re: Comparing digital to film
Its inevitable that digital will take over, if only for convenience. I still think film is superior if one finds a decent processor, but there's the rub :( I sold my oly E-20 and enjoy my Pentax and 6x6. - Original Message - From: Steve Desjardins [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 28, 2003 6:58 AM Subject: Re: Comparing digital to film I was looking through the March Shutterbug and they have clearly declared victory for digital. Most of the articles were about digital equipment/techniques, including one about a photographer who switched from MF to digital. I suppose this is inevitable since digital is new and there's a lot more to talk about (so it's easier to write articles about it) but unless you're doing digital there's not much point in reading it. Re: What is better? Digital Full Frame against 67
Based on those comparisons, I concluded film was best rather than the authors contention. The trouble I see with my digital pics is color. It simply does not capture color as well as film does and this comparison shows that its the same for the Canon. - Original Message - From: RĂ¼diger Neumann [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 25, 2003 5:35 AM Subject: What is better? Re: ScanDual III (was Re: Mac Blat)
Sure, first lets qualify the environment... XP Pro, Pentium 4 @ 2 GHertz 80 GB HD for images. Acanner on a USB 2.0 channel. I have used the HP s-20 original, an early Nikon scanner. I find the software package to be quite stable and can scan into PS or into a file. The software does take a little learning time to master, but nothing real complicated. The scans are quite good (K-64 and E-100S) good depth. I do find the scans a bit softer than the Nikon, but on the other hand, dust doesn't stick out as much... I like the minolta. Got questions? Ask... - Bob - Original Message - From: Dan Scott [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: Dan Scott [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 11, 2003 1:34 PM Subject: ScanDual III (was Re: Mac Blat) On Saturday, January 11, 2003, at 03:04 PM, Bob Zwarick wrote: I scan at the moment using a Dimage Scan Dual III for 35mm and an Epson 2450 for the 6x6 slides. - Bob Hi Bob, Would you care to share your impression on the ScanDual III? For S-20 owners, no more scrathes from the drive mechanism, better color rendition of water blues. And easier to load :) - Original Message - From: Bruce Rubenstein [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 11, 2003 1:46 PM Subject: Re: ScanDual III (was Re: Mac Blat) There are also owners of other scanners that need replacing (HP S20), and are interested. As far as I know the Dimage Scan Dual III can only handle APS full roll. And with an optional feeder. - Bob - Original Message - From: Ryan K.
